2025 Indianapolis Colts roster preview: CB JuJu Brents
Let's take a closer look at this Indianapolis Colts team as we go player-by-player through the roster. Up next is CB JuJu Brents. With offseason programs now behind us, we will be getting a jump start on our training camp preview by going player-by-player through the Indianapolis Colts' 91-man roster. Going alphabetically, up next is cornerback JuJu Brents. JuJu Brents' profile 2024 Snap count totals 2024 PFF grades 2024 Season Review After appearing in only nine regular season games during his rookie season in 2023, Brents, unfortunately, dealt with another injury for much of the 2024 season. An MCL injury that Brents sustained in the Colts' season opener last year against Houston landed him on injured reserve until Week 18, Indianapolis' regular season finale against Jacksonville. A groin injury in that game would then limit Brents to only six defensive snaps. Looking ahead to the 2025 season Brents, along with Jaylon Jones, Justin Walley, and potentially others, will be competing for the starting outside cornerback position opposite of Charvarius Ward. While there will be a starter on paper, I do think that we could see some mixing and matching here from Lou Anarumo, depending upon who the opponent is and what the matchup dictates. This is going to be a more aggressive Colts' defense in this new scheme, and it's a play style that Brents believes suits his skill set quite well. However, the big thing for Brents, as Shane Steichen said, is staying healthy and on the football field. Although he is now entering his third NFL season, due to injuries, he's still a relatively inexperienced player in terms of in-game reps. So when it comes to earning playing time in this new-look defense, being on the practice field is vital. "He's been good," Steichen said of Brents this offseason. "Sticky in coverage. Obviously, has been battling injuries through his career, so hopefully this is a clear slate for him, going into this season, into this training camp, and staying healthy is going to be the biggest thing for him."

LeBron James appears to confirm his return, says he's focused on getting knee healthy for training camp
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has accepted his player option yet, but it certainly sounds like he's going to play in the NBA next season. James gave an update on his knee injury Tuesday, saying he's feeling "good" and is focused on making sure his knee is right in time for training camp, per the Associated Press. James, 40, is recovering after sustaining an MCL injury during the team's elimination game vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves. He appeared to injure his left knee after running into Timberwolves guard Dante DiVincenzo. James initially left the contest, but was able to return and play down the stretch. Advertisement The Lakers lost the game 103-96 and were eliminated from the playoffs. After the loss, James said he wasn't ready to make any decisions about his future. While James hasn't commented on his plans since then, many expect him to opt into his $52.2 million player option and return to the Lakers. James didn't comment on his contract situation, but did make it clear he's hoping to be 100 percent healthy by training camp, per the Associated Press. "I have a lot of time to take care of my injury, my knee, the rest of my body and make sure I'm as close to 100 percent as possible when training camp begins in late September," James told the AP. That does seem to confirm James will return for his 23rd NBA season. Most expected that would be the case, but the injury — combined with James' age — added some murkiness to the situation. James admitted he knows the end of his career is coming soon, saying he's going to wait and see how his body bounces back and how his family feels before determining how long he wants to keep playing. "At this point of my career, you think about when the end is. That's human nature," he said. "You think, is it this year? Or next year? Those thoughts always creep into your mind at this point of the journey. But I have not given it a specific timetable, date. I'm seeing how my body and family reacts too." Despite his age, James didn't show any signs of decline last season. He averaged 24.4 points and 8.2 assists in 70 games. That performance earned James his 21st selection to the NBA All-Star Game.

John Lynch expresses confidence in WRs while Brandon Aiyuk recovers
The 49ers' top receiver Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from a torn ACL and MCL suffered midway through the 2024 season. Given the severity of the injury, it's unlikely that Aiyuk will be ready for Week 1. But San Francisco General Manager John Lynch said in an interview with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area that he's confident in the club's next men up — like Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall. 'We always keep a look for what's out there, but we do like our group,' Lynch said, via David Bonilla of 'I think, first of all, you start with Jauan. Jauan had a tremendous season last year. He's been a tremendous competitor, player for us since he's been here. I think the fans, the team feed off Jauan's energy. He plays football the right way. I love his style. 'Ricky is a really ascending player we're excited about. Just scratched the surface of who he could be. And Ricky's going to play well for us this year. I'm confident in that. He's going to seize that opportunity that he has.' Lynch also noted that Jacob Cowing, rookie Jordan Watkins, and Demarcus Robinson all have a chance to contribute. 'So, in total, there's opportunity out there, and then we'll have a gift when B.A. comes back, whenever that is,' Lynch said. 'But these guys, we're comfortable and confident in their ability to get the job done until that time.' Jennings was second on the team last season with 77 receptions, 975 receiving yards, and six touchdowns, playing in 15 games. Pearsall appeared in 11 games with four starts and caught 31 passes for 400 yards with three TDs.

49ers GM provides positive update on injured WR's recovery from ACL
49ers GM provides positive update on injured WR's recovery from ACL Before the 2024 season started, the San Francisco 49ers gave wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who had been holding in for a new deal, a four-year, $120 million extension, that made him one of the highest paid players in the league at his position. However, after just seven games and 25 receptions for 374 yards, Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL against the Kansas City Chiefs, ending his season and putting the start of his 2025 campaign in jeopardy. With San Francisco also trading wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round selection (used on Oregon running back Jordan James) in the 2025 NFL draft, Aiyuk's recovery is very important for the team's immediate success. Late last week, 49ers general manager John Lynch appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" and gave a positive update on Aiyuk's rehab process as organized team activities came to a close. 'Brandon's doing a tremendous job coming back," Lynch said. "These guys that are incredibly skilled athletes, they tend to heal a lot faster. It's kind of incredible how well he's healing, and he's putting in the work. We're proud of Brandon, and we're looking forward to him being part of this team moving forward. We made a big investment in him. We're proud to have him part of our franchise, and looking for big things from him. And we're gonna let him get right before we get him back on that field. But he's an important part of this team.' Aiyuk's been one of the best receivers in the league since San Francisco took him in the first round (No. 25 overall) of the 2020 NFL draft out of Arizona State. In 69 career games over five years, he's caught 294 passes for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns while being the team's second or third target, behind Samuel and tight end George Kittle. If he's not good to go for Week 1, recently-extended quarterback Brock Purdy could be stepping on the field with Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, Demarcus Robinson and Jacob Cowing as his top four wideouts. That's not exactly ideal for a team that's looking to crawl out of the basement of their division and make it back to the postseason in 2025.
