EXCLUSIVE Celebrity stylist reveals what to wear to the races this summer and the fashion trend you should definitely avoid

Glorious summer weather has finally arrived in the UK, which means horse-racing season is firmly upon us. With the The Debenhams July Festival kicking off next month, as well as Goodwood Festival and Sandown Park's Ladies Day, glamorous guests will be donning their finery and heading out for a day of fun. So there's no time to waste to find that perfect ensemble ready for a jam-packed day of racing action. Such events - including this week's Royal Ascot - provide a rare opportunity for people to dress up in elegant, bold or vibrant occasionwear - with revellers urged to 'dress to impress' at most racecourses. But styling a polished head-to-toe look can feel overwhelming. Thankfully, celebrity stylists Lisa Talbot and Rochelle White have revealed to FEMAIL the top trends that inspiring fashionistas will be sporting this season. This year, the 'power of pastels' will shine through, with Lisa insisting: 'Soft sorbet shades like lavender, lemon, and powder blue are having a major moment. They feel fresh, feminine, and perfectly suited to a sunny day at the races.' For a firm fan-favourite, racegoers should opt for florals, which are 'always a race day favourite', according to the fashion expert. Read on for the experts' top tips on what to wear to the races this summer - including some of the best options from the British High Street... 1. EMBRACE FLORALS WITH A TWIST Lisa said: 'Florals are always a race day favourite, but this summer it's all about oversized blooms, blurred prints, or bold graphic botanicals. 'Look for sculptural silhouettes or asymmetric cuts to give your florals a fashion-forward edge. Think Erdem meets edgy. 'Pair a romantic floral midi with sleek accessories in neutral tones to avoid looking too "girly". Add a structured bag for polish.' Rochelle echoed this, adding: 'I feel that floral prints are always a favourite across many race days. They offer a soft and botanical feel no matter where you attend. 'The styles tend to be flowing and flattering, such as wrap style, ruffle detail across some and even mid or maxi length. Brands such as Ghost London, Nobody's Child and Oasis are good for this look. 'It's best to team these styles with wedges, floral headpieces or fascinators,' suggested the stylist. Holland Cooper's Paloma Maxi Dress £179 Shop Friends Like These Red Floral Flutter Sleeve Empire Midi Dress £59 Shop Karen Millen Applique And Beaded Linen Woven Midi Dress With Tie Back Detail £279 Shop Wolf's Evie Small Bag £189 Shop 2. POWER OF PASTELS 'Pastels are another big trend for summer 2025,' revealed Rochelle. 'Pastel perfection is all about the dreamy hues of pale blues, blush pinks and light yellow - these are having a moment. 'They bring a fresh and fairy-feel to the races even on cloudy days. I would suggest breathable fabrics, such as pleats and floaty styles and adding layering on top if it's not such a warm day. Brands that do this well this year are River Island and Monsoon.' Lisa, meanwhile, suggested mixing pastels for a 'tonal look, or ground the sweetness with sharp tailoring, think a pastel trouser suit or a structured shift dress'. Wallis' Midi Shirt Dress £75 Shop Oasis Halter Neck Chiffon Tiered Maxi Dress £69 Shop Holland Cooper's Paros Shirt Dress £299 Shop Hope & Ivy Vera Wrap Maxi Dress £140 Shop 3. MONOCHROME MAGIC 'Monochrome is timeless, chic and easy to pull off,' explained Lisa. 'Whether it's all white, bold black-and-white contrast, or colour-blocked brights, this look always delivers impact. 'Choose strong silhouettes like a wide-leg trouser with a one-shoulder top to make a monochrome outfit feel race-day ready. Finish with a statement hat or headband.' 'Monochrome never really goes out of style,' agreed Rochelle. 'And is suitable for so many occasions. 