Workshop on ‘World of Shakespeare' held in Dubai
In collaboration with Dubai National Theatre, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Library hosted a dynamic workshop titled 'The World of Shakespeare: Literature and Performance.' Presented by renowned artist Jehad Sa'ad, the two-day event drew a remarkable turnout and engaged an audience of literature and theatre enthusiasts. This event is part of a series of unique programmes hosted by the library to nurture the cultural and creative arena in the UAE. The first day focused on the theoretical aspect, where Sa'ad reviewed William Shakespeare's career, as one of the key figures of world theater and the most influential in the history of literature. The workshop addressed his main theatrical works, namely 'Romeo and Juliet,' the tragedy that became an icon of love, and a deep conflict between emotion and destiny. The workshop also delved into an in-depth analysis of the 'Shakespearean character,' characterised by a complex psychological makeup and profound internal conflict, evident in plays such as 'Hamlet' and 'Macbeth,' where will clashes with destiny, and duty with emotion, in a solid dramatic structure that continues to inspire generations. On the second day, participants participated in a live theatrical performance experience, with live rehearsals of selected scenes from Shakespeare's works, under Sa'ad's supervision. During these rehearsals, Sa'ad offered the attendees guidance on recitation, movement, and vocal expression. This allowed them to get closer to the spirit of the theatrical text and bring it to life on stage. Dr. Mohammed Salem AlMazrooei, Board Member at Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, said: 'Hosting these events supports our unwavering commitment to stimulating the cultural movement, and enhancing the status of literature and the arts in the UAE, particularly in Dubai. Mohammed Bin Rashid Library celebrates remarkable achievements at annual partners gala dinner
195 visits by official and diplomatic delegations from the UAE and abroad. The library has witnessed significant growth in its knowledge resources, reaching over 730,000 printed books in more than 90 global languages. One billion electronic sources and 7 databases that include reports, researches, PhD, and master's theses. Organising and hosting more than 200 events, namely the first edition of the Dubai International Library Conference 2024. The library ranked seventh globally in the number of visits to its website, the first locally among library websites in the UAE, and the second as a local cultural destination that community members e-visit. Dubai, UAE: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library organised its annual partners' gala dinner to celebrate and express gratitude to its esteemed partners from both public and private sectors, sponsors, contributors, and media professionals. This annual event is a testament to the invaluable support and contributions of the library's stakeholders, who play a pivotal role in promoting its vision, spreading its message, and advancing its goals of nurturing knowledge, fostering culture, and encouraging innovation both locally and regionally. The gala dinner was attended by His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Foundation, and Dr. Mohammed Salem AlMazrooei, Board Member at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation. The event also saw the presence of senior officials, employees, media professionals, and representatives from strategic partners and media institutions, alongside public figures who have supported the library's remarkable journey and its achievements throughout 2024. In his keynote address, Al Murr emphasised the importance of cooperation in achieving significant milestones. He highlighted the library's continued efforts to promote knowledge and creativity by forging sustainable strategic partnerships with both public and private entities, both locally and internationally. Al Murr remarked, 'The sustainable growth of the library's content has made a substantial contribution to the development of the local cultural and knowledge landscape, enhancing accessibility to knowledge across diverse fields.' The event commenced with a video presentation, spotlighting key statistics, figures, initiatives, events, and the diverse cultural programmes organised by the library over the past year. The presentation also underscored the library's efforts in promoting knowledge and cultivating a passion for reading within the community, while highlighting its pioneering role in advancing cultural and intellectual development within society. Throughout the year, the library attracted more than 700,000 visitors between individuals and public and private entities and welcomed 195 official and diplomatic delegations from the UAE and abroad.
