Dolly Parton adds honorary Oscar to her trophy shelf: A look back at her legendary awards history

Dolly Parton, whose iconic career has spanned over six decades, will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2025 Governors Awards this November. While this marks her first Oscar, the music icon has earned hundreds of accolades. Since debuting on the Grand Ole Opry stage at just 13, Parton has become a trailblazer, writing herself into the canon of American songwriting with hits like 'Jolene' and 'I Will Always Love You.' Over the years, she has extended her influence into Grammy, Emmy, Oscar, and even Tony territory. More from GoldDerby 'It was wonderful to be on that ride': Christian Slater talks his beloved roles, from cult classics ('Heathers,' 'True Romance') to TV hits ('Mr. Robot,' 'Dexter: Original Sin') 'Elio' reviews knock Pixar for 'repeating itself' with 'forgettable' space adventure 'F1: The Movie' reviews: Brad Pitt burns rubber with 'macho panache' in a high-octane thrill ride Parton's relationship with the Grammys is nothing short of historic. She has earned 11 Grammy Awards from 54 nominations, placing her among the most nominated female artists in the show's history. She won her first Grammy in 1978 for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her Here You Come Again album. In 2011, she received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and two of her most beloved songs — 'Jolene' and 'I Will Always Love You' — have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Her 1971 classic "Coat of Many Colors" was selected for the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry. SEEDolly Parton: 15 best songs ranked In 2017, she returned to the Grammy spotlight with a win for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, joining forces with Pentatonix on an a cappella rendition of 'Jolene.' Though she has never won a competitive Oscar, Parton has been nominated for Best Original Song twice: for '9 to 5' (1981), the feminist anthem from the workplace comedy in which she also starred, and 'Travelin' Thru' (2006), written for the LGBTQ-themed drama Transamerica. On the television front, Parton has also made a significant mark. Her first Emmy nomination came in 1978 for The Cher... Special. Decades later, in 2021, she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie as executive producer of the Netflix holiday special Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square. She's also been recognized for other TV projects she produced and starred in, including Dolly Parton's Heartstrings: These Old Bones (2020), Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (2017), and Dolly Parton's Mountain Magic Christmas (2023). On stage, she received a Tony nomination for Best Original Score for the musical 9 to 5, which premiered on Broadway in 2009. In the world of country music, few artists rival Parton's impact. She has won 13 Academy of Country Music Awards (from 44 nominations) and 10 Country Music Association Awards (from 45 nominations), including Entertainer of the Year in 1978 — making her the first woman to win the honor solo. Her accolades also include 13 CMT Music Awards, 48 BMI Awards, three American Music Awards, a GLAAD Media Award, and one Billboard Music Award, despite her many appearances across Billboard charts. Most recently, in 2024, Billboard named her the No. 1 Greatest Country Artist of All Time. She is a member of the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame, and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her reach extends beyond Nashville. In 2022, Parton was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has also received the National Medal of the Arts from the U.S. Congress and was a 2006 Kennedy Center Honoree. But not everything Dolly has done is golden: She received a Razzie Award for Worst Original Song for the track "Drinkin'stein" from Rhinestone. But we think she's recovered. "Now, when I was a little girl, I would sit around the radio, listening to the Grand Ole Opry and hearing all those great big stars like Hank Williams and Kitty Wells and Johnny Cash and I dreamed of what my life could actually become as well," she said when learning about her Billboard honor. "I take none of this for granted." 60s Music Icon Surprise Releases First New Music In 15 Years

