‘Will you now enter bedrooms?': Row over private photos escalates in Punjab, AAP minister Ravjot Singh files police plaint against SAD leader Bikram Majithia
JALANDHAR: Punjab local bodies minister Ravjot Singh announced on Wednesday that a formal police complaint has been lodged against senior (SAD) leader for posting his "edited" personal photographs on social media accounts seeking to "scandalise and defame him". Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Calling Majithia "an irrelevant leader from an irrelevant party raising an irrelevant issue," the minister, addressing a press conference, sought to give the issue a casteist angle, saying that Majithia was targeting Scheduled Caste (SC) leaders of the AAP. He mentioned minister Lal Chand Kataruchak and former minister Balkar Singh, whose "sleazy videos" were earlier released by Majithia. All three hail from the SC community. He claimed that Majithia had a history of oppressing SCs and Dalits during his tenure in power, while the AAP govt was a supporter of the two communities. He said that Majithia circulated these photographs when AAP was set to win the Ludhiana West byelection. "The photograph shared on social media is a disgraceful and unethical attempt to mislead the public and defame me. This woman is someone's daughter, mother, or sister. This act is not just an attack on me but an insult to all women. Such tactics reflect the low level of politics practised by such leaders," said Ravjot, flanked by AAP state general secretary Deepak Bali and local AAP leader Tarandeep Sunny. He said that the photographs in question were eight to 10 years old and feature his ex-wife. He reiterated claims that the pictures were "edited". He said that releasing such photographs amounted to insulting women and his former wife was suffering ignominy without any fault of hers. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said he was leaving the matter in the court of God and the people. Wrong to bring casteism angle: Channi Jalandhar MP and former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi has sought to debunk attempts by local bodies minister Ravjot Singh and AAP to introduce a caste angle into the recent controversy surrounding alleged "sleazy photographs". In a statement posted on his X handle, Channi said, "One after the other obscene videos of ministers coming out are a grave disrespect to women. It is wrong to link this issue with casteism in any way. It would be better if the entire AAP party apologises and resigns." 'Pics morphed': Another minister slams Majithia Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and minister for minister for good governance and information technology Aman Arora on Wednesday slammed Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia for putting out "private" and "morphed" pictures of his cabinet colleague Ravjot Singh in the public domain. "I never anticipated that someone could take politics to such a low level. This is not right," Arora said while responding to a question on the issue during a press conference here. When asked if the row had dented the party's image, Arora said: "Dr Ravjot Singh has already clarified that these were his private photos with his ex-wife, which were being posted on social media after AI morphing. How will this dent the party's image?" Rather, Arora added: "This raises a question mark on the character of the person who is posting these photos. Will they resort to such a low level of politics?" "Why does Majithia get such photos or news just two days ahead of the elections," he asked. "I mean, it is a very sorry state of affairs. Only a handful, two or four leaders of Punjab, one can count on fingers, resort to such a low level of politics." Arora further asked: "Will they even enter the bedrooms of people? It is ridiculous. What these people are doing is total nonsense."

Punjab: Majithia's close aide Sabi joins Congress
Three leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal, including Sarbjot Singh Sabi, considered a close confidante of Bikram Singh Majithia, joined Congress on Monday. The other two leaders are Rajinder Deepa from Sunam and Anil Thakur from Mukerian. They were inducted into the party fold by the Congress general secretary and in-charge Punjab affairs Bhupesh Bhagel in the presence of the state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, leader of Opposition in Punjab assembly Partap Singh Bajwa and other senior party leaders. Sabi, 47, had unsuccessfully contested the 2022 assembly election from Mukerian constituency and bagged nearly 30,000 votes. Sabi had joined Akali Dal at a young age and was appointed circle president of SAD when he was barely 22. He went on to become Hoshiarpur district president and Doaba zonal president. He also remained chairman of Hoshiarpur zila parishad. The move has come as a big jolt to SAD, which is struggling to resurrect itself after suffering setbacks on political and panthic fronts. Sources close to Sabi said Majithia was in the know of his decision. Along with Majithia, Sabi had openly opposed the unceremonious removal of Giani Raghbir Singh as Akal Takht jathedar, which had irked SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Talking to HT, Sabi said that SAD leadership itself was responsible for the party's downfall and it has lost the trust of the Sikh community. 'I had urged Sukhbir long back to seek forgiveness from the community for the wrongs but he did not pay any heed. Even today he has not mended his ways,' Sabi said, alleging that the SAD leaders were now trying to cosy up with the BJP, a party they abused all these years. 'It is difficult to work with such two-faced people', he said. Sabi said that the Congress still worked within a system and its biggest asset was its secular credentials. Asked if he would seek Congress' ticket for the next assembly polls, he said it was for the party to decide. 'My job is to work and I will put in my best efforts', he added. Bhagel said it's a sign that Congress is making a comeback in Punjab. 'Coming events cast their shadow,' he remarked while suggesting that senior leaders from other political parties were looking forward to joining the Congress. 'This is just the beginning as the winds of change have started blowing in Punjab', Warring said, adding that people of the state were fed up with the current AAP regime. Bajwa said that the three leaders would further strengthen the Congress in Punjab.

Arvind Kejriwal has reduced Bhagwant Mann to rubber stamp: Bikram Singh Majithia
Ludhiana: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader, , claimed on Sunday that chief minister had been "reduced to a rubber stamp" with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener announcing that Sanjeev Arora would be made a minister in case he won the bypoll. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing a press conference with Sikandar Singh Maluka, whose return he welcomed, he said that it was a sign that Akali leaders were uniting to raise their voice for Punjab. Senior leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon was also present on the occasion. Asserting that Kejriwal's announcement was a clear indication that Bhagwant Mann was a mere figurehead now, Majithia said, "It is also a sign of desperation. The announcement was made because AAP realises that Sanjeev Arora is losing the election and therefore, Kejriwal's chances of entering the Rajya Sabha are thinning." Majithia said that AAP was losing because Punjabis realised that the Delhi model had failed. "The state incurred a record Rs one lakh crore debt under the AAP government, pushing the total debt to Rs four lakh crore. The state is witnessing a financial emergency with the government calling back all funds from various departments to save itself from defaulting on loans. This resulted in a complete halt to all development work. " Majithia said that the industrial sector was also becoming unviable, with power being given to this sector being the most expensive in the country. "The culture of extortion and targeted killing, along with a state of lawlessness, is resulting in home-grown industrialists shifting to other states." Majithia alleged that people felt cheated by the AAP government. "Government employees were promised the Own Pension Scheme (OPS), and a notification was also issued in this regard, but it is still to be implemented. The promise of Rs 1,000 per month allowance to women has not been implemented for four years," the SAD leader added. MSID:: 121863319 413 |

Ludhiana: Govt driving state into a fiscal mess, says Majithia
Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Sunday, while taking the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government in his crosshairs, accused it of driving the state into a financial and administrative crisis. He also raised concerns about internal dissent within SAD, alleging that some members were aiding the opposition, either directly or indirectly. Addressing a press conference in Ludhiana, Majithia expressed dismay over the actions of senior SAD leader Manpreet Singh Ayali, hinting that his conduct was harming the party's prospects. 'Any attempt to create divisions at this crucial time only benefits the opposition,' he said, without naming Ayali explicitly. Welcoming veteran leader Sikandar Singh Maluka back into the party fold, Majithia said the move signalled a growing realisation among seasoned Akali leaders that unity was the need of the hour. 'Punjabis are calling on their leaders to come together and raise their voice for Punjab. This homecoming sends a strong message,' he said. Senior leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon was also present at the press interaction. Lashing out at AAP's much-publicised Delhi model of governance, Majithia said it had failed to deliver in Punjab. 'People have now realised there is no model. Instead, the state has slipped into a debt trap,' he said. Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle extends support to SAD In a major boost to SAD campaign in Ludhiana West , the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle (GGSSC) extended its support to the party's candidate Parupkar Singh Ghuman. This development occurred after SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal held a detailed meeting with office bearers of the GGSSC here. Shiromani committee president Harjinder Singh Dhami and senior Delhi-based leader Manjit Singh GK were also part of the meeting. 'Once the SAD, which represents regional aspirations is strengthened, we can strive to resolve all pending issues of Sikhs', Sukhbir asserted. He also thanked GGSSC for assuring to support the SAD which stood for the Panth, Punjab and Punjabiyat. GGSSC members said they wanted a strong regional party to represent the community as well as Punjab and assured to support Ghuman wholeheartedly.
