Karnal: KUK inks pact with board of apprenticeship training Kanpur

Under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), students are offered apprenticeship training. (HT photo for representation) On behalf of Kurukshetra University, registrar Virender Pal and Board of Apprenticeship Training deputy director Sandeep Kumar, signed the MoU. Sachdeva said that as a part of this agreement, Kurukshetra University and the Board of Apprenticeship Training (Northern Region), Kanpur have agreed in principle to implement the apprenticeship component of the AEDP (Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme) for undergraduate programmes such as BCA, BCom (Professional), Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), and BSc LLT, in accordance with UGC guidelines. He also highlighted the vital role of KU Technology Incubation Centre and Centre For Entrepreneurship and further said that internship programmes aligned with NEP-2020 have been launched to empower learners with real-world skills, making them self-reliant. Under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), students are offered apprenticeship training.

KESUMA, Penang to partner on talent pipeline for chip design, high-tech sectors
GEORGE TOWN: The Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) is finalising a strategic collaboration with the Penang government to strengthen the local talent pipeline by producing more engineers through the Penang Chip Design Academy (PCDA). Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said the academy, established by the state government, is aimed at advancing Penang's semiconductor and high-tech sectors, with KESUMA poised to add value to the initiative. 'PCDA was created to develop human capital, young people and workers, for the semiconductor and high-tech industries. 'KESUMA wants to explore how we can support the state's skill training programmes to drive this sector forward,' he told reporters after launching the National Training Week (NTW) 2025 Northern Region roadshow here today. Penang launched the academy last year as part of efforts to strengthen integrated circuit (IC) design and digital development, aligning with the state's plans to build a thriving IC design ecosystem and digital economy hub. Sim also announced a strategic partnership between the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) under the Advanced Technology Meister Programme (ATMP). 'Through this initiative, we are introducing a matching grant programme to help local industries enhance workforce skills in advanced technology,' he said. Employers will be able to co-develop training programmes with learning institutions of their choice, supported by funding from both HRD Corp via its levy system, as well as NCIA under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12). Sims aid the initiative reflects the government's commitment to building a highly skilled workforce and achieving the national target of 30 per cent skilled labour by 2030. In a separate announcement, KESUMA also approved the implementation of a skills enhancement programme under the Focused Impact Training Initiative (FITI) for fishing families and local communities in South Penang. The programme will benefit 420 participants through courses such as helmsman training, site safety supervision, computer applications and safety officer certification. 'The goal is to ensure that the fishing community is not left behind in economic progress brought by projects such as Silicon Island,' Sim said.

KTMB services disrupted by cable thefts yet again
The Northern Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS) were delayed due to the cable thefts. PETALING JAYA : Cable theft involving the signalling and communication systems on three Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad's (KTMB) northern routes today caused disruption and train delays of more than 60 minutes for both the Northern Komuter and Electric Train Service (ETS). The affected locations were the Tapah Road-Sungkai (Km250.5) route with 200 metres of cable stolen, Kamunting-Bukit Merah-Bagan Serai (Km87.25) route with 110 metres stolen, and Simpang Ampat-Bukit Mertajam (Km15.5) route with 40 metres affected, Bernama reported. Trains were delayed by 80 to 115 minutes. The services affected were EP9172 (KL Sentral- Butterworth), EG9321 (Butterworth-Segamat), EX9107 (Butterworth-KL Sentral), EX9207 (Padang Besar-KL Sentral), and EG9420 (Segamat-Padang Besar). In addition, the Northern KTM Komuter service on the Ipoh-Butterworth-Ipoh route was delayed by 30 minutes. KTMB said early notifications of the disruptions were sent to passengers via SMS and KTMB's official social media platforms. KTMB chief operating officer Zain Mat Taha said 45 cases of cable theft have been recorded in the northern sector from January to May this year. KTMB has announced a plan to upgrade its signalling network at a cost of RM12.8 million annually over the next three years, with a focus on hotspot areas. They plan to install manhole covers with special locking mechanisms at 21 locations, introduce CCTV cameras and drones, and have anti-climb security fencing. KTMB auxiliary police, with the help of police, will intensify patrols in hotspot areas to curb theft. KTMB incurred losses of RM1.28 million last year and RM162,000 as of March this year from these cable thefts.

Union power ministry to act on Haryana's solar house proposal
Union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday lauded Haryana's proposal to build solar houses in villages and assured that the power ministry will move forward with the idea, a government spokesperson said. The suggestion was put forth by Haryana energy minister Anil Vij during the regional power ministers' conference (Northern Region), attended by representatives from eight states and UTs. Vij said the state is committed to promoting solar energy and aims to make Haryana self-reliant in electricity. A pilot project to set up solar houses is already underway, and if successful, it will be expanded across rural areas to ensure uninterrupted daytime power for farmers. Vij said the state government is making continuous efforts to promote solar energy so that Haryana becomes self-sufficient in electricity. He said department of new and renewable energy will construct solar houses in villages to ensure daytime electricity supply to farmers, enabling them to irrigate their fields and meet their power needs without depending on other sources. He also proposed a policy to regulate infrastructure such as poles and transmission lines over agricultural fields and residential areas. Vij recommended underground cabling in congested zones and called for a technical feasibility study to establish safety standards. Stressing the threat of cyber-attacks, Vij urged the Centre to frame a national cyber security policy for the power sector. Additional chief secretary of Haryana's energy department, AK Singh said that during the May 2025 conflict with Pakistan, web portals of UHBVN and DHBVN companies were targeted by hackers.
