One thing that won't be in NSW budget
NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey has definitely ruled out any announcement on the government's 'Plan B' for housing in next week's budget, after a $5bn proposal to turn Rosehill racecourse into 25,000 homes was shot down. Mr Mookhey will hand down his third budget since Labor's 2022 election on Tuesday, as NSW continues to grapple with a worsening housing crisis and the fallout from a summer marred by anti-Semitic attacks. Billions of dollars in spending has already been announced ahead of the budget, expected to feature the same fiscal restraint as the previous two years, including in housing, justice reform, and Western Sydney airport. The budget comes after a majority of members from the Australian Turf Club voted down plans in May to turn the historic Rosehill racecourse in Sydney's west into a first-of-its-kind mini-city with a Metro station. Premier Chris Minns has since said the state government was working on its 'Plan B', with reports the port of Glebe Island was being eyed for housing, but has so far remained mum on what that project would be. NewsWire / John Appleyard Credit: News Corp Australia Asked about whether the 'Plan B' for housing near Sydney's CBD would feature in the budget, Mr Mookhey on Friday told NewsWire '(in) next week's budget, we will make progress in dealing with the housing challenge'. 'We will not be sort of announcing Plan B on budget day. But we're pretty clear that we need to build more homes.' Mr Mookhey said he was 'disappointed' in the failed sale of Rosehill. 'What it means for the state is that we do need to build more homes,' he said. A raft of policy measures has already been announced ahead of the budget to target housing, including making tax cuts to build-to-rent schemes indefinite and draft guidelines for the 'build-in-kind' scheme. Despite a damaging few weeks for the Treasurer, whose workers compensation reform measures were sent back for another inquiry amid fierce push back from the Liberals, Greens, and the unions, Mr Mookhey was optimistic. Asked about the message of the 2025-26 budget, Mr Mookhey said it was about the 'future of our essential services and the future of our economy', and touted the work of the NSW Labor government until now. NewsWire / Monique Harmer Credit: News Corp Australia 'It is about making sure that we are making the right investments to deliver the world class public services that people will expect, and to make sure that the NSW economy continues to grow so we can lift people's living standards, improve their wages and create jobs,' Mr Mookhey said. 'That's been what this budget has been about, and the reason why we can now make these investments is because we've made real progress in stabilising the state's finances. 'We've inherited a $15bn deficit, which we've made good progress in turning around. We can report now for the first time in years, the NSW government is back into cash surplus. 'We can say that the debt is stabilising. We've kept our promise to keep debt at below $187bn at this point in time. So, that gives us that platform for more progress.' The budget comes after the Western Australian budget on Thursday reported a $2.5bn surplus off the back of a 2018 deal that gave it an guaranteed share of the country's GST carve-up. 'It's undoubtedly the case that that remains a challenge for NSW, and it doesn't matter whether there's a Labor treasurer or a Liberal treasurer, the state would have to be dealing with that. 'Which is why I am glad that here in NSW, we do have bipartisanship about the need for GST reform. 'But, in arguing for NSW's position, I don't talk down any other states and I accept the fact that every state will always argue for what they consider to be their interest. 'I'm simply saying that there's a simpler system, that more predictable system, a more certain system that is available, and we'll continue to argue our case for change.'

