US attack on Iran "flagrant" breach of international law: Russia

Moscow: Russia on Sunday said that US attacks on Iran's nuclear sites are a "flagrant" breach of international law. "The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, whatever the arguments it may be presented with, flagrantly violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday as reported by Al Jazeera. "We call for an end to aggression and for increased efforts to create conditions for returning the situation to a political and diplomatic track," Al Jazeera report citing the Russian foreign ministry said. Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi plans to travel to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Politico reported. Araghchi emphasized the "strategic partnership" between Iran and Russia and told reporters in Istanbul. "We always consult with each other and coordinate our positions," Politoco said citing media reports. Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno said his country is "very concerned" over the escalating tensions in light of US attacks on Iran. "It is not a military solution that will bring peace and stability to the Middle East, but rather diplomacy, and therefore we hope that everyone will return to the negotiating table," Albares said, speaking to the broadcaster RTVE. Meanwhile, as per CNN, Putin has no plans to speak to his US counterpart, Donald Trump, the Kremlin said on Sunday following US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, but added that a call could be arranged quickly, state news agency TASS reported. Russia and Iran signed a "comprehensive partnership agreement" in January, cementing their close strategic alliance, though the agreement stopped short of requiring the two countries to come to the other's defence if one is attacked. Chinese state media Global Times, citing the country's foreign ministry spokesperson, said that China strongly condemns the US attacks on Iran and bombing of nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the IAEA. "The actions of the US seriously violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, and have exacerbated tensions in the Middle East. China calls on the parties to the conflict, Israel in particular, to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible, ensure the safety of civilians, and start dialogue and negotiation. China stands ready to work with the international community to pool efforts together and uphold justice, and work for restoring peace and stability in the Middle East," the Chinese official said as per the report in Global Times. In a call Thursday, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping had strongly condemned Israel's attacks on Iran, according to readouts from the Kremlin and China's foreign ministry. Although the statements did not mention the United States, Xi -- in a thinly veiled message to Trump -- emphasized that "major powers" that have a special influence on the parties to the conflict should work to "cool the situation, not the opposite," as per CNN. US on Sunday launched strikes on three underground nuclear facilities in Iran. Speaking from the White House, US President Donald Trump announced that America carried out "massive precision" strikes on Iran and warned the latter of further retaliation if peace was not achieved. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear programme.

Oman showcases investment ambitions at SPIEF 2025, advancing strategic investment ties with Russia

St. Petersburg, Russia: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, concluded its participation in the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reaffirming its commitment to global economic dialogue and cross-border investment engagement. Oman spotlighted its integrated business ecosystem and priority sectors under Oman Vision 2040, which aims to foster a resilient and diversified economy. SPIEF 2025 attracted approximately 20,000 participants from 140 countries, maintaining robust international engagement. The Forum featured more than 150 events, ranging from thematic panels and plenary sessions to business breakfasts and bilateral dialogues. High-profile attendees included Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, Bahraini royal Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile — alongside senior officials from nearly 50 countries, including Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the Central African Republic. Their presence underscored SPIEF's role as a pivotal platform for fostering multipolar economic cooperation. The Omani delegation was led by Her Excellency Ibtisam bint Ahmed Al Farooji, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Investment Promotion, who spearheaded a series of high-level meetings and sector-focused engagements. The delegation's program included participation in key forum sessions, bilateral meetings with institutional investors, and exploratory visits to major corporate pavilions. This year, Oman's focus centered on promoting investment in four high-potential sectors: luxury tourism, logistics, food security, and mining — each aligned with national efforts to position Oman as a competitive and future-ready investment destination. As part of its engagement, Oman organized a dedicated roundtable with leading Russian companies active in these sectors. The session provided a platform to present the Sultanate's competitive advantages, regulatory reforms, and infrastructure readiness, while facilitating direct dialogue with potential investors and strategic partners. 'Oman is focused on high-value investment, enabling enterprise through streamlined digital platforms, and scaling public-private partnerships—an area where we bring over two decades of institutional experience. Our business climate continues to strengthen, supported by policy clarity, legal reform, and competitive market access.' She highlighted Oman's upgraded credit rating by Standard & Poor's in 2024 as a signal of fiscal stability and investor confidence, adding that the Sultanate is actively translating these gains into tangible investment momentum across key sectors—from green hydrogen and advanced manufacturing to integrated tourism and logistics. Trade and economic cooperation between Oman and Russia continues to deepen. As of February 2024, the bilateral trade volume reached RO 30.9 million. Notably, Omani exports to Russia surged from RO 582,602 in 2022 to RO 3.35 million in 2023 — a remarkable 475% increase. Imports from Russia totaled RO 188.4 million, highlighting the scale and diversification of commercial ties between the two countries. Oman's participation in SPIEF 2025 aligns with its broader strategy to enhance investor outreach in key international markets, particularly in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. By leveraging global platforms such as SPIEF, Oman is actively cultivating a network of institutional investors and strategic partners to catalyse sustainable development and high-impact investment. As part of the official business program, Oman participated in the SPIEF session titled 'Greater Eurasia: Drivers for the Formation of an Integrated Investment Market.' Her Excellency joined global investment leaders to explore policy tools that can accelerate cross-border capital flows. Discussions addressed market integration, institutional readiness, and innovative investment instruments — themes that closely align with Oman's ongoing investment reform agenda.

Russia hails Oman's mediation in crucial Iran-US negotiations

Muscat: Russia's Foreign Ministry has reiterated its support for diplomacy over military action in resolving the Iranian nuclear issue. Speaking on the sidelines of the 9th Asia-Pacific Union meeting in Saint Petersburg, the Ministry's spokesperson emphasised that resuming negotiations between Iran and the United States, with mediation from the Sultanate of Oman, remains the only viable path to a peaceful resolution rather than through Israeli military strikes. The Russian official strongly criticised recent Israeli military actions, labelling them as counterproductive and destabilizing. She lauded Oman's balanced and persistent diplomatic efforts, describing them as crucial in bridging communication between Tehran and Washington.
