Tata Steel Expands Digital Platform to Empower MSMEs
You're reading Entrepreneur India, an international franchise of Entrepreneur Media. Tata Steel has rolled out a broader version of its e-commerce platform, DigECA, opening access to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the company announced in a press release. Previously limited to channel partners, DigECA is now aimed at emerging corporate accounts (ECAs), a category under which Tata Steel classifies MSMEs. The platform is designed to streamline how these businesses purchase flat steel products, including Tata Astrum, Tata Steelium, and Galvano. The launch marks a significant step in Tata Steel's digital strategy, building on the foundation laid by its earlier B2C portal, Aashiyana. DigECA offers MSMEs direct transactional capabilities and real-time visibility into product availability, order status, and delivery, removing the dependence on traditional distribution chains. According to the company, the intent is to offer a more efficient and transparent supply experience, tailored to the evolving needs of smaller businesses. Since its pilot in the fourth quarter of FY25, DigECA has onboarded over 2,000 ECA customers and registered notable progress in gross merchandise value. Tata Steel attributes this early growth to the platform's focus on reducing friction in the procurement process, from inquiry through to post-supply support. Prabhat Kumar, vice president, marketing & sales (Flat Products) at Tata Steel, said the expansion of DigECA is part of a larger shift toward customer-centric digital solutions. "At Tata Steel, we are committed to enhancing customer satisfaction through digital innovation," he said in a statement. "With the launch of DigECA for our ECA customers, we are simplifying the steel buying experience and strengthening their direct engagement with Tata Steel. The platform is designed to enable a more connected and efficient relationship between customers and our distribution network, helping us better align our offerings with evolving market needs." While DigECA's focus remains on flat steel products, its long-term aim appears to be more ambitious, deepening the company's presence across India's MSME ecosystem and modernizing how industrial buyers interact with major steel producers.

Virology lab to start RT-PCR tests this week: Sadar hospital
1 2 3 Ranchi: Amid rising Covid 19 cases in Jharkhand, a newly built virology centre at the sadar hospital, that is fully equipped for carrying out a wide range of tests, remains locked for nearly two years. Built at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, the centre, located on the first floor of a newly constructed multi-storey building within the premises of the hospital, was designed to detect viral infections such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Covid 19. Now, hospital authorities claimed that the centre will be made operational within a week for conducting RT-PCR tests as the recruitment processes for one microbiologist and three additional support staff has been completed. The construction was completed under the supervision of a private agency and is not yet handed over to hospital management, said sources. Dr Bimlesh Singh, deputy medical superintendent, said, "While machines for testing have been installed, they are yet to be officially handed over, which is the reason for the delay. We expect to move towards initiating operations perhaps within two or three days, but there are administrative hurdles that need to be addressed first." Ranchi civil surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar said, "Earlier, RT-PCR tests were conducted only in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims). The new RT-PCR facility here will help ease the load of Rims." In state's first during current wave, 44-year-old Covid patient dies at Rims
1 2 Ranchi: A 44-year-old man, who tested positive for Covid-19, died of co-morbid conditions at the state-run Rims here, officials said on Tuesday. It is the first Covid-related casualty of the state in the current wave. Four new cases were also detected in Ranchi district during the day, taking the tally of the cases across the district to 12. As the state health department did not release any figures, there is no cumulative number of Covid cases for Jharkhand though the Union health ministry's Covid dashboard put the number of cases in the state to 6, an increase of two since Monday. The state detected its first Covid case of the current wave on May 24 this year when filmmaker Lal Vijay Shahdeo contracted the disease while returning from Mumbai. Talking about the death on Tuesday, Rims officials said the patient had multiple and severe co-morbid conditions. Doctors at the hospital said the exact cause of the death was refractory septic shock, a condition marked by circulatory failure and not respiratory failure, which is typically associated with Covid fatalities. He was referred to Rims from the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) on June 2 after experiencing a severe medical emergency. According to doctors, the patient suffered cardiac arrest after some food became lodged in his throat, leading to respiratory distress. He was administered CPR and later intubated before being transferred to Rims for ventilator support. A report of his medical examination said the patient was suffering from aspiration pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). He was placed on ventilator support in the trauma centre due to his critical condition. In addition to these complications, he was also battling several other pre-existing health issues. He tested positive for Covid on June 5 during routine testing of admitted patients. Both Rims authorities and Ranchi civil surgeon Dr Prabhat Kumar couldn't say whether the deceased has a past Covid history or not. Dr Kumar, remarked, "With the current rise in Covid cases and the unfortunate first death linked to a co-morbid patient, it is crucial for people to remain vigilant and there is no panic. Our focus is on managing this situation with care and emphasizing the importance of safety measures."
