Katie Price opens up over rare cancer diagnosis after one sign

Katie Price, 47, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer while she was pregnant with her eldest son, Harvey Katie Price has opened up about her battle with a rare form of cancer that she was diagnosed with while pregnant with her son Harvey. The 47-year-old former glamour model, who became pregnant in 2002 after a brief fling with ex-Premier League star Dwight Yorke, was told by doctors that the stress of her pregnancy could have triggered the development of leiomyosarcoma, commonly referred to as LMS. Just 11 weeks after discovering her son Harvey Price had Prader-Willi Syndrome and was blind, Katie was diagnosed with the uncommon cancer. She shared her ordeal on Katherine Ryan's podcast What's My Age Again?, revealing that the cancer developed on her hand. LMS is a type of soft tissue sarcoma with a 50 per cent survival rate at an advanced stage. Katie initially learned of the lump on her hand when a manicurist noticed it, but two doctors initially dismissed it as harmless. However, she was later advised to have the growth removed and underwent a biopsy at Nuffield Hospital in Brighton, where the lump was excised, reports Plymouth Live. In conversation with comedian Katherine Ryan, Katie recounted: "While I was pregnant with Harvey I got cancer. I didn't know that until, because they couldn't do all the scans, after. "It was in my hand, they took it out, it was called leiomyosarcoma. Apparently I got that from being pregnant, the stress of it." She recalled informing her mother about her diagnosis in a casual manner, saying: "So when I phoned my mum, I just remember going: 'Mum, just to let you know, they found cancer'. I was so flippant like that because so much had already happened to me by then." She explained: "It was just a, 'Yeah, this has happened now', 'Yeah, that's happened now'. I think about it and then I'm just like, oh, well, you just got to get on with it." After her diagnosis, Katie had to attend regular check-ups following the removal of the growth. At the time, she described Harvey as her "inspiration" during her health scare. According to Sarcoma UK, there are around 525 cases of LMS each year in the United Kingdom. The condition affects women more than men, with the median age of diagnosis being 64. The prognosis is generally positive, with around 79% of women and 90% of men surviving the condition for at least a year. Treatment options often involve surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy. Katie went on to have two more children, Junior and Princess, with her ex-husband Peter Andre, whom she met on the set of I'm a Me Out of Here! in 2004 and married in 2005. However, they divorced in 2009. Katie later married Alex Reid in 2010, but they divorced after just a year. In 2013, she married Kieran Hayler, with whom she had two children, Bunny and Jett, before divorcing in 2021. Katie is currently in a relationship with JJ Slater, a former contestant on Married at First Sight.

#SHOWBIZ: 8TV's Project Love Fund channels nearly RM200k to 24 underprivileged Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: Chua Xiu Yi, 11, is finally able to jump for joy. Her treatment for the rare genetic disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome, which affects only 1 in 15,000 people globally, is now under control. Her mother, Phoon Suet Chen, 49, explained that Xiu Yi, the youngest of her three children, was diagnosed with the illness at the age of two and required growth hormone treatment. "She used to be a very weak baby, and as she grew bigger, she began to feel hungry very often," said Phoon, whose family hails from Klang. Specialists at the University Malaya Medical Centre treated Xiu Yi two years ago, leading to a "considerable improvement" in her condition. "Xiu Yi also suffered from heart and lung problems as a result of her disorder," Phoon added. "The medicine gradually worked for her, and today she keeps herself focused and fit with Zumba lessons, which she absolutely loves." Meanwhile, Nor Alia Abdullah, 39, who assists her husband in selling cotton candy in the city, has been patiently caring for her four children, all born with heart disease. Her children — Adam Ali, 12, Salwa Ali, 9, Alia Damia, 6, and Husna, 2 — are now on the mend, having received the best medical care for their conditions. "Adam even underwent surgery at Gleneagles Hospital last year; he's a lot fitter and more energetic today," said Nor Alia, whose husband also suffers from cataracts. "Salwa will have surgery next month, and I'm optimistic it will do her good." Xiu Yi and Nor Alia's children are among 24 families who have benefited from the second season of 8TV Jasmine Project Love Season 2, which recently concluded its heartwarming journey. This initiative brings together Malaysians in need of medical help with various charitable organisations. It highlights the plight of the less fortunate, and its weekly human interest stories have moved viewers nationwide since last year. Nini further commented, "This popular documentary continues to connect with a broad audience, including younger Malaysians, underscoring the timeless power of storytelling across generations. As in the first season, our action-oriented co-hosts once again journeyed across the country to reveal deeply human stories reflecting the complexities of everyday life." She mentioned that the co-hosts — Owen Yap, Chan Wei Wei, Desmond Tey, Tan Chia Yong, Ong Ching Yee, Jan Chin, Soh Chin Chuan, and Charlotte Seow — expanded the programme's reach beyond the Klang Valley, visiting communities in Negri Sembilan, Perak, and Melaka. "From children battling rare diseases to families facing hardships, the programme highlighted real stories, inspiring empathy and support amongst viewers," she said. Jefferies Maintains Buy Rating on Rhythm Pharmaceuticals (RYTM), Sets $80 Price Target

In a report released on June 4, Dennis Ding from Jefferies maintained a Buy rating on Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:RYTM) with a price target of $80.00. The analyst based the rating on the company's strategic developments and promising pipeline. One of the primary reasons behind the rating was the anticipated Phase II data for the oral treatment for hypothalamic obesity (HO). It is expected to deliver notable BMI reduction and has been de-risked, thereby extending the potential of the franchise beyond the current expiration dates. A scientist conducting research in a laboratory, studying a Petri dish with advanced biopharmaceuticals. The analyst stated that management is confident in the weekly subcutaneous (subQ) treatment, which closely aligns with the previously approved setmelanotide, and thus further adds to the positive outlook for Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:RYTM). According to Ding, the setmelanotide Phase II open-label trial for Prader-Willi Syndrome can also pave the way for a significant opportunity if successful, even after its previous challenges. Management is focusing on patient starts instead of the immediate revenue post-launch, and this strategy supports the long-term growth prospects, according to the analyst. Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:RYTM) is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company that develops and commercializes therapeutics for the treatment of rare diseases. Its product pipeline includes IMCIVREE (setmelanotide), a precision medicine that treats hyperphagia and severe obesity caused by rare melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) diseases. The company also has other programs, including a preclinical suite of investigational candidates to treat congenital hyperinsulinism and a clinical development program for setmelanotide in other rare MC4R pathway diseases. While we acknowledge the potential of RYTM as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
