Phillies Share Bryce Harper Injury Update Amid Trade Rumors
Phillies Share Bryce Harper Injury Update Amid Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Unlike former Boston Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers, Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper shouldn't be concerned about finding a new home this summer. Advertisement At least, that is the case when discussing uniforms. Harper and the Phillies are a perfect match, and there is absolutely zero indication the Phillies will part ways with the two-time NL MVP anytime soon. It'll still be a bit before we see Harper back in the lineup, though. Harper, who has been out since late May with a right wrist injury, took ground balls at first base over the weekend. Phillies manager Rob Thomson told reporters that Harper will travel with the team for their four-game road set against the Miami Marlins this week. However, Harper still isn't hitting, and there is no timetable for his return. Harper's injury update comes as the trade season begins in full force and rumors swirl about the Phillies' potential lineup changes. Philadelphia's outfield has battled inconsistency all season, raising questions about Harper—a full-time outfielder from 2012-21—possibly leaving first base. Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper after his injury on May 27, 2025Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been linked to the Phillies in recent weeks, and we expect such speculation to ramp up after Boston traded Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Advertisement Until further notice, though, we can assume Harper will resume full-time first-base duties upon returning. He hasn't played the outfield since 2022, and all but one start this season has come at first; he started at DH during a May 4 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Harper hit the IL batting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and a .814 OPS over 253 at-bats. He's posted 1.5 bWAR for the second-place Phillies, who enter Monday trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games in the NL East. MLB Makes Bryce Harper Announcement After Injury Update
MLB Makes Bryce Harper Announcement After Injury Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As it stands, Philadelphia Phillies fans likely won't have to worry about first baseman Bryce Harper suffering an injury setback in the All-Star Game. Advertisement Harper, a two-time NL MVP, just keeps getting bad news. First, the Phillies reversed their decision to have Harper travel with them to Miami; instead, the eight-time All-Star remained in Philadelphia while recovering from a right wrist problem. If that wasn't enough, Major League Baseball announced on Monday that Harper ranks fourth among NL first basemen in All-Star voting. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman had 1,136,389 votes as of Monday afternoon, by far the most among NL first basemen. Harper had 276,647 votes, narrowly trailing Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Bush's 286,931 votes. New York Mets star Pete Alonso (895,900) has a considerable lead over both players. Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce HarperJohn E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images That's not to say Harper necessarily deserves an All-Star nod. Harper hit the IL batting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBI, and a .814 OPS over 253 at-bats. He's posted 1.5 bWAR for the second-place Phillies, who trail the Mets by two games in the NL East. Advertisement It's nonetheless surprising that Haper doesn't have more votes, though, especially given his name and reputation. He's certainly more recognizable than Busch, a third-year first baseman hitting .265 with 11 home runs, 39 RBI, and a .861 OPS for the NL Central-leading Cubs. No Phillies player ranked higher than third at their position. However, each team must have one representative, and ace Zack Wheeler (7-2, 2.76 ERA) appears on track to earn his third All-Star selection. Wheeler is already worth 3.0 bWAR, and he's recorded a brilliant 110-19 K-BB ratio in 88 innings. Francisco Lindor relates to Juan Soto's first-year Mets struggles: ‘I wanted to do so much more'
Juan Soto's ups and downs in his first season as a Met are not uncharted territory — Francisco Lindor didn't come to New York in 2021 firing on all cylinders either. Across Lindor's 11-year career, he was never less effective than he was in his first season with the Mets after six seasons in Cleveland with four All-Star appearances. In his first New York season after a blockbuster trade and signing a $341 million contract, Lindor had career lows in every category of his slash line at .230/.322/.412. Before he was an NL MVP runner-up with the Mets, Francisco Lindor struggled in his first season in New York. Getty Images While Soto's .247/.388/.455 slash line this season isn't as low as Lindor's from 2021, it is a decent drop-off from Soto's career year with the Yankees in 2024. The shortstop reflected on that season Monday on 'The Show: A NY Post baseball podcast with Joel Sherman & Jon Heyman.' 'My first year, the reason why it was so tough for me — I was trying to hug more than I could hug. I wanted to do so much more than I could have,' Lindor said. 'It wasn't until I learned the organization, the culture, until I went through a lot of ups and downs, that I realized, you know what? If I take care of my job, and my job is to play shortstop for the New York Mets, a lot of other things are gonna get solved.' Lindor credited the organization, the Cohen family in particular, for helping him through the process while encouraging him to 'do your thing.' But Lindor also credited something unusual for his success in battling through the struggles. 'One of the biggest blessings to me that year was that I ended up in the IL,' he said. 'That helped me to slow things down. Things were a little fast for me and that helped me slow things down and see things from the outside.' So while fans will hope Soto doesn't have to suffer an injury like Lindor did to play up to his $765 million contract, it could be beneficial knowing that Soto has a teammate who has been in his shoes before. Juan Soto has slashed .247/.388/.455 in his first season with the Mets. AP As far as Lindor sees it, though, his superstar teammate has been climbing positively all season. 'When it comes to Soto, yeah, for some of the fans, he looked like he was struggling, but the numbers were good, the expected numbers, which is something that a lot of front offices look into,' Lindor said. 'Credit to him … he still looks like the same person — he didn't ride the wave of being bad or the wave of being good, he stayed the course. 'For such a young player with a lot on his plate, he has handled himself extremely well … I believe he's going to end up being an all-star, and he's gonna have a fantastic year. It's gonna help us win and continue to help us to win a lot of games.'

