Tripura govt gives jobs to kin of 18 people killed in political violence before 2018
The Tripura government has provided jobs to 18 people whose family members were killed in political violence in the state before 2018, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath said in Agartala on Saturday. The minister said 39 petitions were submitted to the scrutiny committee, and 18 people were offered jobs in various departments. Nath is the chairman of the scrutiny committee, which also comprises the law secretary, secretary of information and cultural affairs, an inspector general of police, and the additional secretary of the home department. 'Another meeting of the committee was held on June 19. We got eight more petitions, and five of the names were recommended. We are reviewing the remaining petitions,' the minister told reporters at the Civil Secretariat. 'We give due respect to democracy. We feel that supporting the family members of those who were killed in political violence is our moral duty. Our government has not shown any discrimination on the basis of political affiliations in this case,' he said. The BJP-led coalition government first came to power in the state in 2018, unseating the erstwhile CPI(M)-led Left Front government which had ruled the state for 25 consecutive years. Criticising the previous government, Nath said, 'Several political murders happened before 2018 during the earlier government's tenure. Murders and political violence are not healthy for democracy. If it happens, it is a failure and embarrassment for shame for the government'. He, however, could not give an exact figure of the political murders that purportedly occurred prior to 2018. 'Petitions received are of cases from different years like 1983, 1987, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1998,1981, 2015, 2016, 2017…,' he said. Nath added that those who wish to apply under the scheme should collect forms from the sub-divisional magistrates' offices. These applications will be assessed by the committee based on inputs shared by district magistrates and superintendents of police. 'If the names are approved by the committee, it will be forwarded to the Finance Department, and based on vacancies in different departments, they will be given jobs,' he added.

Scientists reach out to nearly 2L farmers through Krishi Sankalp drive in Tripura
Agartala: Tripura has achieved remarkable success in the fortnight-long Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), which concluded on Thursday. Agriculture scientists and extension workers engaged with 1.95 lakh farmers, including 34% women, through 873 meetings held across 956 villages, minister for agriculture and farmers' welfare Ratan Lal Nath said on Friday. Talking to the media, Nath said scientists interacted with farmers and provided tips on increasing crop yields, reducing production costs, adopting natural and climate-resilient farming, improving sustainable marketing, and enhancing processing and value addition of agricultural products. "The success of VKSA in Tripura is the highest recorded in the northeast. The department has identified standout farmers whose success stories serve as inspiration nationwide. Fish cultivators, floriculturists, paddy growers, and vegetable farmers have been earning substantial incomes through agriculture, despite holding impressive degrees. Some have amassed significant wealth through farming," Nath said. He said three districts and 30 blocks in Tripura are now self-sufficient in paddy cultivation. However, the state remains short by 1.5 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy. "For the current Kharif season, we aim to produce at least one lakh MT more than last year. In the next two seasons, Tripura is expected to become self-sufficient in food grain production," he added. Tripura's farmers have been exporting pineapple, scented lemon, lotus, aromatic rice, and spices for the last seven years. The government continues to support them in adopting modern agricultural techniques to improve yields while also promoting organic farming. Additionally, 2.83 lakh farmers have received Rs 843 crore under PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, while Rs 1,750 crore was disbursed under PM Fasal Bima Yojana. Prohibitory orders imposed in Assam's Dhubri after 'breach of peace' amid communal tensions
Prohibitory orders were imposed in Assam's Dhubri town following communal tensions, officials said. Demonstrations were held in the town on Monday to protest the alleged throwing of meat near a temple. Police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control, they said. Issuing an order under section 163 of BNSS, District Magistrate Dibakar Nath on Monday said the restrictions shall come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further order. "It has been brought to my notice that there is a likelihood of breach of peace and public tranquillity in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Dhubri Police Station due to communal tension, riot risk, violent protests, etc," he said. Accordingly, he ordered all shops and markets in the Dhubri town area to remain closed and prohibited the assembly of five or more people in any public places. Organising any rally, procession, meeting, or demonstration has also been strictly prohibited, the order mentioned. It exempted the movements of emergency services from the purview of the restrictions, it said. "As the circumstances of the situation do not admit service of notice in due time, this order is passed ex-parte," it added. While speaking to reporters, Nath said, 'I appeal to everyone to maintain peace, and there is no need to panic and get emotional. All must stay indoors and respect each other.' A suspected cow head was found near a temple on Sunday, another officer said. Protesting it, a mob attacked vegetable vendors and e-rickshaw drivers near Dhubri Magistrate Colony and New Market, he said. Nath said that sufficient forces have been mobilised from both state and central agencies, and they have been deployed across the town. Asked if curfew will be imposed, he said, 'There will be no curfew, but a kind of semi-curfew will be there. All shops and markets will be closed. I request all not to pay heed to rumours, and one community must respect the other.' The district administration held meetings between the Hindu and Muslim communities on Sunday and requested both sides to maintain peace. "During today's protest, we lobbed tear gas shells at one place. No one was injured," Nath said without sharing further details. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said a number of cattle were allegedly slaughtered illegally at several places on Eid, on Saturday, and parts of the meat were thrown at multiple locations across the state. He said the police arrested 16 people from different places.
