We told you how Central Coast Mariners boss Mark Jackson was a name in the frame, with former Rangers star Charlie Adam also linked with the post. But Askou said: 'This is a really proud moment for me. 'It's a huge honour to be selected to become the manager of Motherwell Football Club. "Having spoken extensively with members of the club board, it was clear from the outset that our ideas, ambitions and morals align. 'We are all ambitious people, and we're all hungry for success. I can't wait to arrive in Scotland and begin planning for the season ahead. There is a lot of work to be done, but it's highly exciting.' Before joining Danish second-tier club Vendsyssel, Askou served as a player-assistant manager at both Skive and Thisted. He later took on the role of manager at Vendsyssel, where he got the club promoted to the Danish top-flight, before relocating to the Faroe Islands in 2019 to manage HB Tórshavn. During his first season with HB Tórshavn, Askou celebrated more managerial silverware, securing both the Faroese league title and the league cup, achieving a remarkable double. His impressive performance earned him the title of Manager of the Season in the Faroe Islands. Michael Wimmer set to QUIT Motherwell for new job after just TWELVE games as Scottish Premiership side left stunned After Tórshavn, Askou joined Danish club AC Horsens in 2021. Over the course of two seasons, he successfully guided the team back to Denmark's top division, his second promotion as a manager. In 2023, he made the transition to Sweden, taking the helm at IFK Göteborg in the Allsvenskan. Shortly after his arrival, he earned two Manager of the Month awards before he moved on to pastures new the following summer. Askou took on the role of assistant manager at Czech club Sparta Praha, where he spent six months and played a key role in leading the team to the league phase of the Champions League. In January 2025, he joined FC København as assistant manager, where he reached the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League but also secured the domestic double by winning both the league and the cup. Chairman Kyrk Macmillan said: 'This has been a more rigorous process to recruit our new manager due to the incredible number of applications for the role." 'We had a high number of impressive applicants, but we were really drawn to Jens. "His track record of working with big clubs, delivering success and developing young players matches up with all our philosophies here at Motherwell Football Club. "He has handed 26 teenagers debuts in five-and-a-half seasons, which I think is evidence of Jens implementing his ideas and morals. 'The data and numbers impressed us, but more importantly, after speaking with Jens a number of times, he is a really ambitious character and a leader who was extremely keen to get the role here at our club. 'We expect the UK work permit to be received in the coming days, and then he can commence his work on Day 1 of pre-season.' Shocked fans took to social media to express their surprise, with one saying simply: "Who?" Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Slot pulls out of award ceremony after Liverpool parade tragedy
LIVERPOOL: Liverpool manager Arne Slot opted against attending a ceremony in London where he was due to receive an award, saying he withdrew 'out of solidarity' with those affected in the team's city-center parade tragedy. Slot was named both the Premier League's Manager of the Season and the League Managers Association's Manager of the Year after guiding Liverpool to its record-tying 20th league title in his first season at the club. Hundreds of thousands of fans lined the streets of Liverpool on Monday to celebrate with the players as they paraded the trophy on open-top buses, only for joy to turn to anguish when a man rammed his car into a crowd of people. Sixty-five people were injured and 11 remained hospitalized Tuesday in stable condition. A 53-year-old British man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said, and was also being held on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving on drugs. On turning down the invitation to attend the LMA's award ceremony, Slot wrote in a letter: 'This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it is one that I feel is absolutely right given the seriousness of the situation." 'Football," he added, "is and always should be a game built on rivalry, but it is also a great source of comradeship, especially at times like this.' Slot also paid tribute to the emergency services, the authorities in Liverpool and 'supporters and bystanders who helped one another in an hour of need." 'I think everyone involved in the aftermath deserves the gratitude of all of us,' Slot said.

I need a break. I started in Saudi Arabia, it was not easy, tough work, and now it's not time to rest because we need to do a lot of work in the holidays.'

Pep Guardiola misses out on top Man City target and now has two back-up options
Manchester City have missed out on signing Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and are now weighing up moves for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and AC Milan's Tijjani Reijnders Manchester City have missed out Pep Guardiola's top transfer target after pulling out of the race to sign Florian Wirtz, with the club now turning their attention to two potential alternative options. City were targeting Wirtz as a replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, but they are no longer pursuing the playmaker due to financial concerns over the deal. Bayer Leverkusen are hoping to bank as much as £126million for Wirtz and City are unwilling to meet their demands, with it claimed the total financial package could amount to £250m with wages included. According to a report from the Times, City are now weighing up moves for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and AC Milan's Tijjani Reijnders. The report states that Reijnders is available for around £55m. Gibbs-White, meanwhile, has starred for Forest in their bid for European football this season. The 25-year-old has made 17 goal contributions in 33 league appearances for Forest so far. They currently sit seventh in the league, although just one point separates them from third-placed Newcastle heading into their final game of the season against Chelsea on Sunday. Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo was recently quizzed about Gibbs-White's future and insisted the midfielder remains happy at the City Ground. "Normally, me personally, I think during the competition it is not healthy to speak or to approach other players of other teams," he said. "Regarding Morgan, I see him happy and I see him working hard. I see him focused. Morgan is one of the players that because we know each other so well and for so long, we don't have to speak. "But I see him well. Just leave Morgan to do his job and enjoy his football. When he does it, it is amazing." Gibbs-White is among the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Season award alongside Forest team-mate Chris Wood, Newcastle's Alexander Isak, Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, Arsenal's Declan Rice and Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch. Espirito Santo has also been nominated for the Manager of the Season award, while Forest winger Anthony Elanga is up for the Young Player of the Season award.
