BJP govt evicting tribals from their land, denying their rights: Cong

Bhopal: In a joint press conference, LOP Umang Singhar, former Union Minister Arun Yadav, and Congress Working Committee member Kamleshwar Patel stated that tribals in the state are being denied their rights to water, forests, and land by the BJP govt. The Congress functionaries said that, in gross injustice, tribals are being evicted from their land and suppressed with false allegations. The Congress cautioned that if the rights of tribals are not enforced within 15 days, the party will start a mass movement against the BJP govt. Calling the policies of the govt anti-tribal, the three senior leaders said that the BJP has deviated from the issues of development and is now engaging only in the politics of religion. LOP Umang Singhar alleged that the govt is depriving tribals of their traditional rights. "The land leases of thousands of tribal families were cancelled without any prior notice. It is clear from this action of the govt that it wants to snatch the rights of the tribals to water, forest, and land," LOP Singhar said. He also mentioned that in Madhya Pradesh, only five leases were given in Jhabua district so far, which shows that the govt's intention is not to give the tribals their rights but to drive them out of their homes and forests. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Thị trường có dấu hiệu suy thoái không? IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The LOP said that tribals talk about water, forest, and land, but the community is being divided into religions. "Tribals worship nature. Our identity is not with religion but with land and forest. The BJP RSS is going from village to village and dividing us because when BJP talks, it talks only about religion," Singhar alleged. "If the govt does not accept the tribals' demands for lease within 15 days, then a fierce movement will be launched. " Umang Singhar claimed that it was 17 years since the Forest Rights Act (2006) came into force, but the BJP govt has not yet given lakhs of tribal families their legal right to ownership of forest land. "More than eight lakh forest rights claims are still pending across the country. This shows that the govt failed miserably in the proper implementation of the Forest Rights Act 2006," Singhar said. He further argued that the Madhya Pradesh govt rejected more than 3 lakh claims out of 6.5 lakh forest rights claims made by tribals till 2024 without citing any clear reason. Quoting the Forest Rights Rules 2007, the LOP said that Rule 12A (6) states that it is mandatory for the govt to give reasons in writing for rejecting a claim. The Forest Rights Rules, 2007; Rule 12A says, "In the event of rejection or modification of a claim, the reasons for the same must be told in writing in the local language to the person concerned." The LOP alleged that due to the abundance of mineral wealth in the forests of Nepanagar, the govt wants to forcibly displace the tribals there, so that the way can be cleared for private companies. "The govt is falsely accusing the tribals of cutting the trees, while the truth is that they are protecting the forests and planting trees there. There are some other elements that are harming the forests, which the govt is ignoring," Singhar argued. Former Union Minister Arun Yadav said that the govt is removing tribals from the Nepanagar forests even though these tribals were engaged in forest protection. He accused that this is a trick of the govt because it wants to serve corporate interests by evicting the tribals from the forests. Giving the Mohan Yadav govt 15 days, the Congress leaders made it clear that if within this period the tribal society members do not get their rights back, then the Congress party will start a mass movement, and the fight for the rights of the tribals will be fought from the streets to the state assembly.

