Samsung is likely to launch its first Android XR headset soon and here is everything we know about it
Samsung's first Android XR headset might finally be close to its official debut. After months of appearances at different events, leaks and teaser videos, a new report out of South Korea suggests that Samsung will unveil the headset — currently codenamed Project Moohan — on September 29 in its home country. If this report is accurate, the headset will go on sale in South Korea on October 13, with a global rollout expected to follow soon after. Of course, Samsung hasn't confirmed any of this just will be Samsung's first Extended Reality (XR) headset, and it's being developed in partnership with Google. The headset will run Android XR, a version of Android built specifically for mixed-reality devices. Android XR is the result of a joint effort between Samsung and Google, much like their collaboration on recent versions of Wear OS for smartwatches. The new platform is also expected to come with built-in Gemini AI, giving users access to smart tools and contextual information right inside their headset. For example, imagine using Google Maps in a 3D interface or receiving AI-generated assistance while navigating or working in the hood, the headset will be powered by Qualcomm's XR2+ Gen 2 chip, which is reportedly built on Samsung's own 4nm process. This should help deliver smooth performance along with balanced power efficiency, both of which are key for wearable Even though it hasn't launched yet, the headset has been seen in public a few times. Samsung showed off early prototypes earlier this year at MWC 2024 and the Galaxy S25 launch, and is expected to tease it once again during its July Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip for features, the device is said to support both mixed reality and full virtual reality experiences. Samsung is reportedly focusing on making the headset lightweight and comfortable, though specific design details remain unknown. Rumours also hint at a sleek form factor that's more user-friendly than bulkier course, all of this comes as competition in the XR space grows. Apple's Vision Pro has already made the headlines with its high-end approach, but it also raised eyebrows for its price and bulky design. Samsung may be aiming to strike a better balance, offering top-tier performance and a good user experience, but at a more accessible price said, nothing is set in stone until Samsung makes it official. But if the latest reports are accurate, we might not have to wait long to see what Project Moohan is really all tuned to India Today Tech for all the latest on Samsung's upcoming Android XR headset.

Samsung to launch Android XR device to rival Apple Vision Pro in September: Report
Earlier this year, Samsung gave us a glimpse of Project Moohan, its Apple Vision Pro competitor. First teased during the second Galaxy Unpacked event in 2024, the extended reality headset was rumoured to launch sometime at the end of the year. However, Samsung's extended reality headset may hit markets sooner than expected. According to a report by the Korean publication Newspim, the company might launch the upcoming Android XR-powered headset at its very own event on September 9. It also suggests that the headset will be coming to South Korea a month later on October 13, with a global launch planned afterwards. Rumour also has it that Samsung will be showcasing the prototype and playing teaser videos of the Apple Vision Pro competitor at its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which is scheduled to take place in July. Compared to Meta and Apple's offerings, Samsung is reportedly working on fixing some issues associated with the technology, such as weight, battery life and performance. And while not much is known about Project Moohan's hardware except for the fact that it will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chip and run on Android XR. In December last year, Google previewed Android XR – its new'open, unified platform for XR headsets and glasses.' Compared to the Apple Vision Pro and Meta's Quest range of mixed and virtual reality headsets, Google has confirmed that Android XR devices will support existing mobile and tablet apps on the Play Store 'right out of the box.' The tech giant is also building its very own XR version of popular apps like Maps, Photos and YouTube. For example, the Android XR version of Google Chrome will let users browse the internet with multiple windows, which will help enhance the headset's multitasking capabilities. Google also said that it will bring new AI-powered features backed by Gemini, which recently got multimodal capabilities. However, some important details like price, the product name and hardware specifications still remain under wraps, so we will have to wait a few months to get the full picture.

