TDP-led govt in its first year borrowed excessively, failed promises, pursuing vengeance: Jagan
Amaravati, YSRCP Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday accused the N Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government of indebting the state excessively in just one year, failing to fulfil poll promises, and pursuing 'vengeance' against opposition leaders. Addressing a press conference at his residence in Tadepalli, the former chief minister alleged that the TDP-led NDA government borrowed over 48 percent of loans in just the first year of its rule compared to what the erstwhile YSRCP government had borrowed in five years, despite enduring the debilitating Covid-19 pandemic. "TDP government's liabilities to date are ₹1.61 lakh crore — 48.5 percent of all borrowings made during the five-year YSRCP Government," said Reddy. Sharing the particulars, Jagan said Naidu used SDL issuances until June 2025 to borrow ₹14,000 crore and noted that borrowing during FY25 on the government account amounted to ₹81,597 crore. Likewise, he said the fiscal deficit for April and May 2025 amounted to ₹22,505 crore, and borrowings for Amaravati were ₹31,000 crore. Similarly, he noted that off-budget borrowing through PFC, Andhra Pradesh Markfed, Civil Supplies Corporation, and MC Bonds amounted to ₹710 crore, ₹6,000 crore, ₹2,000 crore, and ₹3,489 crore, respectively. Asserting that the total borrowing by the state in just one year, after the Naidu-led government assumed office, amounted to over ₹1.61 lakh crore, Reddy contrasted that with the loans borrowed by the state — ₹3.32 lakh crore as of March 31, 2024—during the previous YSRCP government. Further, the opposition leader appealed to people of the state to keep a copy of the TDP manifesto handy to demand TDP leaders and cadres when they come to their homes about the 'unfulfilled poll promises' and the monetary benefits due to them. Reddy alleged that the NDA government of filing fake cases and harassing YSRCP leaders Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Devineni Avinash, Usha Charan, Ambati Rambabu, Thopudurthi Prakash Reddy, Gorantla Madhav, Nandigam Suresh, Merugu Nagarjuna, and others. Some of them were even arrested, he noted.

PDS reforms rattle smugglers in Andhra Pradesh; minister Nadendla Manohar says supply of fine-quality rice for midday meals is govt's biggest achievement
Andhra Pradesh Minister Nadendla Manohar VIJAYAWADA: The seizure of large quantities of PDS rice from ships just before they were about to sail a few months ago has shaken the rice smuggling mafia in the state. With surprise checks and constant monitoring of PDS rice diversion, civil supplies and consumer affairs minister Nadendla Manohar has kept illicit traders on edge over the past year. His proactive approach has helped millions of paddy farmers receive payments within 24–48 hours. The civil supplies department has become one of the most prominent in the government since the Naidu-led NDA came to power last June. Although several reforms have been introduced in just one year, Manohar feels the supply of fine-quality rice to the midday meal programme for schoolchildren is the NDA government's biggest achievement. 'It is close to my heart. Among all decisions, this is the most satisfying,' said Manohar in an exclusive interview with TOI. He added that the government plans to supply fine-quality rice through PDS shops to prevent the recycling of PDS rice. You have introduced several reforms in the department. How do you view the journey over the last year? It has been really challenging. This is one of the few departments that directly connects with every household in the state. We interact with millions of poor people, children, farmers, rice millers and PDS distributors. Every day brings new challenges, as we must manage both suppliers and consumers without letting anyone suffer. Your surprise inspections of rice mills, godowns and even ships have made waves across the state. Has rice recycling been fully stopped? Our surprise raids and stock seizures have scared illegal traders. We have seized around 70,000 metric tonnes of PDS rice during these raids, showing the scale of illegal operations. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan have given me full freedom to act tough, as the government spends thousands of crores on subsidies. However, stopping diversion entirely is an ongoing process. Is it really possible to stop PDS rice recycling? Yes, absolutely. We have developed a multi-pronged strategy. We're also creating awareness among consumers. Despite improving PDS rice quality, many still hesitate to use it. We are working hard to change this perception. At the same time, we're remodelling PDS shops into mini retail malls to make them more profitable. All 29,000 shops will be fitted with CCTV cameras to ensure transparency. How did you manage to complete paddy procurement so smoothly? It's one of the government's major achievements. We procured about 48 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during Kharif and Rabi, spending nearly Rs 12,000 crore in the past year. We transferred money to farmers' accounts within 24 hours and cleared Rs 1,700 crore in dues left by the previous YSRCP government. Can fine-quality rice be supplied through PDS despite the gap between demand and production? We are encouraging farmers to grow fine varieties, as much of the stock we currently procure is not suitable for local consumption. We believe that farmers will grow more fine-quality rice if they get the right price. Change will come gradually. There have been complaints about ration card services. How are these being handled? There are indeed many issues with ration cards. We are resolving them systematically. Many people want to split cards to qualify for other welfare schemes like pensions. We are handling such cases carefully. How did you manage to start supplying fine-quality rice for the midday meal programme right from the first day of school reopening? We prepared in advance and implemented the plan on time. This is the government's biggest success, in my opinion. I'm extremely pleased that we're providing good-quality rice for children's meals. We are supplying around 2.25 lakh metric tonnes of fine rice for the midday meal scheme. Why was the Mobile Dispensing Unit (MDU) scheme discontinued? After a detailed review, the government found that MDUs had become a channel for diverting PDS rice. The previous YSRCP government allegedly misused around Rs 2,000 crore through MDUs, benefiting illegal traders. We have revitalised PDS shops so people can collect their rations conveniently. We'll also provide home delivery for elderly and disabled individuals. Additionally, the government has decided to hand over MDUs free of cost to owners so they can start their own businesses.

