Senior citizen in Melaka claims trial to sexually assaulting teen

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A senior citizen was charged in the Ayer Keroh sessions court today with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl two years ago. Utusan Malaysia reported that Jaafar Taib, 70, pleaded not guilty before judge Haderiah Siri. He was charged with committing the offence at a house in Klebang, Melaka Tengah, at around 2pm in early February 2023. The charge was made under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for sexual assault, which provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and a whipping upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nazrin Ali Rahim did not propose bail, but suggested RM20,000 and other additional conditions should the court exercise its discretion to offer any. Lawyer Kent Tan, representing the accused, pleaded for a lower amount, saying his client had heart disease, diabetes, and five children. The judge set bail at RM10,000 with one surety, as well as the additional conditions that the accused surrender his passport to the court, report once a month to a police station, and refrain from disturbing the victim and witnesses. The court set July 16 for re-mention of the case and the handover of documents.

Teacher claims trial to molesting student in dorm warden's room

(File pic) PETALING JAYA : A 38-year-old teacher at an Islamic secondary school in Jasin, Melaka, has been charged with molesting a male student in the dormitory warden's room last week. Aiezad Asni, 38, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Melaka sessions court judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah, Utusan Malaysia reported. Aiezad was charged with committing physical sexual assault on the victim, 15, by rubbing the student's private part for sexual purposes. He is accused of committing the offence at 5am in the dormitory warden's room of the school on May 23. The charge framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 is punishable by up to 20 years in jail and whipping if convicted. Deputy public prosecutor Nazrin Ali Rahim did not offer bail but suggested that the court fix the amount at RM30,000 if it wished to grant bail. Nazrin also urged the court to set additional conditions, such as requiring the accused to surrender his passport. Lawyer Farriz Minarwan Basaruddin pleaded for a lower bail amount, saying his client had a family to look after and had been transferred to the district education office since Wednesday. The judge allowed Aiezad to post bail at RM9,000 and imposed the additional conditions requested by the prosecution. She fixed July 15 for case mention.
