The Elden Ring movie may have its lead – and it's an up-and-coming Netflix star
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Elden Ring movie is slowly coming together. Recently, Alex Garland was tapped to direct and write the A24 project. Now, one up-and-coming Netflix star is being eyed as its lead. As per Deadline, Heartstopper's Kit Connor has had talks with Garland about starring in the upcoming video game movie. The pair recently collaborated on Garland's war film Warfare, with Connor appearing alongside Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, and Cosmo Jarvis. However, this casting isn't set in stone just yet. According to its sources, Deadline states: 'it is unknown where things stand in negotiations or if a formal offer has been offered.' Connor, meanwhile, is set to appear in a Heartstopper movie for Netflix. On why it's a film and not another season, co-star Joe Locke recently told The Playlist, "So, we realized that the only way to get it made this year is if we do a film because it's less time commitment, and well, we can still put in a lot of the same love and care into the characters, into finishing off the story." Ever since the Elden Ring movie was announced by Bandai Namco, there has been plenty of chatter online about castings and, perhaps more importantly, which figure it will focus on. Already, fans are keen to see Vyke – and not the Tarnished hero of the 2022 open-world title – claim the mantle of the movie's lead character, while others want Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance to step into the all-knowing shoes of Roundtable Hold leader Gideon. Speaking to The Guardian last year about the possibility of an Elden Ring movie, the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki indicated he was happy to step aside for the feature – as long as a "very strong partner" was found. "I don't see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example," Miyazaki said. "But I don't think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that's where a very strong partner would come into play. We'd have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we're trying to achieve." Now, it seems, that strong partner is in play and actors are marching on towards The Lands Between. Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin throws his support behind Elden Ring movie: "Alex Garland is a first rate director"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Producer and Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin has broken his silence on the Elden Ring movie and its choice of director in a new blog post. "Here's the latest about the ELDER RING [sic] movie that was announced a few days ago," Martin wrote on his site. "A24 is a kickass studio, and Alex Garland is a first rate director." While he didn't offer more information, his 'current mood' based on the blog post was "hopeful." Curiously, he also linked to a three-minute video from YouTuber Zayf the Scholar titled, 'Why the Elden Ring Movie WON'T SUCK - Director Reveals His TRUE Power Level'. So, there's that. For the un-Tarnished among you confused by George R.R. Martin's involvement in the Elden Ring movie, he famously constructed the 2022 game's lore and rich history, which director Hidetaka Miyazaki and developers FromSoftware built upon with a tale of Great Runes, Erdtrees, and Elden Rings as the player aims to take his place as the Elden Lord in The Lands Between. As of now, very little is known about the Elden Ring movie. Annihilation and Warfare director Alex Garland is helming the project, while Heartstopper actor Kit Connor is circling as lead. Beyond that, fans are hoping the big-screen adaptation will swerve the source material's focus on the player's Tarnished. Instead, their hopes are pinned on following the story of Vyke, a pivotal figure in the game's world, who ultimately stopped short of becoming the next Elden Lord – and was driven mad in the process. 'Woke' Rachel Zegler makes barbed comment about Broadway after shock Tony Awards 2025 snub and Snow White flop
