Islamic New Year 2025: UAE announces private sector holiday dates
The United Arab Emirates has announced the official private sector holiday date for Islamic New Year.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emitarisation (MOHRE) revealed that Friday June 27 will be the official Islamic New Year holiday for private sector workers.
While the exact start of the Islamic New Year won't be confirmed until a moon sighting on the evening of Wednesday June 25, the Islamic New Year holiday will be on Friday June 27.

The announcement means that private sector workers in the UAE will enjoy at least a three-day long weekend.
A post on Instagram from MOHRE read:
'We announce that Friday, June 27, will be an official paid holiday for all employees in the private sector across the UAE on the occasion of the Hijri New Year.'
The confirmation follows an announcement from The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, which originally announced that Friday June 27 would be a public holiday for all government employees.
The occasion of the Islamic New Year itself is yet to be confirmed, with a moon-sighting required to mark the first day of the month of Muharram and the start of the Hijri year 1447 AH.
The Islamic calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, unlike the more widely used Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun.
The lunar calendar is used predominantly by Muslims around the world to determine the dates of religious events and observances.
Current astronomical predictions indicate that the Islamic New Year date should fall on Thursday June 26 in the UAE, which would split the Dubai working week.
However, if Dhu Al Hijjah is a 30-day month, then Islamic New Year will fall on Friday June 27 instead.
