All 10 Kolkata Police divisions to have cybercrime police stations

1 2 3 Kolkata: As cybercrimes and cyber threats surge across the city, Kolkata Police has begun planning "out-of-the-box" strategies to counter the menace. Besides rapidly modernizing itself and creating avenues to train more policemen with sophisticated modes of investigation, Lalbazar is also considering establishing a cybercrime police station in each of its 10 divisions. Although the exact launch date for these cyber stations is not yet determined, senior cops have initially agreed on the importance of creating these stations. Sources indicate that the process of identifying suitable buildings or locations for these stations in each division has already begun. Currently, Kolkata Police has only one cybercrime police station, located centrally at Lalbazar. Additionally, each division has a separate cyber unit that assists in solving various crimes and recovering mobile phones under the leadership of the divisional DCP. "There is no final decision yet on the role of these cyber units once the new cyber stations are established in each division. In all likelihood, these units will be expanded into full-fledged police stations. This will also solve the problem of lodging FIRs with local police stations, even as the cyber cell of the division handles the probe, leading to victims being forced to run around from one unit to another once essential recoveries are made," said a senior cop. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like BMW iX2 100% électrique BMW Voir les offres Undo Since this will entail huge manpower, the expansion is likely to occur in phases once the proposal is placed formally before the state administration and gets the necessary go-ahead, said the officers. Ever since Manoj Verma took charge as the commissioner of Kolkata, he has put a stronger emphasis on the cybercrime department, trying to return the duped amounts quickly and break the organised rackets. Cops start arresting bus drivers for rash driving to make city roads safer

Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police will now arrest bus drivers if they drive dangerously, in addition to imposing steep fines and recommending the temporary suspension of licences. According to the police, dangerous driving will include zigzag overtakes, jumping red signals, or driving well above the maximum speed limit. Even not allowing passengers to get on or off at the designated bus stop will amount to dangerous driving. The driver will be charged under BNS 281, pertaining to rash or negligent driving or riding on a public way. Although a similar drive began in 2021, it was discontinued following protests from bus operators. The first such case was registered at the Entally police station on Monday after the driver failed to stop at the designated bus stop. "It was around 8:45 am on Monday at the CIT Road-Ananda Palit Road crossing that I found a bus moving from north to south did not stop at the Paddapukur Island bus stop. The driver, Laxmi Kant Shaw, was arrested," the arrest memo stated. Senior officers are likely to meet over this issue since commissioner Manoj Verma has asked his officers at the monthly crime conference to take effective measures to keep the number of accidents at a minimum. Sources in the traffic police, however, said that a quick-fix solution will not be possible, but spot action will make drivers responsible. "Commercial vehicle drivers pass all fines to owners. That does not serve the purpose," said an officer. According to the police, if speeding can be curbed amongst commercial vehicle drivers, the wrong notion of blaming each accident on them will stop. "Accidents do not always happen due to negligence on the driver's part, and they often get blamed for no fault of theirs. The fact remains that pedestrians and passengers too come near the front left corner of the bus, which is traditionally a blind spot for the drivers. Additionally, on several occasions, resoled tyres and the condition of roads contribute to accidents. But by making spot arrests, we can at least send the message and make our intentions of making the roads safer clear to the citizens," said an officer.

Kolkata police tighten passport checks to crack down on illegal immigrants and ID fraud; address checks mandatory

Kolkata police tighten passport checks to crack down on illegal immigrants and ID fraud; address checks mandatory KOLKATA: Breaking the syndicates dealing with illegal immigration by identifying the gang heads and double-checking all received ID documents from the source to examine their authenticity were the two reasons behind the changes introduced in passport verification, said Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Verma on Thursday, stressing the aim was to ensure illegal immigrants could not stay on. "We have re-evaluated the passport verification system. Our primary target is to identify syndicate members and individuals involved in such illegal activities. Wherever documents are getting used, we are scrutinising and verifying them right back to their source," Verma. "The accused at times use different addresses for different cases. We are cross-checking Aadhaar addresses with other ID documents." Verma was speaking to reporters after planting saplings at the Alipore Bodyguard Lines on World Environment Day on Thursday. He urged citizens to plant at least 10 trees as a "contribution to society". Going back to passport verification, Verma pointed out that no new passport would be issued nor any old one renewed without an address visit. Even cops asking passport applicants to visit police stations would face action, Verma said. The SOP says all documents of a passport applicant will be uploaded on the portal to root out discrepancy. Applicants can monitor document verification status through a link provided by police. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

KP focus on ‘Bikash Bhavan-like protests'

1 2 3 Kolkata: Lalbazar has instructed all officers to remain vigilant, with a particular focus on intelligence gathering , to prevent a "Bikash Bhavan-like" protest. With the recent violence at the Kasba DI office still fresh in their minds, senior officers, led by commissioner Manoj Verma , have directed all police stations in Kolkata to be adequately prepared to handle flash protests. This was discussed at the monthly crime meeting on Saturday, with a review being conducted again on Monday. On the ground, Kolkata Police has decided to utilise not only the CCTV cameras monitored by the city force but also private ones to identify the movements of "outsiders" near Kasba District Inspector's office on April 9. Cops have also collected footage from shoulder cameras of officers present during the Kasba chaos. "Also under our radar are those who raised inflammatory slogans about burning down the office and those who later blocked Gariahat crossing on that day. We will send notices to these individuals after May 20," said an officer. Meanwhile, head of KP's detective department, Rupesh Kumar, has directed the force to launch a special operation against unresolved cases. In the meeting, commissioner Verma stated that some case diaries of sub-inspectors transferred from one police station to another remain incomplete, hindering investigations. Division deputy commissioners need to pay attention to this issue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ótimas notícias para os cidadãos brasileiros!