Brad Pitt, Channing Tatum Team On Isle Of Man Movie, Docuseries
Yara Sameh Following one of the more unique auctions the industry has seen in some time, Amazon MGM Studios has landed a film and docuseries package on the legendary Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race with movie stars Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum involved. Tatum is attached to star in the film about the motorcycle races, which will be directed by Dog director Reid Carolin, who also wrote the script with Jason Keller and Bryan Johnson. It will be produced by Tatum and Carolin's Free Association, Pitt's Plan B and Entertainment 360's Guymon Casady and Jason Keller. The docuseries was filmed during last year's TT races with never-before-seen access to the riders and the races due to an exclusive partnership between the producers and the event promoters. It was produced by the same group, along with pre-eminent sports documentary producer Box to Box Films and Mediawan — the leading independent European studio and majority stakeholder of Plan B — with the participation of Entourage Ventures. Plot details remain under wraps, but the scope and history of the legendary race have all the notes of an epic feature film. Long before Formula 1, World Endurance and MotoGP, there was the Isle of Man TT. As the world's oldest continuously running motorsport event, it remains a one-of-a-kind spectacle. With riders pushing man and machine to the edge at nearly 200 mph, the TT represents the pinnacle of sporting endeavor and the relentless pursuit of glory. The never-before-seen docuseries is a 4×45-minute cinematic, character-driven series where riders chase their dreams and embrace life to its fullest. QUEBECOR FUND ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR PRODUCERS UNDER ITS TELEVISION PRODUCTION SUPPORT PROGRAMS Français
MONTREAL, June 5, 2025 /CNW/ - The Quebecor Fund Board of Directors today announced the list of Canadian production companies that will receive financial support in the 50th round of the Fund's Television Production Assistance Program, for which submissions closed on April 1, 2025. In this round, the Fund is disbursing a total of more than $2.1 million. Under the Support for the Creation of Intellectual Property component, $785,000 has been granted to four projects from Productions Untamed 5 inc., Écho Média inc., PVP Média inc. and Happy Camper Média inc. The broadcasters supporting the development of these projects are TVA Group Inc., Société Radio‑Canada, Télé‑Québec and TFO. Under the Support for the Production of Intellectual Property for International Markets component, $1,340,231 has been granted in this round to seven fiction series projects from Productions KOTV inc., Zone3 inc., V10 Média inc. (International distributor: Quebecor Content – TVA Distribution), Sphère Média inc., Aetios Productions inc., Duo Productions inc. and Productions Pixcom inc. The selected productions will air in Canada on Société Radio‑Canada, Bell Media Inc and TVA Group Inc. Since its inception in 1999, Quebecor Fund's Television Production Assistance Program has supported a total of 412 projects involving 99 production companies, 49 Canadian broadcasters and 100 foreign platforms and broadcasters with grants totalling more than $108.9 million across all of its components. Of the funding granted under Quebecor Fund's three components since spring 2017, 19% has gone to documentaries, 19% to programs for children/youth, 14% to variety/performing arts, and 48% to drama. Counting this round of the Support for the Creation of Intellectual Property component, launched in March 2017, Quebecor Fund has provided repayable grants totalling nearly $14.9 million to support creation projects in all genres that have received a financial commitment from a recognized French–language broadcasting programming undertaking (BPU). Counting this round of the Support for the Production of Intellectual Property for International Markets component, launched in April 2019 in partnership with the Canada Media Fund (CMF), Quebecor Fund has provided repayable grants of nearly $16.7 million and the CMF $6.5 million, for a total of nearly $23.2 million. Albuquerque Fire Rescue said that at 4:25 p.m., they were called to the Hahn Arroyo for a possible flood victim that was spotted in the water near Pennsylvania Blvd. They said the victim was first spotted in the Main Diversion Channel near Menaul Blvd., but they were not seen again until crews located the body just north of Edith Blvd. in northeast Albuquerque [2] APS teacher arrested after accusations of sexual relationships with students – An APS teacher is accused of having inappropriate relationships with students. Patrick Corr, 33, was placed on administrative leave at the end of the 2024 school year as APS police investigated. A criminal complaint says a 17-year-old former student of Corr claims he bought alcohol for her and her 16-year-old cousin before taking them to his home. The complaint goes on to say that the teen was drunk, but remembers Corr having sex with her and giving her a Plan B pill the following morning. Another victim claims while drinking, Corr got her pregnant twice, she ended both pregnancies. Police arrested Corr Monday night, he faces a slew of charges including three counts of having sex with a minor. [3] Rounds of rainfall with seasonable temperatures – Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorm chances will return Tuesday and Wednesday before drier air returns. A backdoor cold front will move into northeast New Mexico early Tuesday morning, quickly moving south and west across the state. [4] Albuquerque city councilors pass ordinance regulating hemp products – Monday night, city councilors passed a bill that brings regulation to hemp products. The piece of legislation sponsored by Councilor Dan Lewis bans synthetic cannabinoids exceeding 0.3% of THC. KRQE News 13's Larry Barker first exposed the problem of cannabis products being identified as hemp, allowing them to be sold anywhere, including convenience stores and gas stations. The ordinance passed on a 7-2 vote. [5] Albuquerque community helps band recover stolen trailer – A traveling band's trailer has been returned after being stolen during a trip to Albuquerque. After a successful show at Revel Saturday night, the band 'Raynes' says their trailer carrying all their equipment was stolen from their hotel parking lot in the University area. The band searched around town and put out a call to social media, which led to a Facebook message from someone who spotted the trailer. The band, alongside police, recovered the trailer.
