Matt O'Riley Napoli transfer bid as Brighton talks underway

AS Roma were yesterday credited with an interest while Atalanta and Atletico Madrid both made offers while he was still a Celtic player. It was claimed last month that O'Riley was attracting further interest from around Europe's top leagues. Now, Sky Sports News are reporting Napoli have submitted £25.6 million for the 24-year-old. Talks are set to be ongoing between the two clubs as the Premier League side negotiate for the sort of package they would be looking for. O'Riley is understood to be seen to have a future at Brighton but they're also open to selling if their valuation is met. Read more: If the Serie A champions are successful in their attempts to sign him, they would team him up with Scotland international midfielders Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour as well as former Manchester City superstar Kevin de Bruyne. O'Riley recently revealed his frustrations at not being used in his favoured number 8 role by manager Fabian Hurzeler. He said: 'I'm best at the number 8 position, where I can go box to box. I've only played two games there, otherwise I've been used as a winger, false number 9 or something else. 'It makes it difficult to show off when you play a position you're not completely happy with. 'I'm just giving my opinion. I can play better for the team if I play the number 8 position, but I can play well in other positions."

Matt O'Riley Napoli transfer bid as Brighton talks underway

O'Riley has only spent one season with the Seagulls following his £30million switch from the Hoops last summer but it is thought he could be on the move again. The exact windfall Matt O'Riley could land Celtic if he joins Napoli as Brighton transfer battle begins

A surge in interest has emerged in the midfielder from Italy and England as the Glasgow giants watch on Celtic looks set for a bumper payday if Matt O'Riley makes a move to Napoli after a bid was reportedly made by the Italian champions. The Hoops have already seen the Parkhead coffers boosted this summer by a sell-on windfall after Jeremie Frimpong 's move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen. And the extra cash looks set to flood into Celtic Park after Napoli made their move for the Danish international. Sky Sports report that that the Serie A winners have tabled a £25.6million (€30million) offer to the Premier League side just 12 months on from his £25million Scottish Premiership exit. It is claimed that talks are ongoing over the "package" the Seagulls would receive for O'Riley - who is still seen as "an important part of their project". However, it is claimed they will "entertain offers" if "they meet their valuation" with Atalanta and Roma among the midfielder's admirers, while Premier League sides are also said to be monitoring the 24-year-old's status. It is understood that Celtic hold a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the deal - which is Napoli's offer was accepted would see just over £2.5million head to Glasgow's east end. But given the offer is the same Brighton paid for the Denmark star, it's likely the fee – and therefore sell-on clause – will climb. O'Riley endured an injury-hampered debut campaign at the AMEX Stadium but showed flashes of his best form in the final weeks of the season. But the man himself has bemoaned the fact he's been unable to play in his favoured position under head coach Fabian Hurzeler - with Georginio Rutter deployed in the playmaker role. Speaking in his homeland, the Denmark international said: "I am not completely happy, and I am just giving my opinion. 'It makes it difficult to show off when you play a position you are not completely happy with. I can play better for the team if I play the number eight position, but I can play well in other positions. "You can say it in a way that is not aggressive. If you are honest with another person, you don't lose anything. The coach can always say he doesn't agree." Celtic hero Matt O'Riley ‘subject of shock transfer bid' 12 months on from big move BUT Hoops won't get major windfall

The Parkhead men inserted a clause on the profit of any deal into the small print of last August's £25m move to Brighton - but that will be limited after a first season on the South Coast which never quite got off the ground. 2 Matt O'Riley of Brighton Credit: PA 2 Matt O'Riley didn't always start in his first season at Brighton Credit: Alamy O'Riley, you will recall, sustained a nasty injury in a shocking challenge in his very first match with the Seagulls. His dream move turned into a nightmare just days following his arrival after he was struck down with a horror injury just EIGHT minutes into his debut. He was thrown in from the start in the EFL Cup against Crawley Town in August and was forced off after being on the receiving end of a nasty challenge from Crawley's Jay Williams. That cost him valuable time and when all is said and done the Denmark cap started just 11 matches for his new club last season, scoring twice. That hasn't deterred Napoli, though, who clearly have a keen eye on the Scottish market after the successful recruitment of Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour. We told you last month how the player could be on the move again. The Italian champs have added Kevin de Bruyne too - and now O'Riley could be the fourth member of the group, according to a report from Sky Sports. Reporter Lyall Thomas wrote: "Brighton have received a €30m [just over £25m] offer from Napoli for Matt O'Riley. "Still considered important to the Brighton project but will entertain offers that meet their valuation." Serie A rivals Roma are also credited with an interest in the star, who has four years to run on his five-year deal at the club. Matt O'Riley limps off just minutes into Brighton debut after horror Crawley tackle O'Riley attracted interest from the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Atalanta and Roma before Brighton swooped in. Brighton 'ready to negotiate' Matt O'Riley transfer exit

It's claimed the Premier League club will listen to offers for the former Celtic player during the summer window. O'Riley, 24, left Celtic last summer for a fee in the region of £25m but struggled to cement a position in the Brighton team. The midfielder played 21 times in the league for Brighton last season, with an injury seeing him ruled out of the first 10 matches of the campaign. The four-time Denmark cap has now been linked with a departure from Brighton to join Serie A side Roma. Il Messaggero reports that Roma are interested in a swoop for the midfielder this summer, having missed out on him last year. New manager Gian Piero Gasperini had liked O'Riley when he was at Atalanta and had wanted to sign O'Riley before the Premier League interest. It's claimed the coach is still keen on O'Riley with reports Brighton do not view O'Riley as a key player for the new season and are ready to discuss a move and Roma are hopeful of striking a deal to sign the Denmark internationalist. Read more: O'Riley recently admitted he is "not completely happy" with his position at Brighton as he admitted he would prefer to play in a different role under Fabian Hurzeler. "I am not completely happy, and I am just giving my opinion,' he said, relating to where he plays on the pitch under Hurzeler. 'It makes it difficult to show off when you play a position you are not completely happy with. I can play better for the team if I play the number 8 position, but I can play well in other positions. "You can say it in a way that is not aggressive. If you are honest with another person, you don't lose anything. 'The coach can always say he doesn't agree."
