Lenovo IdeaPad laptop praised for everyday use and affordable price

Daily Record21 hours ago

This Windows laptop will make school or homework a breeze, with a tasty discount too
Choosing a new laptop can be tricky when there are so many out there. The first step is deciding what you're going to use it for and the second is often how much you want to spend. If you're looking for an affordable laptop for school or homework, or light computing, then this Lenovo IdeaPad is worth considering.
It runs Windows 11 and has a 15-inch display, so there's plenty of space to work, while it's not too heavy if you need to port it around with you. Speaking of ports, it's well connected too, featuring a couple of USB-A, USB-C, HDMI and a microSD card slot.
There's also over 30% off the price, meaning you can get this Lenovo laptop for £189.99 on Amazon, saving yourself nearly £100.
This isn't the most powerful laptop out there, but at this price you shouldn't expect to get the latest gaming machine. What this laptop will be good at is daily tasks like browsing, word processing and handling your emails. It's powered by an Intel Pentium chip with 4GB RAM - and 128GB of storage.
The display is 15.6-inches on the diagonal, and because it's large, there's plenty of space for the keyboard and number pad, so you won't feel like the keyboard is cramped. Lenovo also does great keyboards on its laptops - I use one myself.
If you don't think that the Intel laptop will have enough power, there's also a Ryzen 5 version that's also discounted to £339 on Amazon, saving over £210. The Ryzen 5 is much more powerful, so better suited to those who want to create content.
If the Lenovo isn't what you're looking for, then the Acer 315 on Argos offers a price under £200 and is a Chromebook, so basic tasks might run a little smoother, especially if you're browsing and using Google Docs.
The battery life of the IdeaPad 1 is around 10 hours so that will get you through the day without having to worry about finding a plug socket.
The display on this 15.6-inch laptop offers a full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), so it will have plenty of detail, although at this price it's a fairly basic display, so it's not as bright or as vibrant as you'll find on more expensive laptops.
Shoppers on Amazon have praised the Lenovo IdeaPad, saying "Very good laptop for the price would recommend highly" and "As a basic laptop to use for Microsoft tools, such as Teams & Word, it's amazing!"
Some buyers have called out the lack of power however, commenting "It is useless for anything other than basic web browsing" and "This laptop is very slow". If that's the case and something that worries you, then moving from the Intel Pentium version to the slightly more expensive Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 5 models might be worth considering.

‘Super effective' hands-free portable neck fan keeps you cool on your commute

Amazon has slashed 17% off the 'super effective' hands-free neck fan thats a godsend for keeping you cool and comfortable whilst working or commuting in the heatwave From sweating on your commute to overheating at your desk, the heatwave can be a nightmare to navigate for workers. Handheld fans are great for a quick fix but leave you with just one hand free, whilst portable fans can be a pain to carry around with you. So when we spotted the Kouric Neck Fan with Cooling Plate on Amazon, we knew it was an instant must-have for working in the summer. The clever neck fan blasts cool air around your face, neck and head without needing to constantly hold anything up, leaving you with both hands free to use your phone, carry your bags or even steady yourself on your commute. Ordinarily priced at £35.98, it's also currently on sale with 17% off, slashing the price to £29.98, making now the perfect time to get your hands on it. Plus Amazon Prime members can get it delivered the next day, so you don't need to spend another moment overheating on the train. There are some more budget-friendly options to pick from too if you'd rather. At Boots you can pick up the Menopause & Me Wearable Neck Fan priced at £15.99, or Argos has the £15 Menkind BeCool Bladeless Neck Fan in Black. The Kouric Neck Fan with Cooling Plate simply sits around the back of your neck, kind of how a travel pillow would, and has small fans built in all the way around it. These blast cool air directly onto your neck and face, with three different cooling temperatures to choose from which can cool you down to as low as 15 degrees, and there are five different speed settings too. It's fully portable so you can wear it on public transport, sitting at your desk, even walking around on holiday or at somewhere like Disneyland. It also reaches all the way around your face and neck so you get cool air from all angles, with 12 different colourways to choose from. There's an LED display on the Kouric Neck Fan with Cooling Plate too so you can keep an eye on things like battery levels and what settings you're on. It has a fast-charging USB charging port so you can have it ready to go in no time, and has between three and 19.5 hours battery life depending on which settings you're using. It's also got great reviews from Amazon shoppers too, with one saying: 'Mums menopause gift, my mum has been getting it really tough with hot flushes during menopause. I had googled to see what I could do to help her and neck fans was actually recommended. I can confirm she has been very happy and uses it while working from home when she feels one coming on. It's also great to use in general in the heat wave we had recently.' Another wrote: 'I was just looking for a neck fan and didn't even know what a cooling plate was, its super effective at cooling me down. Cannit wait to take this on holiday. Hands free comfort. Saves carrying a mini fan around.' Some were less impressed, with one saying: 'It does as it says on the box, and does it well. Generates much cold air. Battery life is dependent on which settings you found it a bit bulky and uncomfortable to wear. Takes around 3 hours to recharge.' Another simply said: 'Not silent.' However others loved it, writing: 'We got one of the cheap neck fans without the cooling plate, but this makes such a real difference. We grabbed another after testing our first.'