Francisco Lindor gets one step closer to elusive Mets All-Star nod — but two other stars have work to do
Access the Mets beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets. Try it free Francisco Lindor is on the path toward recognition. The Mets de facto captain is the leading vote-getter — by plenty — at National League shortstop in the first balloting update for the All-Star Game. Lindor, who somehow has never made the Midsummer Classic as a Met, has tallied just over a million votes, or 400,000 more than second place (the Dodgers' Mookie Betts). The Phillies' Trea Turner is third. Barring something unforeseen, Lindor will crack his first All-Star Game since 2019 and fifth overall. 3 Francisco Lindor reacts after stealing second base during the Mets' June 12 game. Jason Szenes for the NY Post In recent seasons with the Mets, he had become accustomed to slow starts and excellence otherwise, which had equated to three top 10 finishes for NL MVP, but no July honors. This year has been different, Lindor doing just about everything well in hitting .279 with an .828 OPS, 14 home runs and 13 steals in his first 70 games, some of which have been played through a broken pinky toe. The Mets have two other potential starters, though Pete Alonso and Juan Soto at the moment would be on the outside looking in. In Monday's voting reveal, Alonso is second among NL first basemen and trailing the Dodgers' Freddie Freeman by about 240,000 votes. The competition is an interesting one, Alonso bringing more power but Freeman entering play Monday hitting .332. Soto ranks fourth among NL outfielders with 625,618 votes, trailing Cub and former Mets prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong (1,126,119), his teammate Kyle Tucker (704,740) and the Dodgers' Teoscar Hernández (685,553). 3 Pete Alonso reacts after hitting a double during the Mets' game against the Rays on June 13. Charles Wenzelberg 3 Juan Soto singles during the Mets' June 11 game against the Nationals. Corey Sipkin for the NY Post Among other Mets, Francisco Alvarez comes in third at catcher, Jeff McNeil fifth at second base, Mark Vientos sixth at third base, Starling Marte fifth at DH and Brandon Nimmo 10th and Tyrone Taylor 13th in the outfield. Phase 1 of the voting ends on June 26, at which time the two top vote-getters at each spot (and the top six outfielders) will advance to the next phase. Brooks Raley, who was re-signed in April after Tommy John surgery ended his 2024 season with the Mets, is set to begin a rehab assignment with Low-A St. Lucie on Tuesday. The Mets, who have lost AJ Minter and Danny Young for the season and only are carrying José Castillo as a lefty in the bullpen, will be able to use the help whenever Raley is ready. But he is not expected to be ready soon after undergoing surgery last May. 'He's coming back from a significant surgery,' president of baseball operations David Stearns said last week. 'This is not a short rehab assignment. We've got to go through a full spring training ramp, make sure he's ready to go. … You might be looking at a full 30 days there.' Turning 37 this month, Raley had been effective with the Mets in pitching to a 2.48 ERA through 74 games the previous two seasons.

Giancarlo Stanton set to make season debut for Yankees after missing first 70 games
NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton was activated Monday and set to start against the Los Angeles Angels and bat fifth after missing New York's first 70 games because of inflammation in the tendons of both elbows. Stanton was 3 for 11 with 4 RBIs in three rehab games last week with Double-A Somerset, an assignment cut short by rainy weather. He worked out Sunday at Yankee Stadium while the Yankees were getting swept at Boston. 'He feels good to go,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. 'Excited to get the big boy back.' Stanton has not played a full season since 2018, the first year after the Yankees acquired him from the Miami Marlins. Entering Monday, he had missed 364 of 940 games (39%) since the beginning of the 2019 season. The 35-year-old appeared in 114 games last season, hitting .233 with 27 homers and 72 RBIs, then had seven homers in 14 postseason games and was voted the MVP of the AL Championship Series. Given a then-record $325 million, 13-year contract by the Marlins, Stanton had 59 homers and 132 RBIs in 2017, winning the NL MVP award. He was traded to the Yankees and has 38 homers and 100 RBIs in his first season in the Bronx. He missed time because of a strained right biceps and strained posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee (2019), strained left hamstring (2020), strained left quadriceps (2021), right ankle inflammation and left Achilles tendinitis (2022) and strained left hamstring (2023 and 2024). Stanton was activated from the 60-day injured list and infielder/outfielder Pablo Reyes was designated for assignment. Ben Rice had started 43 games at designated hitter, Aaron Judge 17, Jasson Domínguez eight and Paul Goldschmidt two. Boone said right-hander Jake Cousins will have Tommy John surgery on Wednesday with Texas Rangers head team physician Dr. Keith Meister and right-hander JT Brubaker likely will be activated in the next few days after recovering from three broken left ribs sustained when trying to avoid a comebacker in spring training. Cousins, sidelined all season, made minor league rehab appearances on June 3 and 7 for High-A Hudson Valley and felt discomfort. ___ AP MLB:
