Bayer Leverkusen pushing to sign Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah
kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen are pushing to sign Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah this summer. After the departures of Jonathan Tah and Odilon Kossounou, Leverkusen are short on defensive numbers. die Werkself need not only a replacement for the German but also need to boost their numbers in the backline. Advertisement Leverkusen have identified Quansah and AC Milan's Malick Thiaw as their top two targets in the defence. Quansah is currently the name that is linked the most with a move to the BayArena. Talks are said to be already underway for the 22-year-old. However, Leverkusen will not pay the €45m reported fee for the defender and would prefer a fee of €30m, which would still make Quansah Leverkusen's most expensive defender. When it comes to who will be the 'leader' of the Leverkusen defence going forward, that role could fall upon Edmond Tapsoba or Piero Hincapie; either can use the opportunity to further develop themselves in a quasi-leadership role. Then, when it comes to defensive numbers, Leverkusen also have Jeanuël Belocian and Axel Tape, who are on the younger side and can provide depth. GGFN | Jack Meenan

Report: Xhaka gives green light for Milan move
Reports linking Bayer Leverkusen star Granit Xhaka with AC Milan are intensifying. Sportmediaset now reports that the Swiss international has now given his approval for a move to Italy. Milan are hopeful that Xhaka's commitment will help persuade Leverkusen to accept the transfer. Advertisement However, Sport Bild reports that Leverkusen are currently unwilling to part ways with the experienced midfielder. Die Werkself have already lost Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich and Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool, while Florian Wirtz is also expected to join the Premier League side. One possible route to unlocking the deal could be a swap, with Leverkusen reportedly interested in Milan defender Malick Thiaw. Xhaka cast doubt on his future with Leverkusen earlier this month, saying: 'You never know what the future holds in football. But as of today, I'll stay. What happens tomorrow, I can't guarantee.'

The Rossoneri can also lower the cost of the operation by including defender Thiaw as part of the deal. Bayer Leverkusen consider Malick Thiaw and Mario Hermoso as new centre back additions
Bayer Leverkusen consider Malick Thiaw and Mario Hermoso as new centre back additions Bayer Leverkusen are continuing their search for another centre back after the departure of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich was recently announced. A centre back has already been brought into the club as yesterday the signing of Tim Oermann from Bochum was announced. Advertisement Another defender is needed at the club though as Mario Hermoso has now returned from his loan spell in addition to Tah leaving. Despite this, the signing of Hermoso on a permanent deal is being considered. The Spaniard joined Leverkusen for the second half of the 2024/25 season from AS Roma and made seven appearances. Another defender being considered is AC Milan centre back Malick Thiaw. Milan have failed to qualify for European football this season, meaning that some players may have to be sold in order for a rebuild to take place. The 23-year-old has previous experience in German football as he made 61 appearances for Schalke 04.
