AMD's Client Segment Revenues Rise: Will It Be the Next Growth Driver?
Advanced Micro Devices AMD is benefiting from robust Client revenue, which soared 67.7% year over year to $2.294 billion, accounting for 30.8% of total revenues in the first quarter of 2025. AMD's latest Ryzen CPUs, particularly those based on the Zen 5 architecture, have seen strong demand, especially for gaming and high-performance desktops and laptops. The launch of new products like the Ryzen 9 9950 X3D helped set sellout records and boosted the client segment. The sales of higher-end products, including Ryzen processors for both desktop and mobile, led to higher average selling prices and contributed positively to revenues. The company also saw robust demand for its AI-enabled processors, including the Ryzen AI Max Plus and Ryzen AI 7 and 5 300 series, which set new standards for computing, graphics performance, and battery life. In 2025, AMD announced that its Ryzen AI PRO processors will power new Dell Pro devices, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing strategic collaboration between AMD and Dell. Speaking of ports, it's well connected too, featuring a couple of USB-A, USB-C, HDMI and a microSD card slot. There's also over 30% off the price, meaning you can get this Lenovo laptop for £189.99 on Amazon, saving yourself nearly £100. This isn't the most powerful laptop out there, but at this price you shouldn't expect to get the latest gaming machine. What this laptop will be good at is daily tasks like browsing, word processing and handling your emails. It's powered by an Intel Pentium chip with 4GB RAM - and 128GB of storage. The display is 15.6-inches on the diagonal, and because it's large, there's plenty of space for the keyboard and number pad, so you won't feel like the keyboard is cramped. Lenovo also does great keyboards on its laptops - I use one myself. If you don't think that the Intel laptop will have enough power, there's also a Ryzen 5 version that's also discounted to £339 on Amazon, saving over £210. The Ryzen 5 is much more powerful, so better suited to those who want to create content. If the Lenovo isn't what you're looking for, then the Acer 315 on Argos offers a price under £200 and is a Chromebook, so basic tasks might run a little smoother, especially if you're browsing and using Google Docs. The battery life of the IdeaPad 1 is around 10 hours so that will get you through the day without having to worry about finding a plug socket. The display on this 15.6-inch laptop offers a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), so it will have plenty of detail, although at this price it's a fairly basic display, so it's not as bright or as vibrant as you'll find on more expensive laptops. Shoppers on Amazon have praised the Lenovo IdeaPad, saying "Very good laptop for the price would recommend highly" and "As a basic laptop to use for Microsoft tools, such as Teams & Word, it's amazing!" Steam is adding screen reader support and other accessibility tools
Valve is introducing accessibility features for players with disabilities in its latest beta for Steam Big Picture Mode and SteamOS. The features — listed in full and explained here — include options to modify the Steam UI, like a high contrast mode, as well as a built-in screen reader for SteamOS. In its post, Valve describes the features as 'just the first accessibility features we're making available.' For now players on both Big Picture Mode and SteamOS will get: SteamOS devices (at this point, the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go S) can also find: A screen reader with adjustable pitch, volume, and reading rate, enabled and disabled either through settings or with a two-button shortcut A color filter that affects both the Steam UI and any games you're playing — you can choose between grayscale, inverted display brightness, or inverted display colors The features are available on a new Accessibility tab in the settings, seen below for SteamOS. Earlier this month Valve also started letting Steam users filter games by accessibility support — including some options similar to the ones above, as well as adjustable difficulty and speech-to-text or text-to-speech chat. It's encouraging players with disabilities to suggest more features in a discussion thread (a mono audio toggle is looking popular.) And for anyone who doesn't need these features, while I haven't been able to try the beta yet, it sounds like might all be getting a bare-bones universal Kurosawa mode.
