Sarah Michelle Gellar, Allison Hannigan Say ‘Buffy' Reboot Will Honor Michelle Trachtenberg: ‘We'll Do What's Appropriate'
During an interview with Parade, actresses Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan addressed the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot — which was confirmed to be in the works for Hulu earlier this year — but the stars remained mum on details. 'I know never to say never, but I'm excited to hear what Sarah says it's like,' Hannigan said. More from IndieWire Lucie Arnaz Says 'You Can't Talk to Aaron Sorkin,' Reflecting on 'Being the Ricardos' - 'It Was So Wrong' With 'Good Night, and Good Luck' on CNN, George Clooney Trusts the Power of Live TV, One More Time 'That seems fair,' Gellar laughed. Gellar did confirm that the series would pay tribute to the late actress Michelle Trachtenberg, who played her younger sister Dawn Summers seasons 5 through 7. 'We'll be able to do something,' Gellar said. 'We'll do what's appropriate.' 'I'm sure it will be handled with utter grace,' Hannigan added. Gellar, who has reteamed with Hannigan for an awareness campaign surrounding meningitis vaccination, Ask2BSure, said that she and her former co-star share an easy rapport on set. 'We still finish each other's sentences. You know when I'm lost, and I know when you are,' she said. 'I think our … work habits are very similar, so when you approach things the same way, it just evolves.' 'Even shooting, I feel like we just had this … unspoken dialogue,' Hannigan said. Last month, Deadline reported that Ryan Kiera Armstrong would star alongside former cast members in the reboot's pilot — which so far is all that has been ordered. But Gellar was publicly resistant to the idea of a 'Buffy' reboot for many years, saying in 2022, 'I am very proud of the show that we created and it doesn't need to be done … We wrapped that up.' But Gellar flipped on the idea after hearing Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao's plan for the series' continuation. 'The passion that [she] came to me with, what she wanted to do with the show and the character, and why 'Buffy' is needed now — it was the first time where I thought, 'OK, there's a reason,'' Gellar told Elite Daily. In the same interview, she said the revival had been in the work for four years. 'We won't do it unless it's 100 percent right and there's 100 percent a reason,' she added. One place fans will not see Gellar is in the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' sequel, out July 18. The reboot's director said that Gellar resisted the idea of a return. 'I tried, OK? I harassed her! But she is dead,' Robinson told Entertainment Weekly. 'I tried to pitch some crazy shit too. I was like, 'What if it's like you weren't dead and you're actually alive, but in hiding?' And Sarah's like, 'I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.' I was like, 'Yeah, but what if?' And she said, 'I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.'' He also reached No. 26 on the now-defunct TikTok Billboard Top 50 in November with 'Jeans.' 2hollis served as the opening act for Ken Carson's The Chaos Tour last year. He performed at Coachella last weekend and is slated to perform at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza Chicago and Outside Lands. The multifaceted singer-songwriter-producer returns to Billboard's charts with her new single 'Tonight.' 'Tonight' is the lead single off her upcoming second mixtape, Fancy That, due May 9. PinkPantheress previously charted two tracks on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs: 'Way Back' with Skrillex and Trippie Redd reached No. 13 in January 2023, and Kaytranada's 'Snap My Finger' featuring PinkPantheress hit No. 40 last June. Her breakthrough collaboration with Ice Spice, 'Boy's a Liar, Pt. 2,' climbed to No. 3 on the Hot 100 in March 2023 and also spent a week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart. Rudimental and Khalid's new collaboration, 'All I Know,' debuts at No. 17 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs thanks almost entirely to its streaming sum: 958,000 in its first week, after it arrived April 4 via Rudimental/Room Two Recordings. The song earns British trio Rudimental its eighth entry on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, and first since 'Waterslides,' with Tiësto and Absolutely, last year. Notably, Rudimental appeared on the inaugural Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in 2013 with 'Feel the Love,' featuring John Newman. 