60s Music Icon Surprise Releases First New Music In 15 Years originally appeared on Parade. are one of the biggest groups in rock and roll history. Formed in 1961, the original lineup consisted of brothers Carl, Dennis, and Brian Wilson, their cousin, and friend Al Jardine. With their hit, "Surfin' U.S.A.," the group established the "California sound" of surfing, cars and having fun while being young. The group was known for its vocal harmonies, but each member got a chance to shine. For Al Jardine, he sang lead on one of the Beach Boys' biggest hits, "Help Me, Rhonda," as well as "Then I Kissed Her," and "Cottonfields." Jardine exited the Beach Boys in 1998 following Carl Wilson's death, and has spent most of the time working with Brian Wilson. On May 30, Jardine shocked everyone by surprise releasing his new EP, Islands In The Sun. The collection is Jardine's first new solo project since 2010's A Postcard From California. The title track features Al's son, Matt Jardineand guest vocals from Beach Boy Bruce Johnson. "'Islands In The Sun' captures that special magic we felt and sang about on Beach Boys songs like 'Island Girl' and 'Kokomo,'" says Al in a press release. "It was inspired by the enchanting calypso sounds of Harry Belafonte and Bob Marley's laid-back reggae vibe. Now wouldn't it be fun if we could bottle up the sun!" The collection also features a previously unreleased duet with Neil Young called "My Plane Leaves Tomorrow (Au Revoir)." The song details the conflict of sending troops off to fight in foreign wars and features Flea performing the military bugle call "Taps." The EP also includes Jardine's reworking of The Coasters' 1956 hit "Smokey Joe's Café" –a new song called "Highway 101 (Rosarita Beach Café)"—and "Crumple Car," a revamped version of a forgotten tune from the 1978 surf movie Big Wednesday. Al Jardine will embark on a summer tour with Brian Wilson's touring band, The Pet Sounds Band, performing classic Beach Boys hits and fan favorites from the group's '70s albums.60s Music Icon Surprise Releases First New Music In 15 Years first appeared on Parade on May 30, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on May 30, 2025, where it first appeared.

90s music star dies after battle with cirrhosis

90s music icon Douglas McCarthy has passed away at the age of 58, his bandmates confirmed. Born and raised in Essex, the musician co-founded electric body music band Nitzer Ebb, who thrived throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The group announced his passing on their official social media channels on Thursday. Their statement read: 'It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform that Douglas McCarthy passed away this morning of June 11th, 2025. 'We ask everyone to please be respectful of Douglas, his wife, and family in this difficult time. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'We appreciate your understanding and will share more information soon.' While Douglas's cause of death is yet to be confirmed, he was forced to pull out of a European tour with Nitzer Ebb in March 2024 due to liver cirrhosis. Douglas said at the time that the disease had been caused by 'years of alcohol abuse... for over two years I have not been drinking, but recovery is a long process.' Nitzer Ebb was formed by McCarthy and bandmates Bon Harris and David Gooday in Chelmsford, Essex, in 1982 before the band went onto pioneer the British industrial music scene. With a stripped down and aggressive style, the group shot to stardom by combining combined synthesizers with incredibly raw vocals. Front man Douglas was at the forefront of his band's success, leading Nitzer Ebb with a style he described as 'shouting and pointing'. The band released their debut album That Total Age in 1987 before going onto release a string of projects the following decade including Showtime and Ebbhead. They broke up in 1996 but got back together in 2006 and had been touring ever since. Later this year, McCarthy and his bandmates had been set to embark on a tour of North America. A host of supporters paid tribute to Douglas following his death this week, including co-founder Bon Harris. The 59-year-old described his band mate as 'one of the most extraordinary people I have ever known', calling his passing a 'profound loss'. Other tributes read: 'I hope he knew how much he was loved and appreciated by his fans', 'Just heartbreaking. Very underrated band and he was a very nice guy when I met him in 1990. RIP.', 'So sad to learn of his passing. Just saw NE (Nitzer Ebb) without him last month in Detroit and, of course, it wasn't the same without him. His voice and sound was so influential and it rocked my world in the 90s. Was lucky to get to see them perform 3 times. Was said to learn his liver was failing from alcohol abuse and he had to quit touring because of it. RIP Douglas McCarthy!', 'A true pioneer. Absolute energy and passion into every song. Really struggling to come to terms with this'.