DDA carries out demolition drive near Loni

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) along with other civic agencies on Wednesday morning demolished more than two dozen dwelling units located along Loni road's carriageway in Gokalpur area near North East Delhi amid heavy police presence. The residents said that the settlement was established in the 1980s and authorities did not provide them with adequate advance notice. They claimed that they had been assured of more time, and alternative housing. Natto Devi, 40, who claims to have been born and brought up in the area, said that they had earlier been assured of alternative housing. 'We had gotten a notice a month ago too, but when we approached the area MP, he assured us that it would happen after six months, after we all have been rehoused. We had also approached the chief minister, who had assured us of relief but when we reached here, we found that our houses were broken,' said Devi. Many of the residents complained that the demolition process was not carried out properly. They stated that they were kicked out of their house before they could gather their belongings. 'They broke our closets and beds during the demolition. When we tried to re-enter our houses to take our things, the police hit us with Lathis,' said Devi. 'They have even taken the tarps we used to cover our houses,' said another resident. The residents said that they had also not been allotted the alternative housing they were promised. 'For three years, the governments have promised us facilities and houses, but nothing has been done,' said Suresh Singh, 60, another resident. 'Now the police are not letting us put up tents here either. Where do we go?' he added. When contacted, DDA did not respond to HT's queries for a comment The encroachments near the Loni roundabout had earlier also been cited by the Public Works Department to be a key hurdle in starting the work for initiating Loni underpass. PWD had initially announced that the underpass would be ready by December 2024. PWD in its official report in April had stated that an underpass is to be developed at the Loni roundabout and an administrative approval as well as expenditure sanction of ₹70 crore for the project was granted on September 30, 2022 but there are multiple hurdles along the alignment of the underpass such as cutting of trees and encroachments. Delhi has witnessed spate of demolition drives in the recent months at places like Taimoor Nagar, Madrasi Camp, Bhoomiheen camp in Kalkaji. Wazirpur, Burari and Ashok Vihar among other places. Former Delhi CM and LOP Atishi posted on X, 'Today, the BJP government is demolishing the houses of the poor with bulldozers all over Delhi. Met people in Tigdi-1 JJ cluster in Deoli and listened to their problems. Demolishing a house doesn't just mean snatching away a home, it means snatching away someone's dreams, their dignity, their rights. We stand firmly with the poor in this fight. This struggle will continue against the dictatorial government of BJP.' The bjp declined to comment on the allegations made by the AAP.

Cong MLAs meet Guv to demand removal of Vijay Shah

Bhopal: The Congress on Friday intensified its protest demanding the resignation of tribal welfare minister Vijay Shah after his indecent remarks on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi at a public meeting in Mhow on May 11. Dressed in black aprons, a group of 15 Congress MLAs led by LOP Umang Singhar on Friday morning met Governor Mangubhai Patel at the Raj Bhavan, and demanded Shah's expulsion from the state cabinet. After meeting the Governor and submitting their memorandum, the Congress MLAs sat in protest outside the Raj Bhavan premises. "We are on an indefinite sit-in protest outside the Raj Bhavan after meeting with the Governor," Singhar said. "We have submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding his Vijay Shah's resignation. It has been three days since the matter came to light, and he has not been removed from the cabinet. Therefore, we have taken to protesting in the streets," he said. Singhar said while BJP was taking out "tiranga yatras", its minister humiliated a woman army officer. "Despite FIR against the minister on orders of the high court, he continues as a minister of the govt," Singhar said. The Congress' protest outside Raj Bhavan did not last long. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch Bitcoin và Ethereum - Không cần ví! IC Markets BẮT ĐẦU NGAY Undo Soon the police arrested the slogan-shouting MLAs and LOP, shoved them into a police van and took them away. CM Mohan Yadav described the Congress' protest as drama. Speaking to reporters, CM Yadav said, "No matter how much drama the Congress does, they know that the matter is before the court. And no one is bigger than the court. They should know that there was a case against the LOP also, will they ask for his resignation? Congress has always humiliated the courts. In the past, when the Allahabad high court gave a verdict against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Congress imposed the Emergency on the whole country. " Yadav alleged, "After Allahabad High Court, the Supreme Court gave a judgment on triple talaq. Then the Congress changed the law from the Lok Sabha against that verdict." "This is the govt of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which has followed every instruction of the courts whether triple talaq or construction of the Ram Mandir. We honour and follow the directions of the courts. But Congress has the record of countering court orders. There was a court order against chief minister Siddaramaiah. What happened, did they remove Siddaramaiah? Kejriwal went to jail as chief minister, why didn't the Congress ask for his resignation?" the chief minister asked. He further argued, "It was the Prime Minister's decision, our govt's decision that while giving a befitting reply through our army and for the first time since independence, women have been shown to represent the army. This has been done by the BJP govt. Whatever the courts say will be implemented."