'All I Know' earns Khalid his seventh entry on the chart, and first since 'The Hard Way,' with Pnau, in 2023. All three artists debut at No. 34 on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart with their collaboration 'Act of God.' Layton Giordani and Sarah de Warren claim their first-ever Billboard chart appearances and Linney her second, after her team-up with Tritonal, 'Electric Kids,' in 2020 (No. 32 peak on Dance/Mix Show Airplay). Released Jan. 24 on Experts Only, 'Act of God' arrives thanks to a 70% increase in plays (among 24/7 dance reporters and pop stations' mix show hours). Giordani hails from New York City, with his catalog centered on techno music. He has released two full-length albums: Where It Begins in 2017, and New Generation in 2020. He has collaborated with Anyma, deadmau5, Dom Dolla and Oliver Heldens, among others. Singer-songwriters Linney and de Warren have both lent their voices to other dance/electronic tracks. Linney has been releasing music for more than a decade and dropped her latest EP, We Dance (via Helix Records), in September. Warren's catalog also stretches back that long and includes collaborations with the likes of Hardwell, HI-LO and Weird Genius. Leighton Meester breaks her silence on ‘Gossip Girl' costar Michelle Trachtenberg's death
Leighton Meester is opening up about her former 'Gossip Girl' costar's shocking death. The actress, 39, shared that the news of Michelle Trachtenberg's death hit her particularly hard because they were the same age. 'It's devastating,' Meester revealed to Flaunt Magazine. 'She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It's very, very sad for everyone who knew her.' 6 Michelle Trachtenberg and Leighton Meester attend the grand opening celebration at American Eagle Outfitters, Times Square on November 17, 2009 in New York City. Getty Images The 'Good Cop/Bad Cop' star also reflected on the hit CW drama airing for six seasons from 2007 to 2012. 'Now, I can see that [the show's legacy] continues — in some ways, even more so than back then — to live on, which is incredible,' Meester told the outlet. On the series, the 'That's My Boy' actress played Blair Waldorf while the 'Harriet the Spy' alum starred as Georgina Sparks. 6 Leighton Meester (L) and Michelle Trachtenberg attend the 'You Know You Want It' publication celebration. Getty Images Penn Badgley, who portrayed Dan Humphrey, broke his silence on Trachtenberg's death, telling E! News in April that her passing was 'really surreal, really saddening.' 'What I remember of her is she was incredibly quick to laugh,' the actor, 38, added. 'She was really joyous.' Although they hadn't crossed paths in over 10 years, Badgley said Trachtenberg had a 'really pure heart.' 6 Michelle Trachtenberg, Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly attend the dinner for the NYLON celebration. Dimitrios Kambouris Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen), meanwhile, reminisced on Trachtenberg's 'electricity' on social media. 'You knew when she entered a room because the vibration changed,' the 'A Simple Favor' star wrote on her Instagram Stories in February. 'She laughed the fullest at someone's joked, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself.' Lively, 37, noted she'll remember how the late star 'always had yummy caramel smelling lipgloss on.' 6 Blake Lively, and Michelle Trachtenberg on 'Gossip Girl.' ©CW Network/Courtesy Everett Col 'Because she didn't just want to sparkle on camera,' she continued, 'she liked creating a nice experience for anyone who was in her orbit, even down to the subtle smell of her lipgloss because she cared about the sweet details.' Trachtenberg died due to complications from diabetes at age 39. She was found by her mother on Feb. 26 in her Central Park South apartment and had previously undergone a liver transplant in the last year. 'It is with great sadness [we] confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,' Trachtenberg's rep Gary Mantoosh confirmed in a statement to The Post. 'The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.' 6 Leighton Meester and Michelle Trachtenberg on 'Gossip Girl.' ©CW Network/Courtesy Everett Collection Sources initially speculated that the transplant might have played a part in her passing. The NYPD confirmed Trachtenberg was found 'unconscious and unresponsive' by police and pronounced dead by EMS workers. They responded to the building after a 911 call reporting a woman in cardiac arrest. In the months before her death, fans were concerned that Trachtenberg appeared gaunt in her social media pictures. But, last January, she responded to fan concerns, sharing she was 'happy and healthy' and had never had plastic surgery. 6 Michelle Trachtenberg. Instagram/michelletrachtenberg Many other fans and former co-stars took to social media to share their condolences over the heartbreaking death, including another 'Gossip Girl' vet, Ed Westwick. 'So sad to hear of the passing of @michelletrachtenberg,' the 37-year-old wrote on his Instagram Story alongside a snap of the late actress on the series.
