Leroy 'detours' from his famous father's game
KUALA LUMPUR: His father was a top shuttler and many people thought Leroy Yong would follow in the path of Yong Hock Kin. But it isn't exactly the case. While the athletic Leroy is a chip off the old block, it's different strokes as he pursues a tennis career. The promising Hock Kin is determined to make it in professional tennis. In fact, Hock Kin was the one who encouraged Leroy to take up tennis and supported his development in the sport. Hock Kin didn't impose on his son to play badminton though he was a former world No. 2 who had won multiple Commonwealth and Asian Games medals. One of the most talented left-handed shuttlers on the World Tour, he was also the first Malaysian to win the coveted men's singles title at the Indonesia Open (1998). "I started playing tennis when I was about six or seven," said the 21-year-old Leroy recently. "I actually started playing badminton when I was about three. My dad always brought me to the badminton courts when he was coaching. "I got a bit sick of badminton because I was playing everyday and almost everyone plays badminton in Malaysia. "So one day, my dad asked me if I wanted to try and play tennis. It was new to me and interesting, so I started to play. "He saw I had talent in tennis so he said, 'why don't we give tennis a shot' and started coaching me in tennis." Hock Kin coached Leroy for a decade before he went on to train under other coaches, including former national champion Ashaari Zainal. Leroy spent much of his teen years in China, after Hock Kin moved his family there to pursue a coaching career in badminton. Being in China allowed Leroy to compete in tournaments there and abroad which helped him further his progress as a tennis player. Leroy won two ITF junior doubles titles in 2019 in Hong Kong and Singapore, and also went deep into a number of singles tournaments. "We moved back to Malaysia when Covid-19 struck, but I still go back and forth to China to compete there when possible," said Leroy. "There are more tournaments available in China which makes travelling between events easier. When I am in Malaysia, I usually train at home in Melaka or in Kuala Lumpur. "I was born in KL but my dad chose to move us to Melaka, which is my mum's hometown, as he does not like the hectic life in KL." Hock Kin currently operates a badminton academy in Melaka. Leroy's journey in tennis has not been all smooth sailing as he suffered injuries which sidelined him for six months en route to winning the men's doubles gold, partnering Darrshan Kumar, for Federal Territories at last year's Sarawak Malaysia Games (Sukma). "I was chasing a ball and slid. I slammed into the net post and injured my rib and my back," said Leroy. "I was on painkillers after Sukma but after seeing a doctor and doing some tests, I was advised to rest, so I stopped playing tennis for six months. "But I view it as a good experience for me. I learnt how to recover and strengthen my body. I feel so much better now, I can handle high-intensity training and am playing well again." Leroy is looking forward to the ITF Futures Tour this year and he hopes to secure sponsorship for his campaign. "Now that I have recovered from injuries, I am hoping to play in more Futures tournaments, both here in Malaysia and abroad," he said. "I am still young and believe I can do it. I have been inspired by players such as Mitsuki Leong who have been making good progress on tour. "I have also spoken to Mitsuki's father (and coach) Jeff Leong who encouraged me and gave me good advice on how to improve. "At the moment, I am hoping to secure sponsors who can support me so I can focus more on tennis without having to worry too much about the costs involved. "There are a lot of expenses involved to play on tour. This includes flights, hotels, meals, physiotherapy, stringing and so on. Having sponsors onboard would reduce the pressure on me." Leroy added that he has also been doing coaching to help cover some of his training and competition expenses. Mitsuki is the current national No. 1, and in 2023 he became the first Malaysian to win an ITF singles title in over two decades. Leroy has been shortlisted for the Malaysia team for the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group IV competition at National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur on July 14-19.

