Why Wings are in serious trouble vs. Lynx, Napheesa Collier
The post Why Wings are in serious trouble vs. Lynx, Napheesa Collier appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Dallas Wings will host the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday afternoon. Upsetting the 8-0 Lynx was already going to be challenging enough for the 1-8 Wings, but Teaira McCowan's departure for EuroBasket will make matters even more difficult. Advertisement McCowan is set to play for Turkey in EuroBasket. Dallas' starting center has been 6'1″ Myisha Hines-Allen through the first nine games of the 2025 campaign. Having a 6'8″ backup such as McCowan gave the Wings pivotal depth, though. Now McCowan will miss the next few weeks of the WNBA season as she participates in EuroBasket. The good news is that center Luisa Geiselsoder, who has displayed encouraging signs of potential, is still on the roster for now. However, she will depart for EuroBasket on June 14. The Lynx were already expected to be the favorite heading into Sunday's contest against the Wings. McCowan's absence means there will be less defensive pressure against superstar Napheesa Collier. Hines-Allen will put up a fight, but the chances of her being able to contain the potential 2025 MVP are slim. Collier, 28, is simply a lethal scorer. She is averaging 25.1 points per outing on 52.5 percent shooting from the field and 40.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Collier is also recording per game averages of 8.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per outing. Advertisement It could end up being a long game for Dallas in the post with Collier preparing to play a team without McCowan. McCowan wouldn't have necessarily solved all of the Wings' defensive concerns against Minnesota, but she would have at least given the team much-needed size. Paige Bueckers could potentially return for the Lynx-Wings clash. The rookie, who has missed three consecutive games, has cleared concussion protocol but is still listed as probable due to an illness. Having Bueckers available would help the situation, but the guard won't make much of a defensive difference against Napheesa Collier. Wings losing 2 pivotal players to Eurobasket
The post Wings losing 2 pivotal players to Eurobasket appeared first on ClutchPoints. This month, a few WNBA teams will be losing key players due to Eurobasket. The Dallas Wings are one of the teams set to be without a few pivotal players for the next few weeks as both Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder are set to depart for Eurobasket, as per Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints. Advertisement Several NBA players are expected to compete on the men's side of Eurobasket. On the women's side, since their WNBA is in season during the summer, that will cause roster shortages for a few teams. The Wings will be temporarily losing frontcourt depth as Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder are both centers. McCowan will suit up for Turkey while Geiselsöder will be playing for Germany. McCowan is set to depart on June 14 while McCowan will leave on June 7. The absence of both players will leave the Wings without a true center on their roster. But so far this season, the team has not had a traditional center in their starting lineup. Forwards Myeshia Hines-Allen and NaLyssa Smith have been handling duties up front. For McCowan, this is her seventh season in the WNBA, and fourth with the Wings. She's appeared in eight games this season at a little over 13 minutes per game. She's averaging a career-low 4.9 points and 5.1 rebounds with splits of 56.7 percent shooting from the field and 71.4 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Geiselsöder was a late arrival to the Wings, having missed training camp due to overseas commitments. This is her rookie season in the WNBA after having been selected by the Wings with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft. Advertisement So far, Geiselsöder has appeared in three games at a little over nine minutes per game. She's averaged 2.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots with splits of 50 percent shooting from the field and 50 percent shooting from the three-point line. The Wings are currently 1-7 and hold the worst record in the WNBA. Rookie point guard Paige Bueckers was ruled out for the team's game against the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday as she continues to recover after being placed in league concussion protocol. Dallas Wings' coach hints at roster additions in near-future
The post Dallas Wings' coach hints at roster additions in near-future appeared first on ClutchPoints. ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Wings will lose two important players to EuroBasket soon as Teaira McCowan will play for Turkey and Luisa Geiselsoder will play for Germany. Wings head coach Chris Koclanes addressed the situation before Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Sparks, even going as far as to hint at a potential roster addition. Advertisement 'You've seen us tinker with all sorts of different lineups,' Koclanes told reporters. 'With Maddy (Siegrist) playing the four, been playing a lot of three here in the last couple games with Paige (Bueckers) and Ty (Harris) out… Just exploring all different combinations, playing a little smaller… We will see if we qualify for a hardship. We might go under nine at some point if those two (McCowan and Geiselsoder) are leaving so might be adding someone to the roster here, we will see.' The hope is that Paige Bueckers can return from injury soon. Tyasha Harris' injury remains uncertain, however. Even when both players return, though, Dallas will be without McCowan (departing for EuroBasket on June 7) and Geiselsoder (departing for EuroBasket on June 14) for multiple weeks. If the Wings do qualify for a hardship contract they will be able to bring in an additional player. Many teams around the WNBA are set to be impacted by EuroBasket departures, though, so the pursuit of available players will be crowded along the way. The Wings will need to add center depth amid McCowan and Geiselsoder's absences. Dallas is willing to play small-ball at times, but that strategy cannot be the only solution. Myisha Hines-Allen has been starting games at center, but she is only 6'1″. Dallas needs to add more size to the roster given the circumstances. Advertisement It will be interesting to see what roster moves the Wings end up making as they prepare for the departures of Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsoder. Dallas Wings Suffer Major Loss on Thursday
Dallas Wings Suffer Major Loss on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Wings have struggled to start the WNBA season, despite the addition of Paige Bueckers. Dallas currently sits at No. 13 in the WNBA standings, ranked as the bottom of the league during Bueckers' rookie season. Advertisement Bueckers was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick. She was set to make an immediate impact with the Wings but was recently sidelined with a concussion. The rookie has been on concussion protocol for the past two games, missing matchups against the Seattle Storm and the Chicago Sky. In the same conversation, the Wings will be missing a few other players in the midst of their disappointing season. According to a recent report, Dallas' only centers on the roster, Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiseloder, will miss time during the season, representing their national teams in EuroBasket. McCowan will reportedly depart on June 7 and is set to miss nine games for the Dallas Wings. Advertisement This marks a major loss for Dallas, since the 6-foot-7 center serves as one of the team's best defenders and certainly its best rim protector. Throughout the season, McCowan has posted 4.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. On the defensive end, McCowan has averaged 0.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. Dallas Wings guards Paige Bueckers (5) and DiJonai Carrington (21).David Butler II-Imagn Images As for Luisa Gieseloder, she is "likely" to miss six games. She spoke on her upcoming departure, mentioning that it's "sad" to leave the team, but she is "proud" to represent her country (Germany)." "I'm not going to lie, it's sad that I have to leave this team," Gieseloder said, per Joey Mistretta. "I just got here. It's sad, but at the same time I'm really proud and honored to represent my country in my country, so it's something big."
