Land of the Lost originated as a children's series which aired on NBC Saturday mornings for three seasons from 1974 to 1976, with CBS giving it a summer run in 1985 and 1987. In it, Rick was played by Spencer Milligan, with Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman as his kids, Will and Holly, respectively. Stop-motion animation was used for some of the creatures. Despite its relatively short run, Land of the Lost achieved cult status, keeping the title relevant. That led to a 1991 series remake, which aired for two seasons on ABC, and a 2009 feature film starring Will Ferrell. Sid and Marty Krofft produced both. While it does not have the extensive library traditional TV studios do, Netflix has taken on a few classic series titles. The streamer is currently filming a new Little House On the Prairie and previously rebooted Lost In Space and One Day At a Time. Legendary Television's current slate includes Dune: Prophecy at HBO, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters at Apple TV+ and the animated Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft at Netflix as well as Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim live-action series and an adaptation of Girls and Their Horses with Nicole Kidman — all in development at Amazon. A ‘Land of the Lost' reboot is officially in the works at Netflix
In the latest "everything is getting a reboot" news, "Land of the Lost" — the throwback sci-fi adventure series that ran for three seasons on NBC from 1974 to 1976 — is getting a modern-day remake. Deadline reports that Netflix has closed a deal with Legendary Television to make a spruced-up version of the show for streaming. Like the O.G. series, which was created by Sid and Marty Krofft, the Netflix reboot will reportedly center on the Marshall family. Scientist-father Rick (portrayed in the original by Spencer Milligan) and his two children, Will and Holly (Wesley Eure and Kathy Coleman, respectively), accidentally go through a dimensional portal and find themselves stranded in an alternative universe inhabited by dinosaurs, a primate-like people called Pakuni, and reptilian humanoids called Sleestak. The '70s series utilized both live-action acting as well as stop-motion animation to portray the mysterious land as well as its exotic inhabitants. The Netflix remake will be produced by Sid and Marty Krofft, as well as Marty's daughter Deanna Krofft Pope. As the project is reportedly still in the early stages, the streamer has not announced which actors will be portraying the Marshall clan, nor when fans of the cult-status sci-fi favorite could expect the new "Land of the Lost" project to drop on the platform. Speaking of, if you're having a bit of dinosaur déjà vu, you'd be forgiven: "Land of the Lost" was previously remade in 1991, running for two seasons on ABC and starring Timothy Bottoms, Jennifer Drugan and Robert Gavin as the renamed-Porter family. And the original series was also given the big-screen treatment in 2009 in an adult-focused parody feature directed by Brad Silberling and starring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel and Jorma Taccone. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The '09 flick, which was produced by the Krofft brother, was widely panned. It has a dismal 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and won a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel. Here's hoping Netflix has a bit more luck with their own "Land of the Lost" take — the streamer historically has had quite a bit of success in rebooting and remaking time-honored pop-culture properties, from "The Karate Kid" (see: six seasons of "Cobra Kai") to "The Addams Family" (the smash-hit "Wednesday," now in its second season). The streaming juggernaut is also currently filming a reboot of another classic TV series, "Little House on the Prairie." Tom's Guide will keep you updated on all things related to Netflix's "Land of the Lost," including casting intel, plot points, release-date news and more.

Netflix Dives Into Prehistoric Mayhem With a New LAND OF THE LOST Reboot — GeekTyrant
Looks like Netflix is headed into dinosaur territory again as Land of the Lost is officially getting a reboot. According to Variety, the series is in early development, with no writer currently attached. Original series creators Sid and Marty Krofft are back on board as executive producers, with Deanna Krofft Pope also producing. Legendary Television will handle production duties. The reboot marks yet another move by the streamer to breathe new life into vintage TV properties, and for fans of the weird and wild, Land of the Lost is about as wild and weird as it gets! Originally debuting on NBC in 1974, Land of the Lost followed the Marshall family, Rick and his two kids, Will and Holly, who find themselves stuck in an alternate dimension crawling with dinosaurs, strange alien ruins, and the iconic lizard-like Sleestaks. It only ran for three seasons but managed to cement itself as a cult classic thanks to its inventive effects, psychedelic world-building, and sheer Saturday-morning charm. I remember watching reruns of this as a kid, and I loved the show! The show featured Wesley Eure, Kathy Coleman, and Spencer Milligan as the Marshalls, with Philip Paley playing Cha-Ka, a friendly Pakuni. And yes, it was every bit as bizarre and awesome as that sounds. Land of the Lost has been rebooted before with a short-lived 1991 version that aired on ABC, and most famously, it was turned into a 2009 movie starring Will Ferrell, which leaned hard into the comedy and was met with mixed reactions. Netflix has been on a bit of a nostalgia streak lately. In addition to Land of the Lost , it's currently producing a Little House on the Prairie reboot and recently ordered a pilot for a Different World follow-up. Past revivals like Lost in Space , One Day at a Time , and Good Times have shown the streamer isn't afraid to revisit old favorites and try new angles. There's no word yet on casting or timeline, but if Netflix plays this right, we might just get a Land of the Lost that blends the original's high-concept adventure with the kind of modern sci-fi flair today's audiences are hungry for.
