Art installation created by school children on display at Winchester Cathedral

An art installation, created by school children in Hampshire and East Dorset, is on display at Winchester Cathedral. More than 2,000 cardboard creatures have been handmade by pupils from over 100 church schools across the Diocese of Winchester. The installation was put up over two days using a cherry picker, in time to mark the end of the children's primary school education. Annual Year 6 Leavers' Celebration Days were held at the cathedral, for pupils from church schools, spanning from Basingstoke to Bournemouth. Bishop of Southampton, the Rt Revd Rhiannon King said: "It's been so wonderful to have schools from all over Winchester Diocese, all over Hampshire and East Dorset come to mark the end of their time in primary school, that transition which I think is really important for them. "They've all made these amazing creatures and we had them hung up from the ceiling and it's wonderful just to see all of those and to celebrate and rejoice with them today." The artwork was designed by the Diocese of Winchester's Education Team, as part of this year's schools project called TriWonder. Around 600 pupils attended each Leavers' Celebration Day and took part in workshops including calligraphy, archaeology and singing. Milly, aged 10, from Abbotts Ann Church of England Primary School, said: "It's mesmerising. They all have individual personalities. It was fun to write a prayer and know it will be up here for all to see. It was good to learn about the world as part of TriWonder and the sea, air and land and there is wonder in our world." Lawrie, aged 11, said: "It's really good how all the artwork has come together. It was fun to do, and we learnt all about protecting our world. We need to protect the air, sea and land equally because if we don't, they will all fail. It's good to come to this celebration today as this will be a lovely memory for all of us.' Diocesan Education Advisor, Sue Bowen, said: "The installation looks absolutely magnificent in Winchester Cathedral and is causing quite a stir. We've had a lot of tourists this week from all over the world who have seen it. "I spoke to one man who was visiting, as we were putting it up, and he remarked that in one of the oldest parts of the cathedral, we had work from some of the youngest children, and he said how inspirational he'd found it. "We have had five Leavers' Celebration Days and it's wonderful to just watch their faces as they walk in through the cathedral doors and see the magnificence of the building. It's a day that many of them say they remember forever." The artwork will be on display in Winchester Cathedral until 29th June.

Milly McCarthy creators bring teen's antics to Wicklow bookshop

Leona Forde and Karen Harte will be in the store on Saturday, June 7, to read from the latest Milly McCarthy book, where our heroine heads off to the Gaeltacht, in Wild Atlantic Antics. Milly McCarthy is a Complete Catastrophe was the first in the series of children's books, inspired by the eldest of writer Leona's four children, daughter Asha, who is now 15. The latest in the series focuses on that rite of passage for so many Irish teens, the stint in the Irish college. It's nearly the summer holidays and Milly's class is heading off on a school tour to the Gaeltacht in the West of Ireland. Milly can't wait to be away from home with her friends – but the teachers aren't quite so excited about the prospect, because Milly is a constant catastrophe waiting to happen. Told from Milly's perspective, there is a hike, a treasure hunt, a céilí, a rogue wasp, a large cowpat and a late-night game of truth or dare, so expect a giddy afternoon at this reading.

Saturday with Leona Forde: We are spoiled rotten with the phenomenal writers we have here

09.00 I naturally wake up about 9am unless my six-year-old daughter Indy comes in to wake me up. I am spoiled! Tony (Speight) my husband owns West Cork Coffee and it's a joke in my house that I don't get out of bed until there's a flat white brought to me. We get the Irish Examiner delivered so my ritual is to stay in bed, sip on my coffee and start with the Weekend magazine, then the Property section and then 'Books' are my business. Then I'll go from the front to the back of the paper and read the whole thing. 10.30 I'll get up around 10.30am – a big contrast with weekdays when the alarm goes off at 6.45am before there's people running around, fighting for the bathroom, someone remembers it's Green Day and needs a green t-shirt or can't find their soccer ball. It's chaotic during the week, so I like the chill of a Saturday. I tend to make a big breakfast such as eggs, tomatoes and sourdough or yoghurt and granola. During the week, a milky coffee gets me through till about 11am. 11.00 Our sons Rian and Isacc will go to soccer practice and then Isaac will go on to tennis and will meet up with his cousin there. While he's at tennis I'll nip to the WCC Brew Bar in Bandon which we also own and Tony will be popping in and out. Myself and Indy will then head over to the library to pick up the week's supply of books and then we'll pop to the market and the crepe stall which she loves. Then we'll all reconverge at home for lunch. 14.00 Indy has gotten into horse riding so I'll bring her to the stables where she'll meet her cousin. My sister lives quite close to us so the girls will have their pony session while myself and my sister catch up. When that's finished I'll collect my older daughter Asha to take her to her drama class. While she's in class, I'll do some writing. There's always random notebooks, envelopes with ideas, and receipts that are scribbled on in the car. I quite like the challenge of seeing how much I can get done in that hour. If I'm in the middle of a story I'll think of a 'What if' for my character Milly: 'What if it was raining?', 'What if someone came along?', 'What if Milly fell'...? If I can't think of anything at the time, I'll pop up a book from the back seat – as soon as I start reading other books, it usually sparks ideas. Milly has almost become another member of our family. My kids will say: 'What would Milly say to that?' or 'What part would Milly get in the play?. I've had lots of parents come up to me and say that they have a Milly in their family and I know that they have a kid who's larger than life. Some times all six of us will be at a food or a literarly festival. This summer is looking pretty hectic as Milly's Wild Atlantic Antics has just come out. 18.00 Myself and my husband might go out for an hour on a Saturday evening. My teenager is very good at minding the little ones and my sister often helps out with the minding. I love the Bay Leaf restaurant in Bandon.I'm vegetarian. Because I usually cook two dinners every day I like someone else to cook for me on a Saturday. If I'm cooking it will be nothing fancy – it's veggie pasta or a curry for myself and something else for the rest of them. My Mam does Sunday dinner in her house and the kids love going there because there's usually roast beef and chicken. 19.00 Sometimes I'll bring Asha to the Opera House or Tony might bring the boys to the cinema – we're usually doing tag team. If it's the summer we might go out together on a sunny evening. We'll drive to Inchydoney for a walk on the beach or we'll go to Castlefreke and the kids will run through the trails. 20.00 Indy will go to bed first and will demand a bedtime story. The others will go up around 9pm to read in bed. Myself and Tony will watch something on TV till about 11pm. I love to read before I go to sleep. I just finished a book called Dirty Laundry by Disha Bose - I really enjoyed it. I read anything and everything from kids books to YA fiction. I tend to favour Irish authors – I've only gotten into the literary scene in the past two or three years and I've gotten to meet lots of lovely people - we are spoiled rotten with the phenomenal writers we have here. I'll go to sleep as soon as my head hits the pillow – even more so on weekends because they're so busy and I'm so relaxed. Leona Forde is an English and History teacher and a children's writer who lives in Bandon with her husband Tony, founder of West Cork Coffee, and their four children. Leona's latest book Milly McCarthy's Wild Atlantic Antics , published by Gill, is in all good bookshops. Leona will be appearing today in Eason Mahon Point along with illustrator Karen Harte from 12pm.