'Think bold, think timeless chic,' said the fashion expert, adding that fitted or structured tailoring would work best with this look, or polka dot prints. Holland Cooper's Ariella Midi Dress £249.00 Shop Phase Eight's Delie Spot Dress £199 Shop Radley's Under The Sea handbag £259 Shop Ghost London Maxi Dress £179 Shop 'Pillarbox hats, oversized glasses and very subtle jewelry,' also add to the monochrome look, said Rochell. 'Karen Millen and Reiss are great for this. You could even team this with statement hats that are oversized.' 4. NEUTRAL ELEGANCE Lisa urged racegoers to not 'underestimate the power of camel, oat, stone, and biscuit tones'. 'Understated and elegant, neutrals offer a more refined take on race day dressing,' explained the celebrity stylist. 'Layer different neutral tones for a luxury look. Add interest with textures, lace, linen, silk and finish with gold accessories,' suggested Lisa. Rochelle agreed, saying: 'If you're looking for a more understated look, and bright colours, prints and pastels aren't your thing, this is a great alternative. 'You can mix up fabrics and add in textures like cashmere and even silk. Brands such as COS and Mango do this well. Nobody's Child Cream One Shoulder Drop Waist Trent Midi Dress £110 Shop ME+EM Silk Lily Of The Valley Print Ruffle Maxi Dress + Bandeau £550 Shop 'It could even be elevated with gold jewellery, designer elements such as bags, glasses and side scarfs, mixing it with traditional headwear or a hair accessory or clip.' 5. TAILORING WITH A TWIST 'Whether it's a belted blazer dress or a fluid co-ord, tailoring offers comfort, structure, and style in one. It's a sharp choice for those who want to stand out without a dress,' said Lucy. She added that racegoers should pick lighter fabrics like linen blends or soft crepe for breathability. The fashion expert also suggested teaming any tailored outfit with a bold heel or coloured clutch to soften the look. Meanwhile, Rochelle suggested the 'humble jumpsuit could be the perfect pick for this summer at the races'. 'Jumpsuits are contemporary and offer a chic classic look. With so many varied styles such as tailored and wide or straight leg, they can provide comfort, elegance and confidence. 'These can be paired with heels or wedges, with either an oversized or angular hat that adds the sharpness to the fit. Brands who do this well are House of CB, ME+EM and Holland Cooper.' Phase Eight's Maxine Spot Chiffon Jumpsuit £149 Shop Reiss Salma Jumpsuit £268 Shop Holland Cooper's Knightsbridge Blazer £349 Shop 6. STATEMENT COLOUR 'From cobalt blue to cherry red and emerald green, a hit of bold colour guarantees you'll turn heads at the paddock,' revealed Lisa. She said that racegoers should keep their 'silhouette simple to let the colour shine'. 'Pair with metallic or nude heels to keep the look grounded,' explained the stylist. 'If you're someone who wants to stand out or make a statement, this could be a good look,' Rochelle echoed. '2025 has seen a big push on bold colours in fashion and many people are embracing the colour block trend. 'Bright pinks, cobalt blue, emerald green and burnt orange are really the go-to for this summer. They can be styled either mixed and matched or bold blocking. 'Crisp white, gold or metallic accessories work well with this look. Brands such as Whistles and & Other Stories do this well.' 7. BOLD ACCESSORIES Coast at Debenhams' Lace Panelled Long Sleeve Dress £139 Shop Phase Eight's Suede Twist Sandal £99 Shop £89.95 Shop Fairfax & Favor Mini Windsor bag £275 Shop 'Millinery takes centre stage at the races,' revealed Lisa. 'Think oversized bows, sculptural headbands, or sleek pillbox hats.' The fashion expert also suggested that statement earrings and embellished clutches add extra glamour to any look. 'Let your accessories do the talking. If your outfit is bold, keep your hat or fascinator refined or vice versa,' the celebrity stylist insisted.

