Kathy Griffin rejected lucrative offer to join The View

Kathy Griffin once rejected a $1.4 million offer to join The View. The 64-year-old comedy star has revealed that she was offered a spot on the TV talk-show in the mid-2000s - but the offer actually fell well short of what she was earning at the time. Speaking on her YouTube channel, Kathy explained: "They made me an offer and the offer was for $1.4 [million] and I am just going to be honest, I had to turn it down because at the time between doing My Life on the D-List and touring - I was making about $10 [million] a year." Kathy was caring for her parents at the time, too, and she was reluctant to "uproot [her] whole life" for the TV show. Despite this, Kathy respects the celebrities who have starred on The View over the years, acknowledging that they face some severe "blowback". She said: "I really respect those women for going on that show day in and day out because they know there's blowback. And by the way, to this day, The View is one of the most buzzworthy shows on television or anywhere." Meanwhile, Kathy previously defended her decision to use a private jet for her My Life on the PTSD List tour. The comedy star - who has battled lung cancer and an addiction to prescription drugs - suggested that her preferred mode of transport was a reward for years of hard work. She told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: 'I don't give a s***. After everything I've been through, I justify it. 'I don't want to say I don't care if I make money on this tour or not, but I have prioritised the unimaginable with my normal Midwest background. "I put in decades at the airport hotel, I put in decades at the cheapest, crappiest motel that the club put me in where there are bugs in the room. "I confess to having A-list travel, right? It's all my own money that I earned by myself. "I did not come from generational wealth. Nobody ever gave me a goddamn dime. And so this is what I'm doing."

Kathy Griffin reveals shock confrontation with Barbara Walters over turning down million dollar job offer

is opening up about a shocking confrontation with Barbara Walters when she was guest-hosting on The View. Walters created the daily talk show and was a fixture on the panel alongside Joy Behar, Meredith Viera, Star Jones and Debbie Matenopoulos when the show debuted in 1997. While Walters left the panel in 2014, she remained as an executive producer until her passing in December 2022 at 93. Since the original lineup, there have been a slew of guest hosts, one of whom was Griffin, who guest hosted from May 2007 to September 2007. She has said many times in her stand up comedy routines that she was 'banned' from The View, and now she's explaining why. Griffin, 64, filmed a new video for her YouTube page this week, where she revealed Walters was not pleased after Griffin turned down a permanent hosting spot. She began the video by calling Walters a 'bad-ass journalist' and added she, 'loved doing that show.' She said she co-hosted the show 'something like 27 times,' adding she was flying from Los Angeles to New York City each time. 'They pay you scale and stuff but they don't dress you and they don't pay for makeup outside the hair and makeup room and they're already so busy and over booked and all that stuff,' she added. 'So eventually I said to my agent "Okay tell them if they're going to offer me a permanent chair please tell them to just offer me the chair or not." But I keep flying out there and they're trying out new hosts so much that I'm like I'm done auditioning did I get the job or not?" She added, 'So they made me an offer and the offer was for $1.4 (million) and I am just going to be honest i had to turn it down, because at the time between doing My Life on the D-list and touring I was making about 10 a year.' 'So I had to turn down The view because I would have had to uproot my whole life. My mom was still alive and my dad might have still been alive actually and I didn't want to leave them and my mom and dad didn't want to get on airplanes anymore so there wasn't a situation where I could have brought them with me and it was a whole thing,' she added. Griffin continued, 'I remember when they offered me the job Barbara Walters said backstage one time before we were about to go out and do the live show, "They say we have chemistry i don't really see it but they say we do," and I loved that. I said "Of course we do Barbara people love when I give you s**t." And then she just roll her eyes.' The comedienne added that she waited until she had a private moment with Walters to tell her in person that she turned down the offer. 'It was important to me that I pull Barbara aside and I said, "I want you to know why I'm going to say no. It's not that I think I'm too good for the show, it's the opposite; the show is too good for me,"' she said. 'It was important to me that I pull Barbara aside and I said, "I want you to know why I'm going to say no. It's not that I think I'm too good for the show, it's the opposite; the show is too good for me,"' she said. 'I'm going to be honest, this is how much money I made last year. I will show you my tax returns. I don't want you to think I'm blowing smoke.'" While she cited a number of variables like moving costs and the home she owns in Los Angeles, in the end, Walters was not pleased. 'She did not like that one bit. She didn't care, they didn't up their offer by a penny. I think I might've said something like, "Can you meet me halfway?" And they didn't.' She claimed to be banned from the show but would return sporadically, including a 2009 appearance where she got into a spat with Elizabeth Hasselback, which she claimed got her 're-banned,' even though she did appear on a March 2024 episode as well.

Kathy Griffin Turned Down $1.4 Million Offer to Co-Host 'The View' and Barbara Walters 'Did Not Like That One Bit'

