Shoppers divided over Primark's new £25 summer top that 'goes with anything'

Daily Record07-05-2025

Personal stylist Lisa Talbot spotted the beautiful top in her local Primark store and shared the bargain with fans online - but not everyone is convinced by the 'tablecloth' item.
A newly-released Primark top has garnered praise from numerous shoppers online thanks to its ability to be effortlessly paired with multiple outfits. The high-street fashion brand is renowned for offering affordable, on-trend clothing and accessories.
TikTok user and personal stylist Lisa (@lisa. talbot) stumbled upon the top while browsing at her local store. The item, displayed on a rack, caught her attention, prompting her to "stop in [her] tracks" and film the bargain find.

She said: "It is the most beautiful fabric and the detailing is absolutely stunning. It is really pretty and very gentle."

The fashion expert also showcased the matching skirt, crafted from a similar material and boasting an identical flowing design with intricate floral patterns on the hem. Lisa suggested this would make "such a gorgeous outfit for the summer."
The complete set is available on Primark's website, with the top priced at £25 and the matching skirt also £25, sold separately, reports the Mirror.
According to Primark, the top exudes "summertime chic" with its "perfectly pretty V-neck crop" and "colourful embroidery" that pops against the crisp white fabric. The cotton and linen blend ensures the top feels 'light and breezy' in the summer.
However, not everyone shared the same enthusiasm, with some likening it to "looking like a tablecloth".
Someone else quipped: "My nan had one of those across her kitchen table!".

However, the £25 top still garnered an outpouring of admiration from fans, with one raving: "Love it so much. Boho embroidery is everywhere this season!"
Another said: "It's really so pretty and soft to the touch!" A third chimed in: "I'd absolutely love this with some jeans".

Lisa agreed, saying: "Will look super with shorts too for the summer!" The stylist further proposed: "Will suit a lady who loves boho, imagine at Glastonbury!".
A fifth person shared another styling suggestion, posting: "Cute with a white bodysuit under the top!"
As of late, Primark has earned a reputation as a hotspot for scoring fantastic summer steals without breaking the bank, with shoppers eager to share their budget-friendly fashion discoveries.

Fashion deal of the week
Ahead of the summer season, Urban Outfitters has just knocked £20 off a popular dress - and it's perfect for weddings.
The high street retailer's Light Before Dark Bex Printed Midi Slip Dress has rave reviews from shoppers who say it is "flattering in all the right ways". Usually retailing at £62, shoppers can bag it ahead of the warm spell for just £42.
The midi-length dress boasts a few "romantic" details that make it perfect for wearing to fancy functions you have planned. This includes the all-over rose print and delicate lace detailing that both add a touch of femininity.
With its slip-style silhouette, lightweight material and shoulder straps, it is the ultimate breathable and breezy layer for the summer season. A classy v-neckline, cut-out back detail, side zip fastening and rear button fastenings complete the design.
Designed in a baby pink colourway, the Printed Midi Slip Dress will suit pretty much all skin tones and shades. It's also still available in quite a few sizes, with XXS to XL available on the Urban Outfitters website.
The dress averages a 4.3 rating on the Urban Outfitters website, and one glowing review read: " This dress is so gorgeous on! Definitely hugs your figure soooo nicely."
A second delighted shopper wrote in their review: "Fits really well, perfect for summer wedding."
Purchase the Light Before Dark Bex Printed Midi Slip Dress for £42, down from £62, on the Urban Outfitters website here.
Recently, customers spotted £10 sandals that bore a striking resemblance to a £30 Zara equivalent. Additionally, a lightweight, "flattering" sports jacket, perfect for workout days, left people doing double takes, mistaking it for a lululemon piece.
Some Primark shoppers can take advantage of the click-and-collect service currently being introduced across the UK, with several branches now offering the option on hundreds of items.
Traditionally, Primark did not offer online sales to shoppers. However, they launched a click-and-collect service in November 2022, allowing customers to browse and purchase items online for in-store pickup.

