PIA resumes Lahore-Paris flights after 5 years

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) resumed on Wednesday direct flights from Lahore to Paris after a gap of five years. The airline had announced resumption of of Lahore-Paris flights last month. The first weekly flight from Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport to Paris departed at 12 noon. A total of 276 passengers boarded the flight PK-733. The PIA is already operating two weekly flights from Islamabad to Paris. For this flight, a Boeing 777 aircraft was operated, which had recently undergone an interior refurbishment to enhance passenger comfort, according to the PIA. To mark the resumption of PIA's Paris-bound flights, a ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal International Airport, during which a cake was also cut. Passengers were seen off by PIA Chief Executive Officer Air Vice Marshal Aamir Hayat, Chief Operating Officer Khurram Mushtaq, Head of Mission at the French Embassy Franck Aubrée, and other senior aviation officials. According to the PIA, resumption of the route after five years is expected to provide travel convenience to passengers while it will also boost foreign exchange earnings. The development comes after the PIA restarted flight operations between Islamabad and Paris in January this year, following the European Union's removal of restrictions on the carrier. In November 2024, the European Commission and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) lifted the suspension on the PIA, which had taken place back in 2020 after a PIA plane crash in Karachi in 2020 killed nearly 100, followed by a scandal over pilot licenses.

Nightmare for Air India Dreamliner as 5 international flights cancelled today

At least five Air India international flights- all Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner – were cancelled on Tuesday, days after the London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on June 12, killing 241 passengers and crew. Air India said on Tuesday its flight from Ahmedabad to Gatwick in London has been cancelled due to the unavailability of the aircraft, resulting from airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks. The airline denied claims that the flight has been cancelled due to any technical snag. Regretting the inconvenience caused to passengers, the airline said alternative arrangements have been made to fly them to their destination. It said hotel accommodation was being provided, and refunds on cancellations or complimentary rescheduling was also being offered if opted by the passengers Paris-bound Air India flight 143 from Delhi was also cancelled on Tuesday after pre-flight checks identified an issue, which was currently being addressed, an Air India spokesperson confirmed. Meanwhile, an Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai, with a scheduled stop in Kolkata, was grounded on Tuesday after a technical issue was suspected during a routine post-landing inspection. All passengers were safely deplaned, and some have been accommodated in a hotel in Kolkata. The termination led to chaotic scenes at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata as the 211 passengers on the Boeing 777-200 LR tried to convince officials to let them reach their destination at the earliest. There were 228 people on board the aircraft, including pilots and crew. The flight was originally scheduled to depart to Mumbai from Kolkata at 2am on Tuesday. Usually, Air India flies directly to Mumbai from San Francisco, but the ongoing geopolitical events, including the closure of Pakistani airspace, have led AI to reroute it and take a 'technical halt' in Kolkata. Flight AI180 landed in Kolkata at the scheduled time of 12.45am, even though it took off one hour late from San Francisco. Earlier in the day, an IndiGo flight 6E 2706, which was travelling from Muscat to Delhi with a layover at Kochi, made an emergency landing at Nagpur airport on Tuesday after a bomb threat was received. "Flight AI143 from Delhi to Paris of 17 June has been cancelled. The mandatory pre-flight checks identified an issue which is being presently addressed. However, in view of the flight coming under the restrictions on night operations at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, the said flight has been cancelled," Air India Spokesperson said. — ANI (@ANI) The Tata-owned airlines said that they were "providing hotel accommodation and also offering full refunds on cancellations or complimentary rescheduling if opted by the passengers". Just a few hours ago, the aviation company cancelled a flight from Ahmedabad to London's Gatwick Airport. The airline, however, clarified the reason behind the cancellation of its Ahmedabad–Gatwick flight AI159, denying rumours of a technical fault. In a statement, the airline said: "Flight AI159 from Ahmedabad to Gatwick has been cancelled today due to the unavailability of the aircraft, resulting from airspace restrictions and additional precautionary checks, leading to longer than usual turnaround of aircraft, and not due to any technical snag as claimed." The flight was cancelled just two days after a deadly crash involving the same route. On June 12, Air India Flight AI171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 of the 242 people onboard, as well as several on the ground. AI-159 is now the renamed code for AI-171. As flight operations continue to face disruptions, the Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has summoned an urgent virtual meeting with Air India and Air India Express officials.