Revanth asks TGSRTC workers to withdraw strike

Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) workers to withdraw their proposal to go on strike from May 7 and discuss their issues with the transport minister. He assured that the state govt was committed to resolving their issues. He said the TGSRTC was just started to come back on track to make profits and a workers' strike would hamper the interests of the organisation and it was the responsibility of the workers to protect the organisation. "The state govt would spend the entire revenue of the TGSRTC on the corporation and the govt will not take a single rupee of the corporation. The union leaders should suggest how it should be spent. It is my duty to tell you the fact that the state govt has been facing financial problems. We have just now started to recover from the mess and may take one more year. I urge all of you, do not fall into the trap of the people who could not do anything for you for the past 10 years," Revanth Reddy said while speaking at the May Day celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi on Thursday. TGSRTC workers gave strike notices to the govt last month demanding the govt to resolve their issues including merger of the TGSRTC in the state govt which is pending for the past couple of years. The CM said the Congress govt has been taking measures for the welfare of the workers in the organsitions such as Singareni, TGSRTC, power and unorganised sectors. "The state govt had given bonus to the Singareni workers. Gig workers policy for unorganized workers will be introduced soon," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AI guru Andrew Ng recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around in 2025 Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo He claimed the previous govt discriminated against the workers and as many as 50 workers died during the TGSRTC strike during the BRS govt. "The state govt is ready to hold talks with the RTC workers on strike soon," the CM said. Revanth said that Telangana had witnessed financial destruction in the past 10 years with 8.29 crore debt burden on the Congress govt. "The previous rulers left 50,000 crore bills pending to contractors and 1.20 lakh crore in other departments. The BRS govt is also responsible for long pending dues of Sarpanches. Kaleshwaram project, which was taken up at a cost of rupees one lakh crore collapsed in just three years. Ministers and myself have been spending sleepless nights for the last 15 months to rectify the mistakes," he claimed. The chief minister asked the RTC workers to keep faith in him and he would stand by them. 'Make a Dalit as Leader of Opposition' Revanth asked BRS president and leader of the opposition (LOP) K Chandrasekhar Rao to step down from the position and make a Dalit as LOP. "KCR made a promise to make a Dalit as CM if the separate Telangana is created. Now at least he can make a Dalit as LOP," he said.

Diggy vows to shun podiums after row at Cong Gwalior rally

Bhopal: Former CM Digvijaya Singh on Monday declared he would never sit on a stage again after a squabble erupted among Congress office-bearers in Gwalior over seating arrangements on the podium. The incident occurred during the Congress' Samvidhan Bachao (Save Constitution) rally. Besides Digvijaya, the rally was attended by AICC state in-charge Harish Chaudhary, party state president Jitu Patwari, LOP Umang Singar and AICC social media chief Supriya Shrinate. Also on the dais were AICC co-in-charge Sanjay Dutt, CWC members Kamleshwar Patel and Omkar Markam, former Union minister Arun Yadav and others. However, a squabble ensued between local office-bearers over who would sit with the leaders on the podium. Following this, an irate Digvijaya said he would never sit on any podium again, and would sit with the crowds instead. When he must give a speech, then he may be called on the stage. While addressing the rally, Digvijaya said, "This is my prayer to the national general secretary, state Congress president, LOP and the honorable people on the dais. I pray and appeal to you to please end this fight over the stage. I will not sit on the Congress' or any other stage, I will sit down and will request that when the time comes for me to speak, then I be called. But end this fight over the podium. Those who bring us here get left behind while others occupy the dais. Keep this in mind." The Congress is holding "Samvidhan Bachao" rallies across the country. In Madhya Pradesh , the series of the party's "Save Constitution" rallies kicked off at Gwalior on Monday. The party will hold "Samvidhan Bachao" public meetings to spread awareness among people in the cities, districts and the assembly segments. Speaking at the rally in Gwalior, PCC chief Patwari said, "From the historic land of Gwalior, we are starting a new battle—it is not against the power, but against the thinking that wants to weaken the Constitution. Congress is not fighting just a political battle, but is standing to protect the Constitution, which gives rights to the poor, Dalits, tribals, minorities and women." AICC state party in-charge Chaudhary said, "The Constitution gives us the right to speak, live and contest elections. Today, every right of our citizens is under attack. This rally is not just a political one, but the beginning of social awareness." Shrinate highlighted the failures of BJP's governance and alleged that more than 30,000 govt posts are vacant so that SC, ST and OBC youth do not have to be given reservation. "Appointments are being made through contract and outsourcing. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP leaders torture tribals and Dalit youths are shot at," she alleged. LOP Singhar termed the rally a "citizen's movement". He said, "The Constitution gives you the right to equality, jobs and reservation. But BJP govts are violating your constitutional rights to benefit a few industrialists. More than 70 youth startups have shut down, lakhs of govt posts are vacant because reservations will have to be applied."