'Someone will be killed if something isn't done about speeding drivers outside my home'
'Someone will be killed if something isn't done about speeding drivers outside my home' A local resident says he has submitted more than 39 videos of evidence to the police, but no action has been taken A man living next to a busy residential road in Llanelli has described it like as an 'absolute racetrack' as drivers continue to drive at dangerously high speeds. The resident said that despite complaining to the police as far back as August 2024, and even after submitting numerous videos of evidence — nothing has improved. "It's absolute madness," says Leroy Hutchinson, 66, who lives at the road with his partner and daughter. "Probably well before the 20 mile an hour speed limit came in. It's just been the same." Pembrey Road serves as a route for people to go through from Llanelli, onwards to, Sandy, Kidwelly, Bury Port, finally leading up to Pembrey. Pembrey road in Llanelli (Image: Google Maps ) Leroy continues: 'It's just never ending. It's just a race track… absolute race track.' Stay informed on Carms news by signing up to our newsletter here The vehicles passing through can be heard as early as 9pm in the night, going "faster than fast." Article continues below "It is mainly in the evenings and you sit in the house and then you just hear them normally around 9-9.30pm, right the way through to midnight, one o' clock in the morning, two o' clock in the morning," Leroy said. "The big engines come out, the noisy engines and then it just speed. "They're not even driving fast, it's faster than fast. It's racetrack speed, 60 miles an hour, 70 miles an hour." Leroy fitted CCTV cameras to the front of his house, for personal reasons, but when he started hearing the constant noise of cars outside his house, he started to take notes. "About August last year, I started looking at the cameras," he said. "I just had this real interest in listening to what was coming past and then having a look at the cameras and comparing what I was hearing." The posts soon garnered attention from his neighbours, as Leroy said: "At first I just started sharing it on Facebook, because we've got our own neighbourhood watch. So I started sharing it on Facebook and people were going, 'wow, absolutely crazy.'" Soon, Leroy began tagging Dyfed Powys police in the posts, he continued: "At first I was getting no response at all and I was making people in the Facebook group clear that I was gaining no response from Dyfed Powys Police." Leroy explained that when the force did reach out to him, they would ask him to click a link to directly message them. He was then directed to make a complaint to Go Safe, a dedicated department to investigate road traffic offences where evidence has been captured on camera. Leroy says he provided 39 pieces of video evidence of speeding from outside his house in August 2024. A Go Safe response to his complaint, as seen by Wales Online stated that a change in speed limit, that is the implementation of the default 20mph speed limit, would 'influence driver behaviour' and they were allowing time for 'driver behaviour to adjust.' Go Safe added that it would be conducting an 'assessment' of the location, and if the area was not suitable for enforcement, they would ensure that the area is noted for roadside engagement teams. It has been been nine months since August 2024, and according to Leroy, the situation is still the same. 'Somebody being killed on this road, it is a matter of time,' said Leroy. 'If you go back to the August videos of mine on my Facebook page, you will see I got to a point where I stopped uploading. That's it. I said enough is enough here.' Leroy explained: 'Somebody came down Pembrey Road at speed on my side of the road — the wrong side of the road. It's what you call buzzing the cameras. 'I said, that's it, somebody's sharing these videos because somebody's come maybe 300 metres, 400 metres on the wrong side of the road,' he added. 'I don't even know what time it was at night… I said to my missus, that it's enough because somebody is going to get killed here and I don't want to be encouraging it with more videos.' Due to the what he believed was a lack of response by the police, Leroy, said he has 'kind of just given up.' When Leroy posted the videos on his Facebook account again, on May 28, 2025, he was met with a similar response. Article continues below 'Nobody's even picking the telephone up to call me. It's just generated. I don't know whether it's AI, whether it was just an automatic generated Facebook page they use because it says go to Go Safe, send the report, upload the videos. So I said... I did all this last August, certainly not going to waste my time doing it again if it proves fruitless.' Dyfed Powys Police and Go Safe have been approached for a comment.

