PS5 is more profitable than all other PlayStation consoles combined
Despite being a stunted console generation, the PS5 is Sony's most profitable piece of gaming hardware, and by a considerable margin. Between the lack of games which push the hardware and the unfufilled promises around its technical capabilities, the PlayStation 5 era might go down as the worst console generation ever. The problems have been amplified by Sony's push towards live service games, most of which have either been cancelled or removed from existence – leading to large gaps in the release cycle, amongst Sony's first party studios. Sadly, while the PlayStation 5 has been disappointing when it comes to actual games, it's easily Sony's most profitable console ever. As revealed in the company's business meeting earlier this week, and highlighted by analyst Daniel Ahmad, the PlayStation 5 generation has earned Sony $13 billion (£9.6 billion) in profits since the console launched in November 2020. When you tally up the profits of prior generations, this is higher than all of Sony's prior consoles combined. The original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 took in $3 billion and $2 billion, respectively, while the PlayStation 3 lost Sony $4 billion, and the PlayStation 4 gave the company a $9 billion boost. When tallied together, including the losses, it comes to around $10 billion in cumulative profits. Another slide in Sony's presentation breaks down where the PlayStation 5's profits are coming from, with a key part being the increase in spend across services like PlayStation Plus and 'game content'. Sony held its Business Segment Meeting today. Here are some key takeaways regarding its PlayStation business. The PS5 generation has generated $13 billion in profits. This is compared to the $10 billion cumulative profit generated during the PS1-PS4 generation (RIP PS3). — Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) June 13, 2025 When compared to the PlayStation 4 generation, the average life-to-date spend per PlayStation 5 console on content (physical and digital games, and add-ons) has increased by 21%. More Trending Spending on services, which includes PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Network, has increased by 63%, while peripheral spend has jumped up 27%. As part of these service profits, Sony states 38% of PlayStation Plus subscribers are now paying for the Premium or Extra tiers, up from 30% two years ago. This is rather discouraging, because it means Sony has little incentive to change its current strategy – even as it continues to fumble with games like Concord and Marathon, the latter of which was recently delayed indefinitely. The big problem for Sony might be when it comes to convincing players to jump to the inevitable PlayStation 6, which Sony recently stated is 'top of mind' at the company. 3 new PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (June 20-22)
More and more I am finding myself getting more excited for the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium game announcements than the Essential ones. It always varies, but months like this are some of my favorites. We are getting treated to a day one release, a ton of sleeper hits that didn't get enough attention, and one influential PS2 classic that is great to have available as a PS5 game. Today also just so happens to be the first day of summer, so what better time than now to close the curtains, crank up the AC, and play some great games courtesy of PS Plus? This is my hand-picked selection of PlayStation Plus games you need to play this weekend. FBC: Firebreak We knew FBC: Firebreak would be a day one addition to PS Plus for a while, and it is finally here. Coming from Remedy, and set in the Control universe, FBC: Firebreak is a big departure from the studio's other work. Instead of a single player third-person shooter, this is a multiplayer co-op FPS a bit in the style of Left 4 Dead, only here you can only team up in groups of three. The game is set in The Oldest House where you will take on the Hiss and plenty of strange and unexpected challenges, such as fighting a giant sticky note monster. There are a ton of options for how long rounds take and how challenging they are, plus a nice set of unlockables and perks to unlock over time. Recommended Videos FBC: Firebreak is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes Before the Suikoden remasters were even announced, original creator Yoshitaka Murayama founded a new team to create a spiritual successor. The result is the fantastic throwback JRPG called Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes. The story takes place in a fantasy world called Allraan amidst an ongoing war led by the Galdean Empire. The two main characters go on an epic quest across the entire world to find allies of all kinds. As you might guess from the title, there are over 100 in total to find, but you will need to go out of your way to find most of them. Its turn-based battles are gripping, but slightly bogged down by a strict adherence to tradition. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC. Deus Ex: The Conspiracy All modern immersive sim games owe some debt to Deus Ex for showing the potential of such a malleable game design ethos. Set in the distant future of 2052, you play as JC Denton in a world rife with terrorism, plagues, and rampant drug and nanotechnology use. Despite easily seeing its age in the visuals and some clunky controls, the amount of player freedom still feels surprising. You can approach any mission in dozens of ways using your skills, tech, traversal methods, and exploiting the game's systems. This isn't a game to play if you are looking for solid combat, but is a fantastic story and deeply rewarding if you experiment with all the tools it gives you. Deus Ex: The Conspiracy is available now on PS4, PS5, and PC.

