Nothing Phone 3 confirmed to offer extended software support: All details

The Nothing Phone 3 will officially debut in India on July 1, 2025. This year, Nothing teases the products as 'first true flagship' as it teases premium materials, powerful chipset, refined software and improved camera. Just a few days ago, Nothing revealed that the Phone 3 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, raising eyebrows about its flagship capabilities. Now, company co-founder Akis Evangelidis has confirmed the smartphone's software support, which offers about 7 years of security updates. As the launch gets closer, we expect that Nothing will gradually reveal more details about the Phone 3 model and what it will offer in the flagship segment. Therefore, to provide clarity, Evangelidis shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the chip's capabilities. The post highlighted performance improvements in comparison to Phone 2, which showcases the Phone 3 has 88% improvement in GPU, 33% faster CPU, and 125% upgrade in NPU. ' To which Evangelidis replied, saying that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor has weaker performance in comparison to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, and that it offers 4 years of OS and software support by default. Whereas, Nothing Phone 3 with the new chip will offer 5 years of software updates and 7 years of security updates. This will come as a major upgrade since the Phone 3 supports only 3 years of software and 4 years of security updates. It is tipped to feature a 50MP triple camera setup that may include a 50MP telephoto lens with up to 3x optical zoom. Reports suggest that the Phone 3 may come with an upgraded battery, with an expected size of about 5200mAh. Apart from these hardware upgrades, the software is also likely to provide users with seamless AI integration. However, nothing about AI has been revealed as of now. Therefore, we will have to wait until July 1 to know what Nothing has planned for its flagship model.

Nothing Phone (3) will have 7 years of software support

Yesterday, Nothing confirmed the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 as the SoC of choice for the upcoming Nothing Phone (3). Company co-founder Akis Evangelidis praised the chip's performance, citing an 88% improvement in GPU speed, a 33% faster CPU, and a whopping 125% improvement in NPU speed compared to the Phone (2). Today, he also confirmed the software support details. When asked why the company didn't choose another SoC, Evangelidis said the new chip will clear the path to better software support - "5 & 7" instead of "4 & 4". Read that as five years of major OS updates and seven years of security patches. 8 Gen 3 has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP - and default software support is 4 & 4. Phone (3) will have 5 & 7. — Akis Evangelidis (@AkisEvangelidis) June 17, 2025 That's a big upgrade over the 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches the Nothing Phone (2) got. The Nothing Phone (3) is coming in July.