Common cruise cost-saving hack backfires as woman gets BANNED for life

A woman has been banned for life from a popular cruise line after sharing a video of her smuggling alcohol on board a ship. Courtney Murley posted a video detailing how to avoid paying for a costly drinks package on a cruise. She captioned the video, which got over 400k views on TikTok, 'Def waited until after I got home to post this! Hahahaha but it worked.' But it seems the video was brought to the attention of Carnival Cruise Lines who have now banned her from travelling with them again. In the viral video Ms Murley demonstrated how she was able to sneak alcohol on board the Carnival Conquest at the end of March. She said: 'Forget a drink package lol….okay we ended up drinking probably what we would of paid for a drink package anyways but still was fun to try and see if the rum runners would work.' Followers took to the comments to warn Ms Murley that there could be consequences. One user wrote: 'Wow. The last thing to do is post this and when you get banned whine about it not being alcohol. You ratted yourself out.' Ms Murley later shared a screenshot of a letter that she received from Carnival Cruise Lines banning her from future travel. It read: 'This letter is to inform you that you will not be able to sail onboard any Carnival Cruise Line vessel in the future due to the smuggling of alcohol onboard the Carnival Conquest on March 31st, 2025, and subsequently posting about it on social media platforms. 'Your attempt to book a future cruise will result in cancellation and a possible loss of deposit monies.' However, in a follow-up video, Ms Murley then claimed that she never actually smuggled alcohol onboard. Instead, she made up the story in what became a successful attempt to go viral. She said: 'What I'm mad about is that they are banning me for something that didn't happen,' she claimed. 'They said for smuggling alcohol. I did not smuggle alcohol. 'Not one ounce of alcohol was smuggled onto the ship.'

Meghan Markle 'terrified' and scared for future as regretful Harry makes major decision over UK return

Meghan Markle is 'scared' to return to the UK and Harry is a 'huge target' Trooping the Colour 2025 marked another significant blow to relations within the Royal Family as Prince Harry steered clear. The Duke of Sussex was not in attendance at last weekend's celebration of the King's official birthday. Queen Camilla joined Charles, as well as Prince William, Kate Middleton and their children George,11, Charlotte,10, and seven year old Louis. Harry was last in the UK in May, where he suffered defeat at the High Court over his ongoing battle to have security measures reinstated for him and his family when they visit from the US. ‌ The Duke of Sussex then gave an interview, where he revealed he hoped to reunite with his father but he couldn't bring his family to the UK until wife Meghan Markle and kids Archie, two, and Lilibet, four, were guaranteed to be 'safe'. ‌ Now a royal expert claims it's not likely the youngsters will ever build up a close relationship with their cousins, or spend much time in the UK, because of Harry and Meghan's worries, writes the Mirror. Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe said: 'Meghan understandably feels scared about coming to the UK with the children. 'The threats are real and genuine. The threat is from lunatics, radical protesters that might want to make a name for themselves by jumping in front of them. Then of course you have the worst type, the terrorist threat. And there's no doubt Harry – and his family, as a result – is a huge target.' Former actress Meghan recently embarked on a change of direction in her career, with her recent eight-part Netflix show With Love, Meghan topping charts across the globe. Earlier today, she took to social media to share her delight as her lifestyle brand As Ever products once again sold out in minutes following an announcement of a restock earlier this week. ‌ She's also been pictured in recent months enjoying a Beyonce gig and shared intimate family moments from a holiday to Disneyland in a reel of posts to Instagram. Earlier this month she and Harry hit the headlines once again as they shared their viral Baby Momma dance clip which was filmed when she went into labour with Lilibet. But despite Meghan feeling 'stronger' than ever and sharing fun parts of her life with fans, she's still hugely worried about the safety of her nearest and dearest. ‌ A source told the Mirror: 'In some ways she's feeling stronger and she wants to share that. 'But she's still terrified of putting her kids at risk by coming back to the UK – any parent would panic if they were in Meghan's shoes. 'So even though Harry is really feeling the absence of his dad, especially after Trooping the Colour and Father's Day, the security stuff will probably always be an issue. ‌ 'He knows that things could've been so different if things had gone another way, but it's been five years since they left the UK and the chances of them coming back, even for a visit, seem slim to none. It's heartbreaking.' In May, Harry gave a controversial interview with the BBC in which he said he 'would love reconciliation' with his family. ‌ Duncan Larcombe reckons that the duke is probably 'full of regrets' now about being so candid. He added: 'Harry is a sensitive soul and always wore his heart on his sleeve, so whether he'd admit it publicly or not, I'm sure he's full of regrets and wishes he'd done things differently. ‌ 'With Trooping the Colour and Father's Day falling on the same weekend, it was bound to make him look back at the happy relationships he once had with his brother and dad, and I'm sure he'd love to be able to rebuild those.' Duncan also states that Princess Diana's death is something that is an ever-present thought for Meghan and Harry, as a 'contributing factor' to her horror crash in Paris in 1997 was the lack of official protection from the Metropolitan Police. The expert explains that official royal security is armed and round the clock, provided by top Met Police officers as well as MI5, who 'surround them in a ring'. He added: 'Without the official support and security, Harry and Meghan are left with two or three bodyguards who are pretty blind to what the potential threats are.' 'My Egyptian toyboy husband put me off sex - but I still will not divorce him'

