According to several media reports, a legal fight started between the Maran brothers following DMK MP and former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran issuing a legal notice against his elder brother Kalanithi over alleged financial irregularities. The management of the Sun TV issued a statement claiming the dispute originated 22 years ago when the company was privately held. Kalanithi Maran is the pillar behind Sun TV and his wife Kavery Kalanithi is the backbone and the driving force of the company. Lets know about Kavery Kalanithi. Who is Kavery Kalanithi? Kavery Kalanithi is Kalanithi Maran's wife. She looks after the overseas content of Sun TV. Kalanithi started Sun TV Network in the year 1993. Currently, the media house runs as many as 37 channels, reaching more than 140 million homes across India. In June 2024, Sun TV expanded its reach by launching a Hindi general entertainment channel – Sun Neo. Kavery is the Executive Director at Sun TV Network and oversees content. Kavery assumed leadership of Sun TV in 1993, expanding its reach throughout India. In a Business Today interview, she discussed her contributions to the company. Highest-Paid Executive Director Notably, Kavery Kalanithi is one of the highest-paid executive directors in the country. She always focuses on extending Sun TV's viewership beyond South. And because of her leadership, the network has a presence in Marathi and Bengali as well. Under her leadership, the network made major investments in Hindi-speaking content. There was wedding speculation around Rajinikanth's nephew, music composer-singer Anirudh Ravichander, and businesswoman and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SH) owner Kavya Maran. The composer, who has given hit songs to films like Jailer, Jawan, Petta, Vikram, Devara and Leo among others, had a cryptic response to the rumours. Ravichander responded to the ongoing claims about his wedding in a post on his X handle. 'Marriage ah? lol .. Chill out guys…please stop spreading rumours (sic),' the singer wrote. The reports went viral on the internet after a Reddit post claimed that the singer is tying the knot with Maran, who is the daughter of Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran. The Reddit post read, 'It is being speculated that music composer Anirudh Ravichander and Kavya Maran – daughter of Sun TV's Kalanithi Maran and owner of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) IPL team – are in a relationship. Reports suggest that superstar Rajinikanth has personally spoken to Kalanithi Maran about their relationship, leading to expectations that the couple may tie the knot soon (sic).' Earlier, Anirudh was rumoured to be in a relationship with actor Keerthy Suresh, with many speculations around their possible marriage in 2023. But, both of them strongly turned down the reports. In fact, in 2024, Keerthy Suresh tied the knot with her long-time boyfriend Antony Thattil in December, last year. Anirudh is the son of actor Ravi Raghavendra and classical dancer Lakshmi. Retro movie box office verdict: Suriya's Retro, which hit the screens on May 1, opened to a good response at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews. The action drama earned Rs 32 crore worldwide on the first day. It then witnessed some growth over the weekend before dipping on the weekdays. The film's run is now over and the box office verdict is out. Is Suriya's Retro a hit or a flop? Suriya, who suffered a setback when Kanguva bombed at the box office, tried to revive his career with Retro. The film created a reasonable amount of buzz among fans as it marked his maiden collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj. Now, the film's verdict is out. According to Manobala Vijayabalan, a trade analyst, the flick grossed Rs 110 crore at the worldwide box office in its full run. 'Retro grossed around ₹110 cr. The film is an average to hit venture when compared to its low budget. The story was made for a specific set of audience with old fashioned backdrop, hence the figures are low compared to the expectation,' Retro was shot on a budget of around Rs 60 crore. It needed to gross Rs 120 crore or more globally to emerge as a success but this did not happen. Its lifetime haul is comparable to that of Kanguva. The Siva-directed action drama, which was filmed on a budget of Rs 350 crore, earned around Rs 100 crore in its full run and ended up being a disaster. Retro has also failed to match the collection of Petta. Karthik's first film with the legendary Rajinikanth grossed Rs 250 crore at the box office despite facing competition from Ajith Kumar's Viswasam. Retro received mixed reviews with critics lauding the performances but panning the execution. The mixed word-of-mouth affected the film over the weekdays. According to Sacnilk, a trade website, it witnessed a drop of 58% in India on the first Monday itself and things became worse thereafter. Retro also faced competition from HIT 3, which was released on the same day and opened to a good in the Telugu states. The investigative action thriller earned Rs 38 crore on the first day worldwide. About Retro Retro is a romantic action drama directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The film revolves around a gangster who shuns his violent ways on his wife's request. Retro features Suriya and Pooja Hegde as the lead pair. Santhosh Narayanan is the music composer.