Rockstar removes PS Plus requirement for GTA Online on PS4 & PS5
Source: Rockstar Games PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players can temporarily play GTA Online without an active PlayStation Plus subscription for a short time. Rockstar and Sony have lifted the PS Plus requirement temporarily as part of the new Money Fronts update celebration, granting more players entry into Los Santos and a taste of the latest features. The free period will expire on July 1. Free GTA Online access now open to everybody on PlayStation — TezFunz2 (@TezFunz2) The PS Plus paywall for GTA Online has been dropped on both PS4 and PS5, so that everybody, whether subscribed to PS Plus or not, can play the game's online universe. This offer coincides with the release of Money Fronts , a new update that brings new criminal businesses, cars, and missions designed to further enrich the player's money-generating opportunities in the game. Rockstar has employed the same access events before, on the occasions of big content drops, to bring back lapsed players or bring in new players. While some of these events have run for a weekend, this one is running for two weeks until July 1. Throughout these two weeks, non-PS Plus players can experience GTA Online in its entirety, purchase new vehicles, engage in jobs, and enjoy community events taking place throughout Los Santos. Why Rockstar is doing this and what players will be getting This type of move is in line with Rockstar and Sony's wider strategy to promote player interest whenever a new update drops. GTA V keeps selling millions of copies each quarter, and for numerous new or casual gamers, the PS Plus subscription can act as a barrier to getting a taste of GTA Online. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo By lowering that barrier temporarily, Rockstar makes more people experience the latest updates and maybe stay engaged in the long run. Next week, an additional six vehicles will be included in the game as part of the Money Fronts update, and everyone, subscribed and non-subscribed alike, will have access to them if they play inside this timeframe. Meanwhile, existing PS Plus subscribers also have access to GTA III via the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog under the Extra and Premium plans. With Money Fronts rolling out and free access now available, there's never been a better time to revisit or try GTA Online on PlayStation. Whether you're a returning criminal or just getting started, the streets of Los Santos are open, no subscription required. ‘Rematch' Devs Are Trying To Get Crossplay Working ASAP, Apologize For It Not Being There At Launch
Improving Rematch's slide tackle is on the to-do list for Sloclap. But first, bug fixes and ... More crossplay. Rematch, the skill-based action soccer game from Absolver and Sifu studio Sloclap, is off to a strong start. At the time of writing, it has reached more than 92,000 concurrent players on Steam alone on its launch day. It's also available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. But there's a significant feature missing from the game as things stand: crossplay. Sloclap said in a statement that it did its "utmost" to have crossplay ready by launch, but it ran into "unforeseen technical complexities which prevented us from having this feature ready in time." The studio added that it should have been more forthcoming about crossplay not being ready in time for launch. It apologized "for the inconvenience and frustration it caused to some of our players." Sloclap has been working hard to update and optimize Rematch – it deployed two patches during the early access period. But alongside fixing bugs, Sloclap says "crossplay is our absolute highest priority." The studio said: FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder "We're committed to delivering this feature swiftly, and we'll share a more precise deadline as soon as possible. We already have a basic working version from a technical standpoint, but we need to implement the relevant interfaces, before debugging and polishing it, and finally passing console certifications successfully – all this takes time but we are doing our best to move forward quickly." Here's hoping that's resolved soon. In fairness, Sloclap has a small team and this is the first time it's offering crossplay in one of its games, so this is a new challenge for it to solve. There are other, perhaps more pressing technical issues that Sloclap is trying to resolve such as the lag, stuttering and frame drops that some players are dealing with. "Our team is currently implementing performance optimizations and settings adjustments to significantly improve stability," the studio says. "Likewise, we are continuously working on improving server stability to bring you a smoother gameplay experience across the board." Along with those problems, Sloclap is tackling issues including server and client desync, crashes, game freezes after goals and menu lockouts. It plans to deploy regular hotfixes and patches in the coming weeks to attempt to resolve those, all the while adding more features. Fixing technical problems should be the top priority for Rematch, but there are some interesting features and updates in the pipeline. In the coming months, Sloclap plans to improve slide tackles, goalkeeper mechanics, dribbling and wall contact (like in Rocket League, the ball doesn't go out of bounds and is kept in play by a barrier). Test servers are on the way to help Sloclap trial new features and other updates in a live environment. Tournament and club creation systems are in the pipeline, along with more social features and a leaderboard system for players above Elite ranking. You can expect some updates for casual play too, such as more quick play modes and AI-controlled bots for you to practice with. Again, Sloclap isn't a huge studio, so it'll be quite some time before it can add all of these. You might have to wait until next year for some of them. But here's hoping the studio can at least take care of the technical issues as soon as possible. There's clearly a large audience for Rematch, and it would be nice to have a viable alternative for the likes of EA Sports FC without game-breaking bugs getting in the way.
