The Elden Ring movie may have its lead – and it's an up-and-coming Netflix star

Recently, Alex Garland was tapped to direct and write the A24 project. Now, one up-and-coming Netflix star is being eyed as its lead. As per Deadline, Heartstopper's Kit Connor has had talks with Garland about starring in the upcoming video game movie. The pair recently collaborated on Garland's war film Warfare, with Connor appearing alongside Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, and Cosmo Jarvis. However, this casting isn't set in stone just yet. According to its sources, Deadline states: 'it is unknown where things stand in negotiations or if a formal offer has been offered.' Connor, meanwhile, is set to appear in a Heartstopper movie for Netflix. On why it's a film and not another season, co-star Joe Locke recently told The Playlist, "So, we realized that the only way to get it made this year is if we do a film because it's less time commitment, and well, we can still put in a lot of the same love and care into the characters, into finishing off the story." Ever since the Elden Ring movie was announced by Bandai Namco, there has been plenty of chatter online about castings and, perhaps more importantly, which figure it will focus on. Already, fans are keen to see Vyke – and not the Tarnished hero of the 2022 open-world title – claim the mantle of the movie's lead character, while others want Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance to step into the all-knowing shoes of Roundtable Hold leader Gideon. Speaking to The Guardian last year about the possibility of an Elden Ring movie, the game's director Hidetaka Miyazaki indicated he was happy to step aside for the feature – as long as a "very strong partner" was found. "I don't see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example," Miyazaki said. "But I don't think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that's where a very strong partner would come into play. We'd have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we're trying to achieve." Now, it seems, that strong partner is in play and actors are marching on towards The Lands Between. Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin throws his support behind Elden Ring movie: "Alex Garland is a first rate director"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Producer and Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin has broken his silence on the Elden Ring movie and its choice of director in a new blog post. "Here's the latest about the ELDER RING [sic] movie that was announced a few days ago," Martin wrote on his site. "A24 is a kickass studio, and Alex Garland is a first rate director." While he didn't offer more information, his 'current mood' based on the blog post was "hopeful." Curiously, he also linked to a three-minute video from YouTuber Zayf the Scholar titled, 'Why the Elden Ring Movie WON'T SUCK - Director Reveals His TRUE Power Level'. So, there's that. For the un-Tarnished among you confused by George R.R. Martin's involvement in the Elden Ring movie, he famously constructed the 2022 game's lore and rich history, which director Hidetaka Miyazaki and developers FromSoftware built upon with a tale of Great Runes, Erdtrees, and Elden Rings as the player aims to take his place as the Elden Lord in The Lands Between. As of now, very little is known about the Elden Ring movie. Annihilation and Warfare director Alex Garland is helming the project, while Heartstopper actor Kit Connor is circling as lead. Beyond that, fans are hoping the big-screen adaptation will swerve the source material's focus on the player's Tarnished. Instead, their hopes are pinned on following the story of Vyke, a pivotal figure in the game's world, who ultimately stopped short of becoming the next Elden Lord – and was driven mad in the process. "It Is Grown Up More": Joe Locke Teases What Fans Can Expect From The "Heartstopper" Movie

Joe Locke has had arguably one of the biggest young careers in recent years. Joe's very first acting projects have been Netflix's Heartstopper, where he stars as Charlie Spring, and then he followed it up with Marvel's Agatha All Along, playing Wanda Maximoff's son, Billy. Related: This 17-Question IQ Test Will Reveal How Much Celebrity Knowledge You Have He recalled his first — of MANY — auditions for Marvel, with the first audition including reading the scene when Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) interrogates Billy in Episode 1. Joe also revealed that a lot of Heartstopper is actually improvised, saying, "There's a lot of montages and so, in the script it'll just be like, 'Nick and Charlie play in the snow.' A lot of it is improv. I am not the best at improv. I'm great at improv if I'm, like, not being so nice to someone because it's easier. But, like, Heartstopper improv is a lot of cushy, nice stuff, so Kit is far better at that than me, so he leads it often." He told us, "It is grown up more. But it's still Heartstopper. I think we're trying to really make it [as] cinematic as possible and really finish the story in a really nice way." And heck, we even had time to ask some questions not related to Joe's impeccable acting career so far, like who his first celebrity crush was.
