Govt. to decide on vacant seats after Plus One admissions: Minister
After the completion of this year's Plus One admissions, the government will examine and decide what to do with seats that regularly remain vacant, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said. At a press conference here on Tuesday, the Minister said a number of seats was likely to remain vacant, particularly in Malappuram, after completion of the admission process. The Minister underlined that the Plus One main phase allotment and admission had been completed without any protests as the government had taken care to ensure that the batches temporarily sanctioned and shifted in previous years had been included in the seat matrix for allotment. Guidelines for submitting applications had also been published along with publication of results. The number of students who had got A+ grade had also come down. Praveshanolsavam Mr. Sivankutty said that for the first time ever, a Praveshanolsavam would be held for Plus One higher secondary students to mark the start of their classes at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The State-level inauguration would be held at Government Model Boys Higher Secondary School, Thycaud, here at 9 a.m. The Minister said that 2.11 lakh students had taken permanent admission in merit quota till Monday evening. In the sports quota, it was 3,428 and in model residential school it was 1,045. As many as 13,609 students had taken admission in community quota; 6,840 in management quota; and 3,826 in unaided quota. In all, 2,40,533 lakh students had taken permanent Plus One admission. As many as 4,24,583 students had passed the SSLC examinations, while 4,63,686 had applied for Plus One admission. As many as 45,851 applicants had submitted applications in more than one district, the Minister said. Incorrect entry Students who had entered their community incorrectly in the applications and so could not take admission in their allotted schools can correct the errors and apply for supplementary allotment. Vacancies and other details for supplementary allotment will be published on June 28. Management quota admissions will be completed on June 27 and the remaining vacancies included for supplementary allotment. SAY exams The Save-a-Year (SAY) examinations would be held in 572 centres in the State, Lakshadweep, and Gulf countries from June 23 to 27. As many as 1.19 lakh students will sit for the examinations. Improvement can be held in one subject. Students who failed can attempt all papers.

School headmaster suspended over participation of POCSO case accused in school Praveshanolsavam
The manager of Fort High School has suspended school headmaster T.S. Pradeep Kumar from service pending an inquiry in the wake of participation of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) case accused at the school Praveshanolsavam last week. The suspension order came into effect on Tuesday. The order said the incident hurt the reputation of the General Education department. A preliminary inquiry conducted by the Thiruvananthapuram deputy director of education had found that the headmaster's inattention had resulted in the participation of the POCSO case accused in the celebrations. As per the directions of the DDE, the headmaster had been temporarily suspended from service, it said. Senior Malayalam teacher R. Rajesh would discharge the responsibilities of the headmaster. Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty had on Monday said that the school manager had been directed to take action in the case.

Kerala's women and child welfare department has revised the anganwadi food menu to include egg biryani and pulao, following a viral video of a 4-year-old boy's request to replace upma with biryani and chicken fry. The revised menu was unveiled on Tuesday by Women and Child Development Minister Veena George at the state-level inauguration of anganwadis' Praveshanolsavam in Pathanamthitta. The new menu aims to reduce sugar and salt intake while increasing calories and protein to support child growth, aligned with nutritional standards. Egg and milk will be provided on three days a week, compared to two days earlier. The menu will cover breakfast, lunch, and general feeding, marking the first time a unified food menu is implemented for anganwadi children across the state. The boy, Trijal S Sundhar, popularly known as Shanku, is currently in Qatar with his family. His mother, Aswathy Ashok, shared that Shanku is excited about the change. 'We will be returning to our native place by mid-July, and he will join school then,' she said. The family hails from Prayar near Oachira in Alappuzha district. Aswathy explained that the video was not planned. 'Shanku's father returned to Qatar after his choroonu (first rice meal fed auspiciously). I used to take Shanku's photographs and videos and post them on Instagram for his father to see. The biryani video too was shot just like that,' she said. She added, 'Shanku doesn't like upma and his favourite food is porridge and black-eyed pea. Upma was being served in the anganwadis daily and he developed a hatred towards it. He made the request for biryani and chicken fry while having biryani at home.' Live Events Minister Veena George had shared the video on Facebook earlier and promised to consider the demand, which has now been fulfilled through the revised menu.