Rachel Zegler made a barbed comment about Broadway as she shared a series of snaps in honor of the Tony Awards 2025 on Sunday. The Snow White star, 24, was snubbed for her Broadway debut in the revival of Romeo and Juliet in which she starred with Heartstopper's Kit Connor. Zegler shared a message for her fellow Broadway stars, adding that a turn on the Great White Way 'is not for the faint of heart.' 'I have the most respect for the people being honored tonight – doing anything, especially a 2-3 hour marathon such as a Broadway musical or play,' Rachel began. 'It is not for the faint of heart,' she explained. 'We are athletes in our own right and tonight is truly a celebration of all the hard work – both on stage and off – that goes on in these iconic spaces.' She added, 'I love my job so d*mn much.' Rachel missed out on a Best Actress nod, while Sadie Sink, Sarah Snook, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Laura Donnelly and Mia Farrow all earned nods. So far, Zegler is best known for the box office flop Snow White. Prior to its release, Snow White was mired in controversy due to comments from Zegler and the absence of the iconic song 'Someday My Prince Will Come.' In an effort to be more progressive, Disney also changed the dwarves to be called 'magical creatures.' Critics of the remake first jumped on Disney for the decision to cast Zegler in the role due to her Colombian ancestry. The original fairytale revealed that the princess is given her name because her skin is 'as white as snow.' At the time, Zegler said that the origin story had changed, and in Disney's new version the princess earns the name due to a snowstorm she survived as a child. She then came under fire for criticizing original animation when she called it 'dated' during a red carpet interview with Extra TV in 2022. She eventually walked back her comments and assured fans that the love story would be 'integral' to the remake's plot. Disney fans then expressed discontent at Zegler when she said she was 'scared' of the original version as a child and only watched it one time. Although the Disney remake has been widely considered a flop, Rachel has already lined up next role. She will be starring opposite Marisa Tomei, 60, of My Cousin Vinny fame, in her next movie role. In the upcoming comedy-drama She Gets It From Me, Zegler will play the daughter of the Tomei's wild, unruly and free-spirited character, according to the synopsis reported by Variety. She Gets It From Me 'follows Nicky (Zegler), whose engagement celebration turns into a search for her pill-popping, ex-punk rocker birth mother Charlotte (Tomei)', per the outlet. 'Together, the two embark on an anarchic mother-and-daughter journey to reconnect after being estranged.' The synopsis reads: 'YouTube is packed with tearful family reunions, but nobody films the messy aftermath.' Rachel was snubbed this week as Tony nominations were announced and she did not make the list for her role in the Broadway revival of Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet. Seen here October 24, 2024 The forthcoming film, directed by Julia von Heinz, is based on a true story. Many of Zegler's fans showed their support for the actress as they praised her for staying 'booked and busy.' The Snow White remake was heavily hyped up until its release, however, it has faced a string of controversies after Zegler's controversial comments about the original cartoon film.

George R.R. Martin Weighs in on the ELDEN RING Movie: 'Alex Garland Is a First Rate Director' — GeekTyrant
In a recent blog post, the Game of Thrones creator and co-architect of Elden Ring 's vast mythology, George R.R. Martin, offered his thoughts on the upcoming film adaptation, and on its newly announced director, Alex Garland: 'Here's the latest about the ELDER RING [sic] movie that was announced a few days ago. A24 is a kickass studio, and Alex Garland is a first rate director.' That's all he shared directly. No big lore drops or story teases. But Martin's 'current mood' at the end of the post? Simply… 'hopeful.' As for how Martin fits into the Elden Ring picture, he didn't write the game, but he did lay the foundation. Back in 2022, he crafted the world's backstory, its mythic conflicts, and that heavy, dense sense of fallen grandeur. From there, Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki and the team at FromSoftware built the playable experience that we all hate to enjoy, one filled with cryptic NPCs, grotesque monsters, and just enough misery to keep you emotionally invested and spiritually broken. So far, all we know about the film is that it's coming from A24, and Alex Garland is directing. It's also reported that Kit Connor ( Heartstopper, Warfare ) may lead the dark fantasy epic. No story details have been shared, but I think it would be a samrt move to tell the story of Vyke the Dragonspear. It a really strong story, and if you're not familiar with it, you can read all about it here. It's the kind of tragic story arc is tailor-made for Garland's storytelling style. Martin also embedded a video from YouTuber Zayf the Scholar titled 'Why the Elden Ring Movie WON'T SUCK – Director Reveals His TRUE Power Level.' That doesn't technically confirm anything, but Martin is obviously vibing with the vision. You can watch that video below.