Tottenham 'offered chance' to sign Arsenal target as new reality becomes clear
Tottenham are looking to take advantage of their Champions League qualification in this summer's transfer window, potentially beating fierce rivals Arsenal to a key target Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Leroy Sane, with the winger set to leave Bayern Munich. Sane joined Bayern in 2020 from Manchester City, helping them to win four Bundesliga titles. But while he has been a regular under Vincent Kompany this term, the German looks set to call time on his career at the Allianz Arena. Sane's contract will expire this summer, with Bayern having been unable to agree a new deal. The 29-year-old scored 13 goals in 45 games across all competitions this season as Bayern reclaimed the Bundesliga title. He previously scored 39 goals in 135 games for City, helping them to win two Premier League titles, three Carabao Cups and the FA Cup. During his time in Germany, Sane has emerged as a target for Arsenal. But it now looks as if fierce rivals Spurs have been able to muscle into their pursuit and have moved ahead of the Gunners. Spurs won the Europa League last week, beating Manchester United in the final. With the victory, they ended a 17-year silverware drought and booked their place in next season's Champions League. That new reality looks set to hand them a boost in the summer transfer window. According to Sky Sports, Spurs have been 'offered the opportunity' to sign Sane ahead of the new season. The qualification for the Champions League is highlighted as making the London side a 'more attractive proposition'. Bayern have been left frustrated that Sane is set to move on for free. The 29-year-old appeared to be on the course to sign a new deal, before suddenly switching agents from Christian Schmid of 11Wins to Pini Zahavi. Bayern's board member for sport Max Eberl admitted to being taken by surprise by the move. "We have good relationships with his agencies. It came as a bit of a surprise. We thought we were very far along. We'll see how things develop. Our wish would be to extend Leroy's contract, but we've also set ourselves a framework," Eberl said at the start of May. "We'll see what happens Until the signature is finalized, nothing can be said. We have a clear idea and thought we were on the right track. Of course, we're talking to the new agency. "There's no bad blood; the players are free to make their own decisions. We're very clear. Leroy's performances in recent weeks have been very good; he's shown that he's committed to Bayern Munich. We hope he does it, and if not, we'll move on there as well. "At the moment, the season is still being viewed as a bit too normal. We've been top of the table since the third matchday, we've been very stable, and we've always responded very well to setbacks. It's a special, important championship. We're hungry for more!" Orange Cat Carries Around Tiny Stuffed Animal in His Likeness and It's Too Sweet
Just like kids, sometimes our pets have security blankies or toys they carry around everywhere. Leroy Brown is an orange cat who has a favorite stuffie - it's an adorable little kitty that looks just like him! The video starts with Leroy walking down the stairs with his emotional support kitty in his mouth. His mom, Wendi, says he always has his baby, and we absolutely love this cute video! Wendi has posted other videos of Leroy with his baby, too. He really does always have his emotional support with him, and it's so sweet to see how gentle he is with it. @Madison <3 agreed, "Awww I didn't realize it was a stuffed kitten until the end MY FREAKING HEART!!! He needs a kitten ASAP!!!"Orange cats have big, quirky personalities and are really like the class clowns of the cat world. While we all refer to them as orange cats, they are not a distinct breed. They're actually just orange tabby cats, but tabbies aren't a breed of their own either! When people refer to tabby cats, they're really talking about their common coat pattern - their striped coats. Do all orange cats look the same? There are some characteristics to look for. shares, "Though each orange tabby is different, tabbies in general have specific characteristics that are easily identified. These include banding on the legs and tail, an M-shaped marking on the forehead, white or dark lining around the eyes, pigment on the paws and lips, thin 'pencil' lines on the face, and a pale color on the chin and belly. Did you know that most orange cats are male - about 80% of them are. explains the 'Ginger Gene', 'The captivating orange fur of these cats is due to a gene called 'O' (for orange), which is located on the X chromosome. This gene determines the production of orange pigment, called pheomelanin, in the fur. Interestingly, male cats only need one copy of the 'O' gene to display an orange coat, while females must have two copies. This unique genetic arrangement results in the majority of orange cats being male.' We hope Leroy's mom keeps sharing cute videos of him. He always makes us smile with his antics!