Nothing Phone 3 to get 7 years of software updates, launch set for July 1

Ahead of the launch, Nothing has confirmed that the Phone 3 will be powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip. However, this has not been taken well by the audience. It has been quite some time since the company began discussing the upcoming Phone 3 and has been describing it as "a true flagship". Now, if it is a flagship, shouldn't it feature a high-end chipset? For instance, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. With this revelation, several questions are stuck in the mind. Starting with, if it does not feature a premium chipset, how will CEO Carl Pei justify the $799 price tag? Secondly, if not the chipset, then what is so flagship-like in the upcoming Phone 3? While these questions will only be answered once we have more information, to put some perspective into it, Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis has confirmed that Nothing Phone 3 will get 7 years of software updates. advertisementAfter Nothing revealed the chipset, an X (formerly known as Twitter) user asked why the company chose Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and not 8 Gen 3. Replying to this query, Evangelidis said that while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip has a weaker GPU, NPU, connectivity and ISP, and comes with a software support of just 4 years, the upcoming Nothing Phone 3 powered by Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip will have 7 years of software updates and 5 years of security Phone 3: Launch dateAfter nearly two years of anticipation, Nothing is finally ready to reveal its next flagship, the Phone 3, which is officially set to launch on July 1, 2025. The London-based tech brand has kept fans waiting since the release of the Phone 2 back in July 2023. Over the past year, Nothing has broadened its portfolio considerably. It made notable strides in the mid-range space with the introduction of the Phone 2a series, followed more recently by the Phone 3a. The brand also dipped its toes into the budget segment with its CMF sub-brand, which now includes devices like the CMF Phone 1 and Phone 2 Pro, along with a collection of affordable audio Yet, despite all this diversification, a true flagship successor to the Phone 2 has remained conspicuously absent, until now. The Phone 3 promises to fill that gap, marking Nothing's return to the premium smartphone arena this Phone 3: Price expectationsPei recently hinted at a premium pricing approach for the upcoming Nothing Phone 3, suggesting a possible price point of around 800 during an appearance on The Android Show: I/O Edition. That figure converts to nearly Rs 90,000, a substantial leap from the Rs 44,999 starting price of the Phone 2 at launch in the Phone 3 is expected to carry price tags of $799 and $899, which translate to approximately Rs 68,000 and Rs 77,000, respectively. However, Indian pricing typically undercuts international rates, especially those seen in European and UK brings us to a crucial question, how much will it actually cost in India? While Pei's comments indicate a shift towards a more high-end price tier, it's unlikely the brand will go as far as nearly doubling the price for its core Indian audience. A sudden jump of Rs 45,000 could risk alienating Nothing's loyal community, which has come to expect a balance of design, innovation, and affordability.A more probable scenario would place the Indian price closer to Rs 60,000 to Rs 65,000, positioning the Phone 3 as a direct rival to recent premium mid-range entries like Google's Pixel 9a (Rs 49,999) and Apple's iPhone 16e (Rs 59,900). Should Nothing opt for this more strategic pricing, the Phone 3 could hit the sweet spot, offering flagship-grade features without straying into ultra-premium territory.

The Morning After: Our verdict on the Switch 2

You forget how much of a hit, how much of a turnaround, the Nintendo Switch turned out to be. After the major wobble (and baffling form factor) of the Wii U, Nintendo came back with a hybrid console that would replace and fuse its handheld and home console lineages. The console had no right being as playable (and enjoyable) as it was. Now, finally, its successor has landed . And for once, Nintendo's calling its new console a sequel. Nintendo took the best features from the original and upgraded nearly all of them. The major upgrades in hardware include a bigger 7.9-inch LCD screen, a more mature design that feels more solid and significantly upgraded performance and power. The only major drawback is battery life. Nintendo says it should provide between 2 and 6.5 hours of runtime on a single charge, but that depends on how resource-intensive your games are. According to Sam Rutherford's review testing: 'In Mario Kart World , the Switch 2 lasted two hours and 23 minutes, which is on the lower end of Nintendo's official estimate. Meanwhile, in the NS2 edition of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild , the console fared a bit better with a time of 2:56.' Compared to the OLED Switch's battery life, it's a reduction, but it's also equivalent to other high-powered handhelds, like the ROG Ally X and Steam Deck. Check out our full review (and perhaps our guide to the best games on the original Switch — because backward compatibility)., — Mat Smith Get Engadget's newsletter delivered direct to your inbox. Nothing CEO Carl Pei has been teasing this news since April, but now it's official: You might actually be able to buy the company's next flagship phone. The Nothing Phone 3 will be available to purchase from Amazon or directly from the company. Until now, only the Phone 2 has made it to general sale in the US. For the other models (including the very impressive Phone 3a), users would have to buy a unit via a beta program, which has no after-sale support. Any caveats? Well, there will be no carrier discount. The Phone 3 will support 4G and 5G with AT&T and T-Mobile. While there's no explicit support for Verizon, the Phone 2 worked well with its network, so that'll probably be the case with the third phone. How much? There's no official US price yet. Pei recently said it would cost £800 in the UK at launch, which would translate to around $1,080 in US dollars. Continue reading. Infinite Machine made waves with its retro-futuristic P1 electric bike, and now it's back with the Olto. Its new e-bike boasts 40 miles of range and a top speed of 33 mph, with a 20 mph limit while riding in the bike lane. Just like the P1, the Olto e-bike looks both futuristic and retro, (like a transformer that turns into a vape.) What's notable is it can carry two riders at the same time, and you can add accessories, like child carriers. Continue reading.
