Great success claimed by Wrexham and Mold basketball teams

Wrexham Warriors headed to Aberystwyth to compete for the Terry Price Cup against the champions from South Wales. After triumphing in Division Two this season, Wrexham were hoping to continue their success story and they did just that with a 90-41 triumph over AFC Gwent. Other North Wales sides who headed to Aberystwyth for their national match-ups were Dreigiau Caernarfon Gwyn (U14s), Bromborough Bulldogs (U16s), Dreigiau Caernarfon (U18s) and senior Division One champions Mold Magic. A week earlier and it was a big day in the North Wales basketball calendar as teams congregated at Bangor University's Brailsford Centre to compete for the NWBA Swish Cup, sponsored by Swish Basketball Coaching. Teams from Dreigiau Caernarfon, Mold Magic, Wrexham Warriors, Ynys Mon Celts and Cheshire Raptors competed in a round-robin tournament. From the first tip Mold Magic and Dreigiau Caernarfon Gwyn dominated their games. It was great to see the under-14s competing on Bangor's two courts and parents supporting from the balconies and benches. Who would raise the cup went down to the last game on court two, where Mold and Caernarfon exchanged baskets, taking the game into golden basket overtime. Mold were able to sink the first basket in extra time, gifting them the trophy. Dreigiau Caernarfon Gwyn received their runner-up medals before Mold Magic celebrated receiving the Swish Trophy.
