Saint-Étienne manager ‘expects' Lucas Stassin to stay at club

AS Saint-Étienne look set to dig their heels in. Despite relegation to Ligue 2, the club want to keep hold of their star asset, Lucas Stassin (20). As revealed by L'Équipe on Thursday, Les Verts have slapped a €20m price tag on the Belgian, who in his first season in French football excelled, finishing the campaign with 12 goals and five assists in Ligue 1. However, his goals could not prevent ASSE from dropping back down to Ligue 2. They finished the season second from bottom, ahead of Montpellier HSC. Advertisement However, despite the setback, Saint-Étienne are not in a precarious financial situation, unlike other relegated sides, Montpellier and Stade de Reims. Due to the takeover from Kilmer Sports Ventures last summer, they are not obliged to sell off key assets, such as Stassin and Zuriko Davitashvili, also valued at around €20m. They could, therefore, look to retain Stassin, a target for Premier League sides. 'I'm expecting Lucas to be there next season,' said Eirik Horneland in a press conference transcribed by Foot Mercato's Sébastien Denis. 'I think he'll say because he is a good player. He has a contract (until 2028). His situation doesn't depend on him; it depends on us,' he added. Time will tell whether ASSE's stance breeds conflict. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Swansea City's pre-season schedule complete as final friendly against Euro side confirmed The Swans have confirmed their final pre-season friendly of the summer (Image: Chris Fairweather/Huw Evans Agency ) Swansea City have confirmed they will take on French side Lorient in the final fixture of their pre-season schedule this summer. The Ligue 2 champions will visit the Stadium on August 2 for a 3pm kick-off, in what will be their final outing before the upcoming Championship season. ‌ The club had initially hoped to welcome Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven to south Wales, but were forced into a rethink following the Dutch side's league triumph. ‌ PSV pipped rivals Ajax to the Eredivisie title during a thrilling end to the season, coming out on top by just one point. That put the buffers on the proposed fixture at the Stadium, with PSV instead set to be involved in the Johan Cruyff Shield, which is the Dutch equivalent of the Community Shield, where they will meet Go Ahead Eagles. However, the club has now confirmed European opponents, with Lorient preparing for life back in Ligue 1 after winning promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Article continues below The move completes Swansea's pre-season schedule, which starts out in Spain against League One side Stevenage on July 19. Kick-off for that one is at 11am. The club then travel to Cheltenham Town four days later for a 7pm kick-off, before heading to Exeter City the following Saturday at 1pm. The Championship season gets under way on the weekend of August 8, with fixtures for the upcoming campaign released at 12pm on June 26. Kisnorbo out as Japanese club parts with another coach

Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos have parted ways with their Australian coach Patrick Kisnorbo amid a dismal J1 League season. Kisnorbo becomes the second coach to leave the club this season, having been promoted to the role, initially on an interim basis, after Steve Holland was sacked in April. The club issued a statement on Thursday saying Kisnorbo was leaving by mutual agreement due to personal reasons, with Hideo Oshima to take charge of the team on an interim basis. The Australian had struggled to turn the team's fortunes around, winning two and losing eight of his first 10 matches in charge and they sit last on the 20-team J1 League ladder. Kisnorbo was quoted in the club statement saying: "Due to personal reasons, the club and I have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of all parties - my family, the club, the fans, the staff, and the players - that I part ways with Yokohama "We have worked together to ensure this transition is handled smoothly and amicably." Former Socceroo defender Kisnorbo joined the club as an assistant in December, having walked out on a three-year deal as Melbourne Victory coach after just seven games. The ex-Melbourne City premiership-winning coach had returned to Australia following a difficult year at the helm of French club Troyes, who were relegated from Ligue 1 following his November 2022 arrival. That tenure ended with his departure in late 2023 after Ligue 2 Troyes had won just two of 15 matches.

Dunkerque near to securing successor to Luís Castro

USL Dunkerque have found their successor to Luís Castro, after the Portuguese head coach was headhunted by FC Nantes. According to a report from L'Équipe, Dunkerque are moving quickly to try and secure the services of Gonçalo Feio. Feio, who is a free agent after he failed to agree on a contract extension with Legia Warsaw, had an impressive season in Poland. He helped lead the club to a quarter-final berth in the UEFA Europa Conference League, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Chelsea (but managed to win at Stamford Bridge). Advertisement L'Équipe writes that Feio is expected to arrive in the North of France soon, where he will sign a contract with the Ligue 2 side. Despite having one of the smaller budgets in the league, Dunkerque narrowly missed out on promotion to the top flight this season. The Ligue 2 side finished the campaign in 4th, and were eventually beaten in the playoffs by FC Metz. Les Maritimes will be hoping that they can plot a way into Ligue 1 for the first time in their history. GFFN | Nick Hartland