Iris Jones, 86, spilled the beans on This Morning about her steamy antics with 40-year-old Mohamed Ibrahim. An OAP who boasted on TV about romps with her Egyptian toyboy says she has sworn off sex for good after their acrimonious split. Iris Jones, 86, spilled the beans on This Morning about her steamy antics with 40-year-old Mohamed Ibrahim and was open about their use of K-Y Jelly - saying their nights of passion left her feeling 'saddle-sore'. As reported by the Mirror, she married Mohamed - who is 46 years her junior - in 2020 in Cairo after meeting him on social media the year before. ‌ Her new husband moved to the UK in 2021 - but they split in 2023, and now she says: 'The idea of sex now makes my stomach turn. I'm not interested in men at all, not in companionship with them and certainly not sex with them. ‌ 'My experience with Mohamed has put me off relationships for life. I wish I'd never met him.' Iris, a former legal secretary, wed Mohamed on her third visit to Cairo in a civil ceremony, with only his dad in attendance as a witness. Iris, who has two sons, Stephen, 59, and Darren, 58, says before she got married Stephen begged her not to do anything rash. Even the wedding reception being a meal in McDonald's did not put her off, she says, adding: 'I didn't care. I thought I was madly in love, so I would have married him anywhere.' Her desire turned to disdain, however, and she kicked Mohamed out following 'non-stop arguing'. She says: 'I finally realised I had enough. I was so tired from all the housework and cleaning up after him that the physical side dwindled to nothing. 'Mohamed was only with me for my money. I can see that now, and I look back and think, 'How could I have been so stupid?' The Mohamed I met in Egypt was Prince Charming, but living in my bungalow he was like the Prince of Darkness.' ‌ Bank statements show Iris transferred Mohamed thousands over the course of a year, which she claims were loans he has not repaid – which Mohamed disputes. The last time she had any contact with her husband, she says, was when she emailed him last year asking for his address so she could speak to the Home Office about his stay in the UK. She says: 'All I got back was him telling me his solicitor's details. I did see him in my local Tesco a few months after I chucked him out. ‌ 'When he saw me he tried to run away and hide. I have asked for the money back but I've now made peace with the fact I will never see it again. I don't want to see him again either, but I don't hate him. 'He hasn't ruined my life. I have two lovely sons, two lovely daughters-in-law – a great family life. 'But I feel so much regret for the pain I caused them. They begged me not to marry him. But I didn't listen.' Despite the acrimony, divorce is not on the cards, Iris – who has been divorced before – reveals. ‌ She insists: 'I'm not paying out for a divorce. I'm not spending any more money on him. It would cost me more to divorce him than to stay married and I don't want to lose any more money.' Iris says that, since her split, women who tell her they have been conned by romantic partners have contacted her asking for advice. ‌ She says: 'I feel like an agony aunt to them. It's very sad that what's happened to me is so common. Some age gap relationships can work. But I would urge women to be careful of relationships with much younger men. They can be genuine but mine wasn't.' These days Iris, who lives in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, has replaced her passion for sex with a new hobby. She reveals: 'I like drawing caricatures. I find it really therapeutic. I do it every day and post my pictures on social media. 'I do draw Mohamed all the time – one drawing shows him as a wolf in sheep's clothing.' ‌ When the couple appeared on This Morning, Mohamed told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: 'I love Iris to the point of madness.' He is still in the UK, and says: 'I have been employed legally in England as a welder in construction and as a security guard. 'I have worked hard I have paid tax and have never claimed any benefits since being here in this country. I have been accused of taking [thousands], where is the evidence? I never asked [Iris] for money. I was no scammer. I paid her housekeeping every month.'
