In other areas, residents are bracing for severe thunderstorms and gusty winds. The N3 Toll Route has urged motorists to check conditions before they embark on any long travels. "These weather conditions may impact road safety, and could result in traffic congestion, delays, and temporary road closures should driving conditions become treacherous," warned N3TC chief operating officer, Thania Dhoogra. "We recommend motorists keep sufficient emergency provisions in their vehicles including water, food, medication, warm clothes and blankets, cellphones, chargers, backup power banks, and basic first aid equipment," she added. Orange Level 5: Disruptive rain leading to danger to life, flooding and displacements of settlements, as well as mudslides, is expected over Alfred Nzo, Makana, Ndlambe, Kouga, and Koukamma municipalities of the Eastern Cape. Yellow Level 2: Disruptive snow leading to loss of livestock, minor passes closed and traffic disruptions due to snow and icy roads are expected over the Chris Hani district municipality, Dr Beyers Naude (Graaff Reinet), Raymond Mhlaba, Amahlathi and Umzimvubu local municipalities of the Eastern Cape. Small vessels in short period, steep waves & hampered progress due to strong winds), and localised disruptions to beachfront activities ( of beaches for swimming, shore/rock angling) are expected along the coast of KZN tomorrow and Wednesday. Orange Level 6: Damaging winds and waves resulting in damage to settlements, some structural damage, disruption to ports/harbours and danger to vessels at sea is expected between Kei River Mouth and Port Edward.H. Yellow Level 2: Damaging waves resulting in localised disruption to ports/ harbours, difficulty in navigation of small vessels with a risk of taking water and capsizing in a locality are expected between Port Alfred and Peddie Coast. N3 Toll urges road users to be cautious amid icy conditions

The South African Weather Service (Saws) said very cold, wet and windy conditions, including snow, will persist in some parts of the country. Adverse weather Thabia Dhoogra, Chief Operating Officer of the N3TC, stated that adverse weather conditions may impact safety, convenience, and mobility on the toll route. Amenities Dhoogra warned that the weather conditions may impact road safety, and could result in traffic congestion, delays, and temporary road closures should driving conditions become treacherous. 'Please check the most recent travel status before embarking on your trip, and allow extra travel time to reach your destination safely. Inclement weather often results in traffic congestion and extensive delays. 'We recommend motorists keep sufficient emergency provisions in their vehicles, including water, food, medication, warm clothes and blankets, cellphones, chargers, backup power banks, and basic first aid equipment,' Dhoogra said. 'Defensive driving' Dhoogra urged motorists to respect the rules of the toll route. 'Road users can also assist emergency services to reduce safety threats by driving defensively and responding appropriately to the prevailing conditions. Remain patient and alert, anticipate potential hazards, reduce speed, and maintain a safe following distance in order to react in good time to potential risks 'N3TC's route services teams, together with our partners in the road incident management system (RIMS), are already deployed and are ready to assist in any eventuality. Watch: Trucks obstruct N3 in Free State
Motorists are urged to approach the N3 with caution, particularly near the Roadside/Reitz Interchange in the Free State, due to reports of trucks obstructing the freeway in both directions. Five people killed in horror accident, north of Durban in KZN

Picture: ALS Paramedics Five people have been killed in a horrific accident north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The crash happened early on Sunday morning on Eddie Hagen Drive in Cato Ridge. 'Stabbing' ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the road has been closed. 'Reports are that a family of six were transporting a critically injured patient who had been assaulted and stabbed to the local clinic when they lost control and left the roadway before colliding with a concrete drain,' Jamieson said. Accident Jamieson added that paramedics responded to this horrific collision just before 6am this morning and found emergency personnel already in attendance. 'Paramedics arrived on the scene to find total carnage. They found that the vehicle has basically split in half. Paramedics assessed the scene and found that all six male patients had sustained major injuries. Paramedics worked on two patients on the scene, however, one went into a state of cardiac arrest and was declared deceased on the scene. 'One patient with critical injuries was rushed to a nearby hospital for the urgent care that he required. A total of five have been confirmed deceased on the scene,' Jamieson said. Investigation Jamieson said paramedics, together with the metro police search and rescue, the eThekwini Fire Department and police are in attendance to investigate the cause of the accident. 'I would advise all motorists to avoid this area at all costs.' People from across Gauteng and other provinces are expected to travel to the coast during the long weekend. N3TC chief operating officer Thania Dhoogra said conditions along the route are currently cloudy, and traffic is flowing freely. Patience Dhoogra urged motorists to be patient on the road. 'Road users are, however, reminded to always be prepared for sudden changes in route and weather conditions which could impact the flow of traffic, and cause congestion and delays, especially during peak traffic periods. 'Always allow for unforeseen circumstances when planning your road trip. Passengers can support drivers by being an extra pair of eyes, helping to monitor their surroundings, and anticipate dangerous situations,' said Dhoogra. KZN holiday traffic builds up on N3 amid heavy rain, flooding warning
The N3TC is reporting a sharp increase in southbound traffic from midday as holidaymakers travel to KwaZulu-Natal. The eThekwini Metro has been warned of expected heavy rain, flooding, and disrupted bus services, and emergency teams are on high alert. The N3TC h as urged drivers to stay alert and plan ahead, warning that poor weather could cause delays and congestion along the 415km route. While eThekwini residents are bracing themselves for severe weather, a significant increase in southbound traffic volumes is expected on the N3 Toll Route from midday as holidaymakers make their way to KwaZulu-Natal. Although traffic along the 415-kilometre route is flowing freely, the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) and its Road Incident Management System (RIMS) partners are on high alert. N3TC COO Thania Dhoogra reminded road users to remain cautious and ready for sudden changes in weather or traffic conditions. Dhoogra warned that rainy weather conditions could lead to delays and congestion - particularly during peak travel times. "Always allow for unforeseen circumstances when planning your road trip." "Passengers can play a vital role by assisting drivers, serving as an extra pair of eyes, and helping to monitor the surroundings for any potential hazards." The eThekwini Metro has been warned to expect widespread showers and storms, which are likely to subside on Saturday morning. As a result, the municipality urged motorists to follow traffic reports. According to the City, flooded roads include the corner of North Coast Road and Braden Road, M19 / Umngeni Road, under the N2 bridge, M4 next to La Lucia. Bus services on North Coast Road have also been disrupted as a result of flooding. "Several bus routes in the north are affected, including in KwaMashu F, J and K sections. Disaster management and emergency teams are activated and are prepared to help where needed. So far, no incidents have been reported around the City. However, teams will continue to monitor the situation," said the City in a statement on Friday.