Stylist reveals the fashion trends to follow if you want look luxurious this summer - and it doesn't have to break the bank

We're heading towards the summer season, and fashionistas will be busily curating their wardrobes to keep up with the trends. Sticking to softer colours and delicate patterns could help elevate your ensembles in the warmer months, with stylists detailing just how to curate a luxurious outfit - without necessarily breaking the bank. One trend heading back to the high street is boho; a revival of the free-spirited aesthetic with its suede boots, flowy dresses and very oversized sunglasses. Its a softer, more refined version of the noughties vibe - defined by billowing sleeves and flowing layers, and definitely spearheaded by Parisian designer Chloé. At two ends of the spectrum, both mocha brown and soft pastels are having their moment, with brands designing shoes, bags and accessories in the unusual hues. Award winning personal stylist Lisa Talbot notes that 'dusty pinks, pale lemon, mint, and sky blue are trending and perfect for that elegant summer vibe'. 'Stick to one or two shades per outfit to avoid looking overdone,' she said. The stylist also told Femail that the oversized, structured shirt is back this season - but stick to pinstripes, soft pastels, or crisp white hues. Boho chic White Embroidered Trim Oversized Batwing Blouse - New Look £33.99 Shop Orange Floral Print Maxi Dress - Mint Velvet £130 Shop One of the most notable trends of the summer is a resurgence of Boho. But rather than the noughties style we all know and love, this 2025 version has a 'modern, edited twist', says UK-based stylist Rochelle White. She told Femail: 'It's moved on from the frayed looked to more elegance, thinking less festival more Ibiza or gallery opening vibe. 'Many brands have understood that like Chloe, as they seem to have created the modern boho chic with brand Ulla Johnson helping to redefine it. 'With better designs, craftmanship that really plays into the contemporary edit.' Soft pastels Butter Yellow Bandeau Felicity Midi Dress - Nobody's Child £89 Shop Kira Scoop Neck Sleeveless Midi Dress - Saint Tropez £39.99 Shop It's not uncommon for pastel colours to fill the high street at this time of year. But, Rochelle notes, this summer is leaning into the softer, subtle hues. She explains there are 'a lot of dusty or light colours such as blue, blush pink, lavender and buttery yellow '. Rochelle said: 'White I believe will always have a place, but for people looking for and wanting a bit more colour, without it being too bright, these are great alternatives.' Statement shirt Poplin Shirt in Pinstripe Blue - H&M £22.99 Shop Cropped Cotton Shirt in White - Mango £45.99 Shop Another trend heading back to stores in time for summer is the oversized, structured shirt look. Award winning personal stylist Lisa Talbot notes that these are best worn 'loosely over wide-leg trousers or over swimwear at lunch'. Though its a classic style, Lisa recommends fashionistas stick to 'pinstripes, soft pastels, or crisp white for maximum impact' this season. Tailored linen Linen Suit Waistcoat - Mango £49.99 Shop Stone Linen Blend Blazer - New Look £45.99 Shop Linen is a staple in the summertime, helping keep you cool on long, hot days. Most might opt for chic linen trousers, but personal stylist Lisa Talbot told Femail that tailored pieces are on trend for the upcoming season. She said: 'Linen is a summer staple, but opt for tailored linen pieces - like waistcoats or blazers - instead of slouchy fits. 'You'll still stay cool but look infinitely more polished.' Wedge heels Wedges are the perfect summer alternative to heels. Not only are they more comfortable, but they pair effortlessly with the linens, midi skirts and flowy, boho-style dresses expected to be all the rage this season. Rochelle told Femail: 'We love comfort, since lockdown heels are on the decline but wedges are as popular as ever. 'For most people they are both comfortable and practical. 'The wedge can really be paired with anything and can be paired with anything from long shorts, to Boho chic to a slip dress.' Mocha brown Brown Colorado Midi Dress - Nobody's Child £69 Shop Draped Plisse Dress in Brown - H&M £139.99 Shop In contract to the light hues and soft pastels, mocha brown is poised to be popular. The palette has been spotted on dresses, shoes and bags - with muted browns and camels also soaring in popularity on the high street. Rochelle explained: 'There has also been a raise in more muted browns and camels, as well as coffee colours with Mocha and taupe being a new go too. 'This really does support the quiet luxury and softness that seems to be popular this summer. 'Very in-line with boho chic, the colour palettes are reflecting that more colour is wanted but in a much more muted and not so loud way.' Long shorts Linen Blend Suit Bermuda Shorts - Mango £35.99 Shop Midwash Denim Bermuda Shorts - TU Clothing £16 Shop Whether its denim, linen or cotton, Bermuda-style shorts are growing in popularity. Rochelle explains that these longer short can be either dressed up for the night, or down for the day. She said: 'Styling can be from a basic vest top, relaxed shirt or blazer. Depending on the style chosen they can be perfect for a more tailored work look or a day at a beach club. 'Some people feel that these are hero pieces for a wardrobe this season as they are so versatile.' Intricate details Blue Vanilla Stone Crochet Knit Shirt - New Look £25 Shop Alvere Blouse in Ecru - Sezene £135 Shop Clothes with intricate details in lace and crochet are also making a comeback in 2025. Rochelle explains that it brings 'an element of personalisation and texture' to an otherwise simple summer outfit. She said: 'The great thing about this, is that it can be used to add texture to outfits or even be the perfect Summer holiday fit for over beachwear. 'I feel that this is really tapping into nostagle and with co-ord sets, structured two pieces and more. Adds a bit of drama to an outfit in whatever way suits.'

