Neil Nitin Mukesh makes SHOCING revelations about the industry, says,' I was told my career was over after…' In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood, the career trajectory of an actor depends on many factors. While some feel that it's the actor's luck, others feel it is also bias and favoritism that may make or break an actor's career. The dazzling industry is unfair and doesn't work the same way for everyone. While one actor would keep getting new projects even after delivering back-to-back flops. Another actor may not be given enough chances after failing at the box office once or twice. Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh recently addressed this issue in an interview and spoke about the favoritism that prevails in the industry. Neil Nitin Mukesh is a celebrated actor who made his debut in 2007 with Sriram Raghavan's film Johnny Gaddar. The thriller hit gold at the box office, and Neil, with his strong performance, quickly captivated everyone's attention. Another film that rose him to fame was Kabir Khan's New York. The film also featured John and Katrina Kaif in the lead. Besides this, Neil has also appeared with Salman Khan in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which is also critically and commercially acclaimed. However, besides delivering some superhits, he doesn't feel that he has been given the right opportunities that other actors get, even after delivering multiple flops. Recently, in an interview, Neil openly shared that the industry's parameter of judging an actor's success is solely based on box office numbers. However, he is of the view that if an actor is playing a significant role but isn't in the lead, they will often be overshadowed. 'If I'm a part of a successful film, I deserve to be seen as part of that success. But the credit always goes to someone else,' he said. However, he also emphasises the double standards when it comes to films not making numbers at the box office. 'If a film doesn't do well, the blame falls on everyone involved, especially the actors. But when it succeeds, only a select few are celebrated,' he said. Speaking about the superhit success of New York, he emphasised that it wasn't just a John Abraham or Katrina Kaif film, it was a collective effort involving actors like Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Speaking of bias, he also said. 'Many actors give back-to-back flops and still get handed Rs 100 crore films for a comeback. But if two of my films don't work, people tell me to sit at home. They say my career is over. That's not fair,' Neil's remarks on industry reality talk about the harsh truth behind the dazzling world of Bollywood.

‘Stars get 11th Rs 100 crore budget film even after 10 flops,' says Neil Nitin Mukesh: ‘We are told your career is over after two flops'
Neil Nitin Mukesh started his career in the movies in 2007 with Sriram Raghavan's Johnny Gaddaar. Shortly after that, Neil appeared in some promising roles, most notably in Kabir Khan's New York, but in many of his interviews, Neil has expressed his displeasure about not being offered the right kind of opportunities. In a recent interview, Neil shared that in the case of many popular actors, they are presented many opportunities despite a dozen flops, but in his case, he was told his 'career is over' after just a couple of his films underperformed at the box office. In a chat on Varinder Chawla's YouTube channel, Neil shared that people in the industry evaluate an actor based on their box office success, and ignore the appreciation that their work gets. He also pointed out that even if an actor plays a significant role in a big budget film that is led by a star, the success of that film doesn't really help them. Neil's biggest success was Salman Khan-starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, directed by Sooraj Barjatya. 'Unfortunately, if you are a part of a big film and you are playing a significant part of that film… consider me a part of that success as well. But you will give the credit to someone else. If this film had flopped then it would be a fall for everyone involved. That's unfair,' he said. Neil Nitin Mukesh shared that one of his early successes, New York, starred John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and himself but the film didn't just belong to the three leads, it was a team effort. 'Like New York, it's not just John or mine or Katrina's film. It just doesn't belong to Kabir Khan, it's a collaborative effort. Everyone has put in hard work. All the actors, Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, it belongs to everyone. The producers, their conviction in us, it's a hit for everyone but if it's a flop, or it doesn't reach the numbers, the blame cones straight to the actors,' he said. 'I have seen a lot of big actors giving flops but they keep getting opportunities. But for us, if there are two flops in a row, they say you be at home now. This is the only unfair bit. Didn't he just give 10 flops? You have given him his 11th Rs 100 crore film to make a comeback but here, two films falter and you say career over. What do you mean career is over? Last Updated: With more than 11 flops in a 17-year career, he became one of Bollywood's most unsuccessful leading men. Yet, this hasn't dented his financial standing. Many Bollywood actors begin as child artists, but few manage to sustain their stardom. Neil Nitin Mukesh, born into a family of musical legends, is one such name. Despite a star-studded debut and backing from a powerful film lineage, he struggled to make a mark as a leading man. Still, his earnings and lifestyle today remain enviable. Neil was born to veteran playback singer Nitin Mukesh and is the grandson of the iconic singer Mukesh. His first brush with the big screen came in 1988 as a child actor in Vijay, where he shared scenes with Rajesh Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Hema Malini – a dream debut few can boast of. Years later, in 2007, Neil made his official Bollywood debut as a lead in Johnny Gaddaar. Though critically appreciated, the thriller failed commercially, collecting only Rs 5.68 crore. It marked the beginning of a series of box office disappointments. Over the next decade, Neil starred in films like Aa Dekhen Zara, Jail, Lafangey Parindey, 7 Khoon Maaf, and David. However, none helped cement his position as a bankable actor. Even roles in multi-starrers and big productions failed to boost his standing. His 2023 comeback attempt with Hisaab Barabar, opposite R. Madhavan, too went unnoticed. With more than 11 flops in a 17-year career, Neil became one of Bollywood's most unsuccessful leading men. Yet, this hasn't dented his financial standing. Stepping back from the mainstream industry, he redirected his efforts into business and production. Today, Neil Nitin Mukesh enjoys a net worth estimated at Rs 40 crore. He owns several high-end cars, premium watches, and luxurious properties. His production company and endorsements continue to generate impressive income, proving that he has successfully reinvented himself away from the spotlight. Neil married Rukmini Sahay in 2017, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Nurvi, in 2018. While he stays largely out of the public eye, Neil often shares glimpses of his personal life on social media, giving fans a peek into his family's glamorous yet grounded world. Neil Nitin Mukesh on the reason behind his weight loss; credits a project for his leaner avatar
Neil Nitin Mukesh Neil Nitin Mukesh has been making all the right noise for his weight loss and the leaner avatar. The actor credits his OTT projects and the roles that came his way which encouraged him to look perfect on screen. Especially, his last web show Hai Junoon in which he plays mentor to college kids. He says, 'When Hai Junoon came my way, it brought a real challenge — and with it, the perfect incentive. I knew I was about to be placed alongside a cast of incredibly fit, young actors in their mid-20s, with six-pack abs, backflipping, dancing, and singing like pros. And I thought to myself: 'What are they going to look up to in me if I don't level up?' That was the wake-up call. I needed to reinvent myself — not just physically, but completely — to stay relevant and bring something fresh to the screen. ' And how he went about it? 'I started working on my body, my energy, my styling — everything. I didn't want to be just another comeback; I wanted to shock the audience in a good way. I wanted them to say, 'This guy's back — and he's looking like it's the New York era again.' It was during the lockdown that Neil had gained weight and it all began with his first OTT project. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo 'Truth be told, when I was first offered Hisaab Barabar, I was heavier. We had just come out of the COVID lockdowns, and I was still regaining momentum with my training. The weight I had gained was mostly due to Bypass Road, which demanded a different look. Otherwise, I've always been quite fit, by God's grace.' Sharing about what behind creating the perfect look, Neil added, 'But post-COVID, I enjoyed those first 3–4 months a bit too much. When Hisaab Barabar landed, it gave me that push to start transforming again. I wanted to come back as someone different, and that's when Micky Mehta (his character) entered the picture. For that role, I had to look like an eccentric character — so I lost weight in a specific way for that vibe. Then came Hai Junoon, and the stakes felt higher. I wasn't just returning to the screen; I was stepping into the spotlight with a new generation of actors and a new audience. So, I focused deeply on my body language, styling, and overall presence. My stylist was outstanding. We worked tirelessly on the look. My director also gave great input on the hairstyle — it all came together beautifully. It's been a journey of rediscovery and reinvention. And Hai Junoon gave me that spark — to become not just relevant, but someone today's audience could look at and connect with all over again.'
