What's that under construction on West Mason Street in Green Bay?
Construction crews started site work in late May on what will become the Green Bay area's 24th Kwik Trip this fall. The Green Bay City Council in May 2024 approved a conditional use permit to convert the site into a convenience store. The popular, La Crosse-based convenience store chain subsequently in August 2024 paid $1.6 million for 2.8 acres in the 1000 block of West Mason Street. The site's three former commercial buildings were demolished last year. Green Bay property records indicate the city on May 14 issued a building permit for the new Kwik Trip with an estimated project cost of $1.5 million. Kwik Trip expects to complete construction this fall and set a tentative opening date of Oct. 24. This is tentative, though, dependent on weather and construction schedules. The new store will be about 9,000 square feet and customers can access it from entrances on West Mason Street and Gross Avenue. The company originally requested three entrances, but removed the Gross Court entrance after neighbors expressed concerns about it. Kwik Trip plans to install extensive landscaping on the site, including stormwater management facilities. It does not appear site plans include a car wash at this time. The new Kwik Trip at 1027 W. Mason St. will be the popular convenience store chain's 24th location in Brown County. The chain's 23rd location in the region is set to open this summer at 1535 Sunset Beach Road, in Suamico. Clerk helps Michigan woman pick out $500,000 lottery ticket
Michigan resident Amanda Hughes said she bought a scratch-off lottery ticket suggested by a store clerk and scored a $500,000 prize. Photo courtesy of the Michigan Lottery June 9 (UPI) -- A Michigan woman took a store clerk's suggestion and bought a scratch-off lottery ticket that earned her a $500,000 prize. Amanda Hughes, 42, who lives in the unincorporated community of Gwinn in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, told Michigan Lottery officials she visited the Kwik Trip on M-553 in Marquette to buy a scratch-off ticket that turned out to be out of stock. "I don't play scratch off tickets a lot, but I do buy one every once in a while," Hughes said. "When I was at the store, I asked for the $20 Wild Time game, but they had sold out of it, so the clerk suggested 50X Wild Time." Hughes took the clerk's suggestion -- and discovered it was a lucky move. "When I scratched the ticket off and saw the prize of $500,000, I wasn't sure if it was real at first," she said. "I thought I must not have read the instructions correctly, so I reread them and then went back into the store to scan the ticket and have the clerk look at it. It was surreal when I realized I really had just won $500,000!" Hughes said her prize money will go toward buying a house and saving for her children. "I still can't believe this is real! This money is going to be life changing for my family," she said.

A new Kwik Trip coming to Green Bay on West Mason, construction underway
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Motorists traveling on West Mason Street may notice some construction happening between Oneida Street and 12th Avenue. It was confirmed that a new Kwik Trip store will occupy the lot in the 1000 block of West Mason Street. Kwik Trip tells Local 5 that construction started on May 26 and the tentative completion date is October 24. The completion date is weather dependent, Kwik Trip said. Noah's Ark Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells opens this weekend Officials say the store will have a carwash attached to it, and it will be a Gen 3 store. This means it will have roughly 9,100 square feet and have a 'modern look'. There is only one other store in the Green Bay area that is a Gen 3 store. The Kwik Trip on 2499 South Point Road in Ashwaubenon is the other Gen 3 store. The location used to be home to a complex with local businesses. .
