Taylor Swift's Lack of AMAs Announcement Still Results in ‘Reputation' Bump

Some have come out of nowhere, others have taken months to catch on, and all of them could become ubiquitous in the blink of a TikTok clip. Swifties had flooded the internet in recent weeks with predictions of a Taylor Swift Memorial Day Miracle – an appearance at the awards, most likely accompanied by an announcement of a new release, perhaps the long-awaited Reputation (Taylor's Version) re-recording. Unfortunately for the Swifties, the AMAs came and went without any appearances, announcements or drops from their fav. But hope clearly sprang eternal in the days leading up to the awards, at least on streaming: The 15 tracks on Reputation racked up a combined 11.3 million official on-demand U.S. streams across the first four days of this tracking week (May 23-26), ahead of the awards – a 14% gain from the equivalent period the prior, according to Luminate. And that bump was of course highest on Memorial Day, as the album racked up 2.4 million total streams on that day alone, a 29% gain from the prior Monday. 'Soul Survivor' was the breakout crossover hit 20 years ago for the rapper then known as Young Jeezy, as the Akon-assisted banger lifted to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped establish his Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101 as one of the year's biggest rap albums. Two decades later, the street anthem is once again delighting music fans, though through a relatively unlikely conduit: a TikTok meme about dating gaffes. Tiktoker Hadley (@localyerbafein) stroke viral paydirt last week (May 21) when she shared a video that captured the story of a guy – presumably one she was seeing, or at least considering seeing – responding to her interest in law with a question about her watching the TV show Suits. The video ends with footage of Hadley serving as a courtroom attorney, with the caption 'holy fckin airball' – all, of course, set to 'Soul Survivor.' The clip quickly spread through the app, racking up 10 million views and 1.8 million likes, and inspiring a number of other users to share their own he-shoots, he-doesn't-score stories, with Akon and Jeezy again serving as the soundtrack. Consequently, the track exploded on streaming towards the end of last week. For the tracking week ending May 22, 'Soul Survivor' amassed over 3 million official on-demand U.S. streams, according to Luminate – fully doubling its stream count from the prior week – and it should be headed for an even bigger tally this week, as TikTok keeps putting up one 'holy fckin airball' after another. In 2017, two greats of popular music – pop icon Cher and rap legend Future – teamed up for an unlikely collab cover of Sly & The Family's soul-pop classic 'Everyday People.' Their rendition was featured in a Gap commercial that showcased the star pair meeting up on a staircase on an otherwise-blank set to discuss how Cher can't get the 1969 Hot 100-topper out of her head, leading to her crooning the song over a trappy beat. Meanwhile, Future attempts to fill in with harmonies and ad libs – in a mixture that, unsurprisingly, feels slightly less than organic. The awkward commercial has recently begun to recirculate around the internet, resulting in pairs of TikTokers recreating the visual in endearing clips gently poking at the stilted chemistry of the original. The Cher & Future 'Everyday People' is not currently available in full on DSPs, but of course the Family Stone original is there for the streaming – and folks have been evidently charmed enough by the improbable cover to revisit (or check out) the original. According to Luminate, over the first four days of this tracking week (May 23-26), 'Everyday People' is up to 309,000 official on-demand U.S. streams from 256,000 over the same period in the prior week, a gain of 21%. In this week's example of never knowing where a breakout hit might come from in 2025, we have Scottish dance producer Sam Gellaitry. His song 'Assumptions,' from the 2021 EP IV, has begun to percolate on streaming over the past month, thanks to the Russian dancer Руслан Айдаев, now known to the internet as Blue Shirt Guy – who has been a meme of some degree for years already for his full-bodied dance moves, shot from behind. Recent viral videos have paired the clip with Gellaitry's throbbing electro-pop instrumental, resulting in it going nuts on TikTok all over again – with many of the app's finest donning their best blue shirts and filming themselves shaking it from behind. Consequently, the four-year-old 'Assumpstions' has risen to the top of Gellaitry's Spotify page, and is now racking up over 2.2 million official on-demand U.S. streams a week, up 142% from three weeks earlier, according to Luminate. Audra McDonald has responded to Patti LuPone's recent disses. Shortly after LuPone said that her fellow Broadway legend was 'not a friend,' citing a past 'rift' between them, McDonald told Gayle King for CBS Sunday Morning, 'If there's a rift between us, I don't know what it is.' McDonald's response comes days after LuPone made her feelings quite clear in a New Yorker profile published Monday (May 26). The subject first came up as LuPone was recalling a kerfuffle with Broadway's Hell's Kitchen, which was located next door to her own Broadway play The Roommate. LuPone had asked Shubert Organization head Robert Wankel to step in after sound from the Alicia Keys-created musical kept bleeding over from their neighbors, after which Hell's Kitchen star Kecia Lewis posted a video on Instagram calling LuPone's actions 'bullying,' 'racially microaggressive' and 'rooted in privilege.' When The New Yorker's Michael Schulman pointed out that McDonald had shown support for Lewis' video in the comments, LuPone replied, 'Exactly.' 'And I thought, You should know better,' LuPone continued at the time. 'That's typical of Audra. She's not a friend.' That's when the publication noted that the two stage icons had previously 'had some long-ago rift,' about which LuPone didn't want to disclose details. When pressed for her review of McDonald's current portrayal of Rose in Gypsy on Broadway — a role LuPone played and won a Tony for in a 2008-09 revival — LuPone simply stared at the writer pointedly for 15 seconds. The Jonas Brothers Unveil ‘Greetings From Your Hometown' Cover Art Shot in Native New Jersey