Shoppers divided over Primark's new £25 summer top that 'goes with anything'

Personal stylist Lisa Talbot spotted the beautiful top in her local Primark store and shared the bargain with fans online - but not everyone is convinced by the 'tablecloth' item. A newly-released Primark top has garnered praise from numerous shoppers online thanks to its ability to be effortlessly paired with multiple outfits. The high-street fashion brand is renowned for offering affordable, on-trend clothing and accessories. TikTok user and personal stylist Lisa (@lisa. talbot) stumbled upon the top while browsing at her local store. The item, displayed on a rack, caught her attention, prompting her to "stop in [her] tracks" and film the bargain find. ‌ She said: "It is the most beautiful fabric and the detailing is absolutely stunning. It is really pretty and very gentle." ‌ The fashion expert also showcased the matching skirt, crafted from a similar material and boasting an identical flowing design with intricate floral patterns on the hem. Lisa suggested this would make "such a gorgeous outfit for the summer." The complete set is available on Primark's website, with the top priced at £25 and the matching skirt also £25, sold separately, reports the Mirror. According to Primark, the top exudes "summertime chic" with its "perfectly pretty V-neck crop" and "colourful embroidery" that pops against the crisp white fabric. The cotton and linen blend ensures the top feels 'light and breezy' in the summer. However, not everyone shared the same enthusiasm, with some likening it to "looking like a tablecloth". Someone else quipped: "My nan had one of those across her kitchen table!". ‌ However, the £25 top still garnered an outpouring of admiration from fans, with one raving: "Love it so much. Boho embroidery is everywhere this season!" Another said: "It's really so pretty and soft to the touch!" A third chimed in: "I'd absolutely love this with some jeans". ‌ Lisa agreed, saying: "Will look super with shorts too for the summer!" The stylist further proposed: "Will suit a lady who loves boho, imagine at Glastonbury!". A fifth person shared another styling suggestion, posting: "Cute with a white bodysuit under the top!" As of late, Primark has earned a reputation as a hotspot for scoring fantastic summer steals without breaking the bank, with shoppers eager to share their budget-friendly fashion discoveries. ‌ Fashion deal of the week Ahead of the summer season, Urban Outfitters has just knocked £20 off a popular dress - and it's perfect for weddings. The high street retailer's Light Before Dark Bex Printed Midi Slip Dress has rave reviews from shoppers who say it is "flattering in all the right ways". Usually retailing at £62, shoppers can bag it ahead of the warm spell for just £42. The midi-length dress boasts a few "romantic" details that make it perfect for wearing to fancy functions you have planned. This includes the all-over rose print and delicate lace detailing that both add a touch of femininity. With its slip-style silhouette, lightweight material and shoulder straps, it is the ultimate breathable and breezy layer for the summer season. A classy v-neckline, cut-out back detail, side zip fastening and rear button fastenings complete the design. Designed in a baby pink colourway, the Printed Midi Slip Dress will suit pretty much all skin tones and shades. It's also still available in quite a few sizes, with XXS to XL available on the Urban Outfitters website. The dress averages a 4.3 rating on the Urban Outfitters website, and one glowing review read: " This dress is so gorgeous on! Definitely hugs your figure soooo nicely." A second delighted shopper wrote in their review: "Fits really well, perfect for summer wedding." Purchase the Light Before Dark Bex Printed Midi Slip Dress for £42, down from £62, on the Urban Outfitters website here. Recently, customers spotted £10 sandals that bore a striking resemblance to a £30 Zara equivalent. Additionally, a lightweight, "flattering" sports jacket, perfect for workout days, left people doing double takes, mistaking it for a lululemon piece. Some Primark shoppers can take advantage of the click-and-collect service currently being introduced across the UK, with several branches now offering the option on hundreds of items. Traditionally, Primark did not offer online sales to shoppers. However, they launched a click-and-collect service in November 2022, allowing customers to browse and purchase items online for in-store pickup.
