Aaron Rodgers receives tough criticism following signing with Pittsburgh Steelers, Skip Bayless deems team ‘worst in NFL'

Aaron Rodgers (via Getty Images) Aaron Rodgers' switch to the Pittsburgh Steelers has generated both enthusiasm and outrage, with ex-TV commentator Skip Bayless unleashing a mean and strange rant on social media. The four-time NFL MVP, who just inked with the Steelers following a tumultuous stint with the New York Jets, is coming under vicious criticism from Bayless, who referred to the Steelers as "the worst team in the NFL." The harshest criticism, though, speaks volumes more about Bayless than it does Rodgers or the Steelers. Skip Bayless trashes Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers in insane internet rant Controversy has accompanied Aaron Rodgers during his career, and his new NFL chapter with the Pittsburgh Steelers is no different. Even with Rodgers coming back from a 2023 injury to pass for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns with the New York Jets in 2024, media instigator Skip Bayless revived criticism of the 41-year-old quarterback by labeling his new team "the worst in the NFL." Bayless, out of work and mired in a scandal involving a former FS1 colleague, uploaded the tirade to social media in a seeming bid for notice. In the video, Bayless scoffed at Aaron Rodgers as a "diva" and declared the veteran quarterback would "steal from the Steelers," with a pun that bombed even by his standards. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Costco Shoppers Say This $7 Generic Cialis Is Actually Worth It FridayPlans Learn more Undo Aaron Rodgers looking to be a 'servant leader' with Steelers | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC He then announced, unsubstantiated, "Aaron Rodgers makes them one of the worst, if not THE worst, team in the NFL." The assertion is in conflict with Rodgers' latest stats as well as the recent history of the Steelers. Rodgers, not entirely at his best, still had a quality year in 2024 playing for the New York Jets, even though they went just 5-12. In the meantime, the Pittsburgh Steelers just came off a 10-7 campaign and playoff appearance under head coach Mike Tomlin, who has notoriously never had a losing season in his 17 years at the helm. The notion that a team with Tomlin's experience and a health-restored Rodgers would instantly become the league's worst is unreal. The Steelers are taking a chance on experience and leadership, and if Rodgers remains healthy, the move could turn out huge.

Nick Chubb to visit Houston Texans, expected to sign contingent on physical

Nick Chubb's days in Cleveland have appeared to be over for months. The only question was where the free-agent running back would end up for the 2025 season. It appears the answer to that question will be with the Houston Texans. Advertisement Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz was the first to report Sunday that Chubb was scheduling a visit with the Texans for June 9. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shortly after that reported the running back was expected to sign with Houston, assuming a positive outcome with his physical. If that happens, it will signal the end of an era for one of the franchise's all-time fan favorites. It will also be the end of one of the most successful careers for a Browns player since 1999. Chubb will depart No. 3 on the Browns' all-time rushing list with 6,843 yards in 85 career games. The only two in front of him are face-of-the-franchise Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly. "Man, just for me, the city of Cleveland means lot," Chubb said in a conversation with the Beacon Journal on Feb. 7. "To me, it's a special place. The people in Cleveland make it great, the fans and just the people around the city. But always a special place to me in my heart. I loved it here and it will always be home, no matter what." Advertisement That Chubb's new team will likely be Houston makes for a full-circle moment. The Browns selected Chubb out of the University of Georgia with the No. 35 overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, a pick they acquired from the Texans in exchange for taking on Brock Osweiler's contract. The Browns had signaled their decision to move on from the franchise icon with multiple decisions over the course of the offseason. They drafted two running backs in April — Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins and Tennessee's Dylan Sampson — and reworked fourth-year pro Jerome Ford's contract to give the club more flexibility. Injuries over the last two seasons expedited the separation. Chubb suffered a major knee injury Sept. 18, 2023, in a Week 2 game in Pittsburgh that cost him the rest of that season and the first six games of the 2024 season. Chubb's 2024 season was then halted by a broken foot in a Week 15 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He rushed for 332 yards and three touchdowns on 102 carries over the course of eight games. Advertisement The four-time Pro Bowler wasn't just top three in the Browns' record books in career rushing yards. His 30 100-yard rushing games are second most all-time, and his 51 career rushing touchdowns are third most. Chubb's 5.11 yards-per-carry average is fourth highest all-time in NFL history, behind Jamal Charles (5.38), Brown (5.22) and Mercury Morris (5.19). His rushing total is the fourth highest in the NFL since 2018, behind Derrick Henry (10,189), Saquon Barkley (7,216) and Josh Jacobs (6,874). Geno Smith Reveals Real Reason Why He's on the Raiders

Geno Smith Reveals Real Reason Why He's on the Raiders originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders took a leap of faith this offseason when they hired 73-year-old Pete Carroll to be the team's next head coach. Advertisement While Carroll had more experience and accolades than any other candidate in the cycle, fans had reservations about a rebuilding franchise hiring an aging coach. However, Carroll was able to convince general manager John Spytek to send a third-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks, his former team, in exchange for Geno Smith, his former quarterback. This provided a massive upgrade compared to what the team had under center last season. All of a sudden, this Raiders team looks like it can compete right away despite playing in a brutal AFC West division. Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith and head coach Pete Camporeale-Imagn Images Most assumed that the connection between these two men was the reason that they ended up reuniting in Las Vegas. Smith all but confirmed this when he spoke to the media on Monday. Advertisement "I don't know (if I would be here without coach Carroll)," Smith said. "For coach Carroll to be here, and for him to have me as part of this thing, to be able to lead this thing, it's a dream come true. But, also, he understands what I'm about, I understand what he's about." After spending several seasons floating between a part-time starter and a backup, Smith was able to earn a starting role for Carroll and the Seahawks in 2022. That season, he was the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award, and he used the momentum to put together two straight Pro Bowl campaigns. Smith may already be 34 years old, but he has only played 94 games in his career, so he should still have quite a bit left in the tank. He even threw for a career-best 4,320 passing yards last season and had a career-high 70.4% completion percentage. (via Pro Football Reference). Advertisement While Las Vegas has several unproven pieces that they will need to rely on this season, Smith and Carroll's relationship is a testament to the fact that the veteran coach can draw the best out of anyone. Cam Skattebo's Lack of Pro Football History Knowledge Is Shockingly Bad

Cam Skattebo's Lack of Pro Football History Knowledge Is Shockingly Bad originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. In a Barstool Sports video that appeared on X, Skattebo was looking at photos of some of the NFL's greatest players on his phone and was asked to identify each by name. Advertisement Shockingly, the New York Giants rookie was 'scatterbrained' as he could not identify two Pro Football Hall of Famers: Calvin Johnson and Brett Favre. Johnson was later identified only after Skattebo received hints. In addition, Skattebo was unable to identify former Saints great Marques Colston, but was able to name Seahawks Legion of Boom safety Kam Chancellor. It is a good thing Skattebo was not looking at photos of ex-Giants running backs that came before him. How embarrassing would it be not to know your team's backfield history and recognize Tiki Barber, Joe Morris or Ottis Anderson? A fourth-round pick out of Arizona State, Skattebo took college football by storm last season, rushing for over 1,700 yards and a whopping 21 TDs. Skattebo's effectiveness inside the red zone is the reason he is fighting for a spot on the Giants roster. Advertisement Let us hope Skattebo learns the Giants playbook better than he knows NFL history.