The Jonas Brothers went back to their roots for every part of their forthcoming new album Greetings From Your Hometown, including its cover art. As unveiled on the band's Instagram Thursday (May 29), the LP's front features a cozy photo of Kevin, Nick and Joe clinking wine glasses while dining at a restaurant. On the walls, nostalgic photographs hang in frames. The Jonas Brothers first announced Greetings From Your Hometown at JONASCON in March. The LP will drop Aug. 8, two days after which the band will embark on a tour fittingly starting with one night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. 'I remember buying nosebleed seats when we had just enough in our allowance to go and watch a game,' Joe recently told Billboard of playing at the stadium in his home state. 'So to be Jersey guys who grew up 10, 15 minutes away from the stadium, MetLife … It's a dream come true — to celebrate with our fans as well. And then we're starting there, it's now tradition. We have to start with New York.' Greetings From Your Hometown comes more than two years after the brothers last released an LP, with The Album reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Rod Stewart Confirms Faces Reunion With Ronnie Wood For Glastonbury 2025 Slot
As anticipation builds for surprise appearances at Glastonbury 2025, Sir Rod Stewart has confirmed that Ronnie Wood will join him for a Faces reunion during his Legends set. In a new interview on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Stewart explained that he was still in regular contact with the Rolling Stones guitarist. The pair were previously bandmates in the late '60s/early '70s blues rock band, alongside drummer Kenney Jones. 'Woody, I do [speak to] a lot,' the 79-year-old said. But I can see it coming out next year,' he continued. 'Everyone's doing different things. We do little snippets [of recording] here and there. Then all of a sudden, The Stones are out [on tour] again, Rod's out again…' First formed in 1969 through a merger between members of Small Faces and the Jeff Beck Group, Faces existed for six years before guitarist Wood left to join the Rolling Stones, and Stewart continued his burgeoning solo career. The group have released four albums, with 1971's A Nod Is As Good As a Wink… to a Blind Horse hitting No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Glastonbury will take place at Worthy Farm, Somerset next month (June 25-29) with headliners The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo. Stewart last performed at the festival in 2002, topping the bill alongside Coldplay and Stereophonics that year. The 'Maggie May' singer will take to the Pyramid Stage on Sunday afternoon for the Legends slot – one of the most coveted in the festival's history. Previous bookings have included Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Lionel Richie, Kylie Minogue and Diana Ross, with Shania Twain performing in the Legends slot in 2024. Shortly after he was announced for this year's event, Stewart said he was 'proud, ready and more than able to pleasure and titillate my friends at Glastonbury.' He was the first name to be confirmed for Glastonbury 2025, which sold out in under an hour last autumn following the introduction of a new online queuing system. 2025's edition will mark the final event to take place at Worthy Farm before the traditional fallow year in 2026, which sees the landowner Michael Eavis and his family allow the grounds to recover every four years. The festival will return again in 2027. Here's Why Fans Think Taylor Swift Just Teased Her Next Album After Buying Her Masters
On Friday (May 30), Taylor Swift both announced that she has finally acquired the masters to her first six albums and gave an update on the long-awaited Reputation re-record — but fans suspect that, to top it all off, she also subtly teased her 12th album. In a letter posted to her website, the pop star revealed that she finally has control over her entire body of work after purchasing back her masters from Shamrock Capital (for somewhere around $360 million, sources tell Billboard). The sale comes six years after Scooter Braun acquired her catalog from Scott Borchetta in 2019, after which the music manager sold his ownership of Swift's music to Shamrock in late 2020. But what caught fans' eye was what the 14-time Grammy winner wrote next. 'All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through.' The statement may seem innocuous — and for all Swifties know, it is — but it's hard not to focus in on the fact that she included no less than 12 'i's when writing out the word 'thiiiiiiiiiiiis.' Swift has released 11 albums over the course of her career, the last of which, The Tortured Poets Department, arrived in April 2023 and spent 17 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. That would make her next LP her 12th, a fact that has fans thinking she just teased the upcoming project with her note. 'IT'S A TS12 SUMMER!!!' another fan posted, while a third Swiftie shared a screenshot of the letter and wrote, 'I feel like ts12 just got so much closer.' The 12-count 'i' situation is just the latest suspected clue fans have picked up on ahead of the 'Fortnight' singer's predicted 12th album. Much fanfare was also made when Swift attended the 2025 Grammys wearing earrings with exactly 12 red jewels apiece, and in March, she used a sequence of 12 'D's when praising Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco's I Said I Love You First album on Instagram. 'I LOVE THIS ALBUM SO MUCH OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDD,' Swift wrote on her Story at the time. Sharing screenshots of the earrings, the Gomez-Blanco post and the letter about her masters, one Swiftie wrote Friday, 'SUDDENLY LIFE IS WORTH LIVING TS12 TRUTHERS RISE.' But while fans may be excited about the prospect of Swift's 12th album coming soon, it's just one of many things they are celebrating. Social media has seen an outpouring of Swifties rejoicing over the musician finally owning her life's work, something she wrote in her letter is her 'greatest dream come true.' The purchase comes after six years of publicly feuding with Borchetta and Braun over the way the original sale was handled, as well as the re-releases of four of her first six albums: Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989. In her letter, Swift emphasized how thankful she was to fans for sticking with her every step of the way. 'You'll never know how much it means to me that you cared,' she wrote.
