Top Russian MP blasts EU aspirant for betraying national heritage
The Moldovan authorities have sacrificed the country's centuries-old heritage in exchange for values imposed by the West, senior Russian MP Leonid Slutsky has said. The comment came shortly after an anti-LGBTQ rally in the ex-Soviet country's capital descended into clashes between police and Orthodox Christian protesters on Sunday. The chaos erupted after an unsanctioned LGBTQ march in Chisinau was met by counter-protesters carrying religious icons and crosses. Police, deployed in large numbers, initially allowed the march to proceed but later intervened when tensions between the two groups escalated. 'The Russophobic and pro-Western regime of [Moldovan President Maia] Sandu is selling, for thirty pieces of silver, centuries-old treasures, the bonds between brotherly peoples, and moral and religious foundations,' Slutsky, the chairman of the Duma Foreign Affairs Committee, told RT on Monday, emphasizing that not all Moldovans support the government's policies. 'This is evident in the numerous marches against the imposition of – let's speak plainly – perversion and moral decay,' Slutsky added. The MP claimed that the government headed by pro-EU Sandu is attempting to silence dissent by harsh, 'if not outright satanic, methods' in order to appease the 'Euro-globalists.' 'The assault on a priest for the amusement of Brussels perverts is beyond the pale,' Slutsky said. 'Sandu is leading the country into a dead end – toward a social explosion.' One of several videos circulating online appeared to show law enforcement officers knocking an Orthodox priest to the ground, as well as forcibly detaining a man holding a child. Moldova has accelerated its push toward EU and NATO membership since 2020, when Sandu, a vocal critic of Russia, came to power. Her pro-Western policies have faced growing domestic criticism, particularly over the country's economic trajectory and the handling of political dissent. Sandu has defended her actions as part of a broader effort to counter alleged pro-Russian influence, launching crackdowns on opposition parties and media outlets she describes as criminal entities.

Former Arsenal cult hero looks unrecognisable as he tucks into large beer stein ahead of Champions League final
A former Arsenal cult hero looked totally unrecognisable as he enjoyed a beer ahead of the Champions League final in Munich last week. The ex-Premier League star was seen tucking into a stein of beer alongside former Hull City and Russia manager Leonid Slutsky before attending PSG 's thrilling 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan on Saturday - as Luis Enrique's side lifted their first ever Champions League trophy. The 44-year-old, who scored 31 goals in 144 appearances for the Gunners, appeared scarcely recognisable as he sported a blue cap, completing his new look with black glasses and a white t-shirt. Nicknamed the 'baby faced assassin' by some, the Russian also appeared to be tucking into a sausage and chips. The former winger moved to the Emirates for £15million in 2009 from Zenit St Petersburg and enjoyed a succesful four-year stint under Arsene Wenger. He is best known for a remarkable individual cameo where he scored four times at Anfield in a scintillating eight-goal draw against Liverpool in 2009. It is indeed Andrey Arshavin. The retired forward, who played 75 times for Russia, is also lauded by Gunners fans for sweeping in the winner against Barcelona to stun the Spaniards 2-1 in their Champions League round of 16 clash in 2011. Despite his heroic status, fans were still unable to recognise his new look. 'He looks so innocent and... Normal here... Can't believe he's the same guy who scored four against Liverpool,' one fan wrote on social media. 'He looks like a science teacher,' another added. One fan said: 'Imagine seeing him at a beerhall and he's like, 'Yeah I played in the Premier League for Arsenal.' Another wrote: 'That guy put four past Liverpool, let that sink in.' It's not the first time that Arshavin has surprised Arsenal fans with his new appearance. He shocked fans by wearing a woolly hat and large black glasses while taking the London overground to watch Tottenham beat Fulham 2-0 in 2023. After leaving Arsenal in 2013, Arshavin returned to Zenit, before moving to Russian side Kuban Krasnodar. He finished his career at Kazakh club Kairat in 2018 and now holds a backroom position at Zenit.

‘Is it really him' – Arsenal cult hero looks unrecognisable as he holds stein in Munich at Champions League final
ARSENAL cult hero Andrey Arshavin looked unrecognisable holding a stein at the Champions League final in Munich. The Russian, 44, was in town to watch Paris Saint-Germain's historic 5-0 win over Inter Milan on Saturday. 5 5 Arshavin appeared in good spirits as he toasted the occasion with a beer while also enjoying food with friends - one of whom was former Russia and Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky. But anyone walking past would have needed to do a double take. That's because Arshavin looked hardly recognisable as he kept a low profile in glasses and blue baseball cap. And Arsenal supporters were left stunned as they questioned whether it really was the same man who lit up north London for over four years. One fan said: 'Oh f*** I can't actually tell if it's him or not.' Another declared: 'He looks like a science teacher.' One noted: 'That guy put four past Liverpool, let that sink in.' Another added: 'Imagine seeing him at a beerhall and he's like, 'Yeah I played in the Premier League for Arsenal'.' It's not the first time Arshavin threw fans off with his look. The icon again looked unrecognisable while being spotted in London two years ago, this time pairing some large glasses with a wooly hat. David Raya reveals Arsenal career changed overnight following two-hour meeting 5 5 The 75-time Russia international joined Arsenal in 2009 from Zenit for £15million. He went on to score 31 goals in 144 outings before returning to Zenit permanently in 2013. Arshavin ended his football career in 2018 with Kazakhstani side Kairat. And he has since held a backroom role with Zenit, while also completing his Uefa A Licence earlier this year.

Russia can't afford to be weak
Russia is a key pillar of Eurasian security and thus cannot afford to be weak, the head of the country's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergey Naryshkin, has stated. Addressing the attendees of an international security conference in Moscow on Wednesday, Naryshkin said that 'Russia has no right to be weak… [and] to abandon its own values and pursue the chimera of totalitarian liberalism and globalism.' According to Naryshkin, 'history teaches us that the security on the Eurasian continent and ultimately the whole world depends on Russia's firm standing.' Representatives from more than 150 nations were expected to attend the security conference, called the 13th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, in the Russian capital. Invitations were sent out to the nations of the Global South and East, to the Commonwealth of Independent States, and to members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as to more than 20 international organizations. Topping the event's agenda is the 'formation of a new architecture of equal and indivisible security that is fairer and corresponds to today's realities.' Speaking at a forum titled 'New World Order: Formation of a Multipolar World and the Role of Russia' last month, State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky stated that Russia is actively promoting a new model of international relations and 'plays a central role in building a new, fair world order.' This, according to the lawmaker, is based on multipolarity and mutual respect, and will lay the groundwork for the creation of a safe and stable global security architecture. During the same event, Ivan Timofeev, who heads up the Russian International Affairs Council, argued that the 'old European system of collective security has ceased to function.' He insisted that in its place, a new, broader Eurasian security model will be established in the near future.