Madonna Announces A New Album Dropping Next Month

Madonna announces Veronica Electronica, a remix album of Ray of Light era tracks, arriving July 25 ... More and led by 'Skin (The Collaboration Remix Edit).' NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 05: Madonna attends the 2025 Met Gala Celebrating "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 05, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Kevin Mazur/MG25/Getty Images for The Met Museum/Vogue) For several months now, Madonna has been teasing the next chapter of her musical career. The superstar revealed on social media not long ago that she's working on a follow-up to her album Confessions on a Dance Floor, which she is currently referring to as Confessions 2. There's no word yet on when fans will get to hear anything from that project. But they won't have to wait long before they can listen to new tunes from the icon, as she has announced a completely separate full-length that's set to arrive in only a few weeks. Madonna has announced a new album titled Veronica Electronica. The full-length remix set is expected to drop on July 25. The first tune from the project, "Skin (The Collaboration Remix Edit)," was shared at the time of the announcement. Veronica Electronica features seven previously unreleased and rare remixes of songs from her album Ray of Light. The tracklist includes smashes like "Frozen," "Nothing Really Matters," and, of course, the title track, as well as several other cuts. Fans who pick up a copy of the album will also be treated to a never-before-shared demo of the song "Gone, Gone, Gone," which wasn't originally featured on Ray of Light. According to a press release announcing Veronica Electronica, the album was apparently conceived back in 1998 during her Ray of Light era. When the full-length took off and became hugely successful—perhaps more so than some in her camp were expecting—the remixes were put aside and never revisited until now, more than a quarter-century later. It's now been almost six years since Madonna released a new studio full-length. Madame X, her fourteenth project, dropped in the summer of 2019. The Grammy winner has reportedly already played Confessions 2 for some people, but when it comes to the general public, she's remaining quiet about the set. Madonna is also currently busy prepping a Netflix miniseries about her life, which was once meant to be a feature-length film, but which appears to have shifted mediums, perhaps in order to fit more story in.

A-list Hollywood couple considering relocating to London because they prefer ‘colder climate' to balmy Los Angeles

JOHN LEGEND and his wife Chrissy Teigen are practically US royalty. He is a Grammy-winning singer and she's a hilarious TV star, model and author. 4 4 But now the A-list couple are considering packing in their life Stateside after falling in love with Blighty. John explained in an exclusive chat with Bizarre's Howell: 'We love it here. Chrissy loves it and the kids love it. 'We spent our last Christmas here and two or three Christmases ago we were here as well. 'We like to be in a colder place. We don't like to be in Los Angeles for Christmas. 'It's too warm and sunny and we both grew up in a colder weather environment so it doesn't feel like Christmas if it's warm.' Asked if that meant they would consider relocating here, he added: 'Yes, we would. I mean, especially now. 'We always talk about the possibility of moving to New York or London. 'Those are two cities that we would definitely consider living in. We love walking cities. 'There's something very appealing about both of them and Chrissy and I feel like we thrive in those kinds of environments, so it's something to consider for sure.' The All Of Me singer is such a fan of the UK that he chose it as the place to kick off his Get Lifted — 20th Anniversary Tour. AMERICAN music icon John Legend was left red-faced after reportedly playing to an 'empty' arena He wowed the crowds during the opening night in Glasgow on Tuesday, where he wore a striking white suit. Last night John performed in Manchester, ahead of Birmingham this evening and London's O2 Arena on Sunday. The tour celebrates his 2004 debut album, which featured the massive hit Ordinary People. John said: 'It's fun to reminisce about this time. I tell a few stories in the show. We like to be in a colder place. We don't like to be in Los Angeles for Christmas John 'My last tour was like a solo show where I literally told stories the whole time. So this is a lot less of that and it's the full band and a lot more music. 'A lot more music' 'When I think about Get Lifted, I associate a lot of that early promo and those early shows with London and with the UK. 'I just remember playing the Jazz Cafe and those early gigs, and Ordinary People especially took off here. 'It's perfect that we start the tour here.' John is now somehow juggling a six-month tour with work on his 11th studio album. He said: 'The way I'm approaching the next album is, how do I make that one the best one I've ever done? 'How do I collaborate with people who are going to make me better and bring out something special in me? 4 'That's what I'm going to focus on and the awards will take care of themselves. 'We've written a lot prior to this tour. Most of it's written.' One thing you can't expect from John and Chrissy is a reality show, as he revealed they have turned down offers. 'Yeah, we've been approached,' he said. You know, she's very entertaining and I'm like her straight man. 'Every comic needs a straight man. 'I feel like we share plenty on social media and we like being in control of what we share. So anything we would do on the unscripted side, it would have to be with us having control over what we share. Bedroom encounters 'Shows are built around people arguing with each other. We're just not interested in that version.' The couple now have four kids. But asked if they would like more, John said hastily: 'No. That was a quick answer. I'm all done.' There's no doubt his soulful, sexy music has helped make plenty of other babies though. Asked whether fans tell him about bedroom encounters with his tunes as the soundtrack, he said: 'Oh, so many awkward conversations. 'We hear about that. We hear about people getting married which is not as awkward. 'But either way, it just lets you know that you make music that is part of people's lives.' 4