Here's when Samsung's XR headset is rumored to launch
Samsung's first XR headset, currently codenamed Project Moohan, has already been showcased by the company a bunch of times, but it's still not fully official. A new report out of Korea claims the company has now set a date for its unveiling: September 29. Then, it will become available for purchase on October 13, in Korea first. After the domestic market launch, it will gradually start to make its way to other places. This will be the first headset to use Android XR, which, as the name implies, is a version of Android made specifically for such headsets. Android XR itself was initially announced last year and is jointly developed by Google and Samsung, following their co-development success with the last few versions of Wear OS. You won't be surprised to find out that Android XR will include Google's Gemini AI. The Samsung headset is using Qualcomm's XR+ Gen 2 chipset, which is apparently manufactured by Samsung using a 4nm process. Before its full unveiling, the Samsung XR headset will be showcased once again at the company's Unpacked event next month, where it will announce the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7. Source (in Korean)

Samsung's Android XR headset may be ready for launch sooner than you'd think
Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority TL;DR A new report claims Samsung will hold a launch event for its XR headset on September 29, 2025. The headset will be released in South Korea on October 13, with global availability coming later. Project Moohan will be compatible with most Android smartphone and tablet apps to pad out the amount of available content. Samsung has been fairly quiet about Project Moohan since its unveiling back in January. The Android XR headset has been shown off a couple of times and we know it will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chip, but nothing else has really been confirmed. While a handful of leaks have helped shed some light on the product, there are still plenty of unknowns that surround the Vision Pro rival. However, a new report may have answered one of the most pressing questions we have — the release date. Project Moohan may get its own launch event on September 29, 2025, according to a report from NewsPim (via SamMobile). It's said that the hardware will then become available in South Korea on October 13, with global availability to come sometime later. Global availability will likely include the US. Before the launch event, Samsung may tease the XR device next month during its Unpacked event for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. At Unpacked, the company will reportedly showcase the prototype and play teaser videos for the audience. It's believed that Samsung will use this as an opportunity to gauge market interest. To separate itself from Meta and Apple, Samsung aims to tackle some of the sticking points that are common with this technology, like weight, battery life, content, and performance. In terms of content, the report mentions that most Android smartphone and tablet apps will be compatible with the headset without the need for modification. However, some first-party apps from Google and Samsung will have an immersive UI design. Even after this report, we're still missing some crucial details about Project Moohan, like the actual name, specs, and how much it will cost. If this information is true, then there's a possibility Samsung may drop at least a few more details about the device at July's Unpacked. Got a tip? Talk to us! Samsung's Project Moohan to supplement Galaxy foldable revenue, release date leaked
The upcoming Samsung XR ( Extended Reality ) headset 'Project Moohan' is supposed to supplement the revenue generated from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Project Moohan will see an initial launch in Korea, and then expand to other markets around the globe soon after. The company's flagship smartphones — like the Samsung Galaxy S25 series — come out in the first quarter of a year. Samsung then launches its foldable phones, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 6, later in the year to keep its growth churning along. The Project Moohan headset is reportedly ( translated source ) part of a strategy to supplement that growth in the second half of the year, which might indicate yearly releases. Project Moohan will not be released alongside the Flip 7 and Fold 7 , as I previously reported, but will make an appearance at July's Galaxy Unpacked event regardless. The exact release date for the headset is September 29, when it will come out in Korea via a domestic event. One of the biggest plays that Samsung is betting on is the implementation of Google's Android XR. The company is hoping that being late to the party will be somewhat offset by having a ton of Android apps ready to go on the headset. Google Maps providing directions in Mixed Reality in Android XR. | Image credit — Google Samsung has also apparently conducted a lot of research into one of the biggest reasons people stay away from VR headsets: comfort. The company has gone through a ton of trial and error to deliver a headset that has reasonable comfort, battery life, and use cases. Project Moohan is designed from the ground up to directly compete with the Apple Vision Pro and the Meta Quest Vision Pro — which promises a premium Mixed Reality experience — failed to sell well due to its ridiculously high price tag and drought of content. Meta's Quest headsets, on the other hand, dominate the XR market because of their affordable prices and excellent hardware. Samsung, in my opinion, will have to offer a premium experience for a much lower price than Apple's headset to really stand a chance here. The foldable industry has been seeing a downward trend as well, so it makes sense that Samsung would try to make up for lost growth potential during the foldable releases. It's still not confirmed whether the tri-foldable that Samsung is working on will come out this year too. If it does, then this will be a bountiful season for Samsung users.