Released just a day ago, the dark comedy is already creating buzz on social media. The show, with only five episodes, has gathered divided opinions from viewers. The series stars Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy and Milly Alcock as the lead characters in the series. Since its release, viewers have been flooding social media with their takes. While some praised the performances and tone, others felt the show missed the mark in certain areas. One viewer commented, 'Sirens isn't perfect, but its 3 leads make it worthwhile. It is a quick binge at only 5 episodes that has enough twists and effective humor that will make you feel satisfied. If 'Stepford Wives" is your cup of tea, you will dig this." Watching Sirens And Want To Know Where You've Seen Milly Alcock Before? We've Got You

If you haven't heard of Milly Alcock yet, the Australian actress who stars in the hit Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon , then where have you been? She is a rising star who has already been nominated for a Critics' Choice award and has just finished working with two of the biggest names in Hollywood. Here's everything you need to know about her – and when Sirens is out on Netflix. Milly Alcock, whose full name is Amelia Alcock, is an Australian actress from Sydney in New South Wales. She was first introduced to acting while playing Little Red Riding Hood in her infants school. Milly later dropped out of performing arts school in 2018 when she was cast in the Foxtel comedy drama Upright . Milly is 25 years old. She was born in April 2000. In 2022, Milly was cast in the HBO fantasy prequel, which is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin's fictional history book, Fire and Blood. She plays a young Princess Rhaenyra (later played by Emma D'Arcy). Alcock garnered critical acclaim for her role and has been called 'the shining star' of the series. Milly made her TV debut as a teenager in 2014 appearing in the Network Ten romcom Wonderland. She has also starred on Disney Channel in Australia from 2015 to 2017 and has acted in High Life and Janet King. She's also featured in the Showcase drama Fighting Season, as well as A Place to Call Home, Pine Gap on Netflix and in Les Norton on ABC. In January 2023, Milly appeared in the music video for 'Easy Now' by Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds. Last June, she made her West End debut in The Crucible at the Gielgud Theatre in London. As for what Milly plans to do next, in January it was announced that she will play Kara Zor-El/ Supergirl in the DC Universe film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow . She also acts opposite Julianne Moore and Meghann Fahy (who is famously dating heart throb Leo Woodall) in the Netflix dark comedy series, Sirens. The new dark comedy is already available to stream on Netflix and it's not one to miss. Set over Labour Day weekend, Sirens follows Devon (Fahy) on her journey to a lavish island where mansions and hydrangeas abound – and where she comes to realise that the surrounding waters are murkier than they first appear. Milly plays Simone DeWitt, Devon's sharp and charming younger sister who hit the jackpot by working as a personal assistant to a billionaire. Sirens is based on a play written by Molly Smith Metzler, who is the show runner behind the 2021 mega-hit Maid . Despite only just arriving on the streaming platform, Sirens has already divided the critics. The Guardian called it 'utterly addictive' and 'endlessly entertaining' as well as 'witty' and 'star-packed'. Variety was on a similar page, calling it 'funny, surreal and yet ultimately grounded in emotion enough to put The Perfect Couple out of mind entirely'. While The Independent has dubbed it 'disparate' with 'tonal shifts that come at breakneck speed'. And The Hollywood Reporter writes that 'much of Sirens is a slog'. It sounds like there's only one way to find out who's right... Another sign that she's got her head screwed on, there is little to no information about Milly's dating life online. According to Distractify, she was briefly linked to director Ari Kwasner-Catsi in 2019, but the relationship was not confirmed. Yes, you can keep up with Milly on Instagram at @millyalcock. She often shares her latest acting news, as well as glamorous photo shoots and the odd insight into her personal life. Nikki Peach is a writer at Grazia UK, working across entertainment, TV and news. She has also written for the i, i-D and the New Statesman Media Group and covers all things pop culture for Grazia (treating high and lowbrow with equal respect).