Rally held on ‘Backstab Day'
Anantapur: YSR Congress Party district president Anantha Venkatarami Reddy launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of betraying the people after making grand promises before the elections. As part of the State-wide protest dubbed 'Vennupotu Dinam' (Backstabbing Day), YSRCP leaders and cadres staged a massive rally in Anantapur on Wednesday, denouncing as one year of failed governance by the NDA alliance under Naidu's leadership. Reddy alleged that the Naidu-led coalition government had failed to fulfill any of the 143 promises it made before the 2024 elections, including the widely publicised 'Super Six' guarantees. He highlighted that schemes such as Rs 20,000 per year for farmers, Rs 15,000 for mothers under Thalli ki Vandanam, Rs 1,500 monthly support for women, and Rs 3,000 unemployment benefits for youth remain unimplemented even after a year in power. Venkatarami Reddy criticised the government for allegedly using police and administrative machinery to target YSRCP leaders and suppress opposition voices. He accused the TDP-led government of engaging in 'diversion politics' due to its inability to implement welfare schemes and warned that even officials siding with the ruling party would not be spared from public scrutiny. Party parliamentary observer Naresh Kumar Reddy echoed similar sentiments, stating that not a single Super Six promises had been fulfilled in one year. He criticised the government for prioritising capital city infrastructure over rural development and said that under Jagan Mohan Reddy's rule, the education system thrived, unlike under the current regime. The YSRCP leaders concluded by affirming that their fight for the people's rights will continue, whether in power or in opposition. The protest began with paying tributes at Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Tadipatri bus stand, followed by a rally from Chennakesava Swamy temple to the Collector's office. Participants carried placards and raised slogans. Later, they submitted a petition to district Collector Dr Vinod Kumar V.

YSRCP East Godavari District President and Former Minister Chelluboyina Venugopala Krishna led the rally. Following the rally, the former minister submitted a representation to the District Collector. A large number of party leaders, workers, and supporters actively participated in the rally, which was organised to protest against the N Chandrababu Naidu government. YSRCP shared posts on X, showing visuals from protests marking 'Betrayal Day' held in multiple locations. The rally in Rajampet was led by Meda Raghunath Reddy. According to an X post by YSRCP, after the rally, MP Gurumoorthy said that the coalition government came to power by making false promises to the people, and it is ridiculous for the coalition leaders to say that today is a festival day for the people. The MP said that people think that this is not a government that celebrates festivals, but a government of pure violence. He said that the false promises given by the coalition will burn the coalition government like fire in the coming days. He warned that YSRCP workers and leaders are being harassed with illegal cases to divert people's attention from election promises, and there is no point in being afraid of such wildfires. He said on this occasion that more such protest programs will be organised against the failures of the government in the future. Sharing a video on '1 year of CBN Back Stabbing', YSRCP wrote on X, 'Super-6 turned out to be a golden duck. AP people won't forget this betrayal.'