Kathy Griffin was offered a seat at The View table, but declined the offer The comedian recalled turning down the talk show chair because it would "uproot" her life in Los Angeles She said that Barbara Walters "did not like that one bit"Kathy Griffin was offered a seat at The View table - but turned it down. In a YouTube video shared to her channel on Tuesday, June 17, the comedian recalled being offered a cool $1.4 million to co-host the daytime talk show. Though Griffin, 64, declined the proposal, the late Barbara Walters apparently wasn't a fan of Griffin's decision. "I really respect those women for going on that show day in and day out because they know there's blowback," Griffin began, praising the show, "and by the way, to this day, The View is one of the most buzzworthy shows on television or anywhere." "People still get up in arms online talking about who said what on The View, so it's always been a high-stakes show." Griffin then spoke about co-hosting the show roughly 27 times before being offered a permanent spot in the mid-2000s. She had been flying from Los Angeles to New York for several appearances, and though she was getting paid, extras like wardrobe, hair and makeup weren't included. "Eventually I said to my agent, 'Okay, tell them if they're going to offer me a permanent chair, please tell them to just offer me the chair or not,' " Griffin recalled. After a certain point, while the talk show kept auditioning new potential hosts and still flying out Griffin numerous times, she asked whether or not she got the job. "So they made me an offer and the offer was for 1.4 [million dollars] and I am just going to be honest, I had to turn it down because at the time between doing [the reality show] My Life on the D-List and touring I was making about 10 [million dollars] a year." "I had to turn down The View because I would have had to uproot my whole life," added Griffin, adding that she was taking care of her parents. "I remember when they offered me the job, Barbara Walters said backstage one time before we were about to go out and do the live show, 'they say we have chemistry, I don't really see it but they say we do.' And I loved that. I said, 'Of course we do Barbara, people love when I give you s---.' And then she just rolled her eyes." Griffin recalled that while making her decision, she pulled Walters, who died in 2022 at 93, aside and said, "I want you to know why I'm going to say no. It's not that I think I'm too good for this show, it's the opposite: this show is too good for me." "I'm going to be honest, this is how much money I made last year. I will show you my tax returns. I don't want you to think I'm blowing smoke but between moving costs and I'm so entwined with my mom and dad. I have a house in Los Angeles, and it just isn't feasible for me to do, but I want you to hear it directly from me." "She did not like that one bit," Griffin recalled. "She didn't care. They didn't up their offer by a penny, I think I might have said something like, 'Can you meet me halfway? And they didn't.' But there's the real story," she concluded. Rosie O'Donnell wound up getting hired by The View in 2006, years after leaving her eponymous talk show. Read the original article on People

Don Lemon, Kathy Griffin agree 'something was off' about 2024 election, suggest election tampering

Former CNN host Don Lemon agreed with comedian Kathy Griffin on his show Tuesday that "something was off" with the 2024 election and that it might have been rigged by Republicans. At the end of "The Don Lemon Show" episode, Griffin brought up the idea as her "tin foil hat moment," acknowledging that she may upset a few "lefties" over the idea. "I'm Kathy Griffin and I do not think Trump won in a free and fair election," Griffin said. "I believe there was tampering. I don't know. I don't know if it was the Elon [Musk] connection. I don't know if it was just a few good old boys in the South who didn't do, you know, I mean what they accuse us of." KATHY GRIFFIN ACCUSES STEPHEN COLBERT OF 'BULLS-- AMBUSH' OVER INFAMOUS TRUMP SEVERED HEAD PHOTO Griffin insisted that her gut was telling her something happened with the election. While Lemon did not himself say the 2024 election won by President Donald Trump was rigged, he admitted that he didn't disagree with Griffin. "You're not far off," Lemon said. "I mean I won't say that I disagree with you… But I'm an evidence person. I'd like to see the evidence. I think something was off, and especially when someone said, 'oh, we've got this.' And, you know, how do you know that? How do we know we've got this? How do you know, or 'I don't need your vote' or anything like that. It's a little bit odd." "Right. 'This will be the last election. We won't have any elections after this,'" Griffin said. "'Vote for me, and you won't have to vote again anymore.' And also, you know, as you said, every accusation is a confession," Lemon said. Griffin's claim resembled one made by actress Rosie O'Donnell in March when she questioned the validity of Trump's win because of his relationship with Elon Musk. "I question why the first time in American history a president has won every swing state and is also best friends and his largest donor was a man who owns and runs the Internet," O'Donnell said. Former CNN star Don Lemon makes outrageous claims about Trump 2024 presidential victory

Former CNN host Don Lemon claimed 'something was off' in Donald Trump 's second presidential election victory, suggesting the now-president may have 'rigged' the election. Lemon's bold suggestion came during a Tuesday episode of his hit podcast, The Don Lemon Show, featuring comedian and provocateur Kathy Griffin. Griffin, 64, kicked off the controversial discussion about the 47th president's 2024 election victory suggesting Trump 'did not win in a free and fair election.' Before diving into her theory, the Emmy Award-winning actress prepped her comments by first asking if Lemon was ready for a 'tin foil hat' moment, to which he replied that he was. She then laid out her view, which included an Elon Musk aspect to it amid the tech CEO's war with Trump. 'Are you ready for a tin foil hat moment?' Griffin said. 'Yes,' Lemon, 59, replied. 'Okay, I'm just going to be bold and say this. And you know, you can take issue with this all you want,' she said. 'I do not think he won in a free and fair election.' After a dramatic pause from both of them, Griffin went on. 'Yeah, I said it. I'm Kathy Griffin and I do not think Trump won in a free and fair election,' she said. 'I believe there was tampering.' She then added that she didn't know any specifics about what may have been done, saying, 'I don't know if it was the Elon connection. I don't know if it was just a few good old boys in the South, and arguing that past claims of stolen elections by Trump and his supporters are evidence of their own guilt. 'I know I'll take heat for this and people are going to say I'm crazy,' Griffin continued. 'But I've been called crazy before, Don.' To her surprise, the former television host didn't push back. Instead, Lemon suggested she wasn't 'far off' and said he 'won't say he disagrees' with her shocking claim. 'I'd like to see the evidence,' Lemon added, before quickly qualifying, 'I think something was off.' Lemon then echoed one of Griffin's earlier points. 'As you said, every accusation is a confession' - a reference to past GOP claims of election fraud, without noting how similar claims from Trump and his allies were once widely condemned as threats to democracy. 'Vote for me and you won't have to vote again anymore. And also, um, you know, as you said, every accusation is a confession,' he said. Griffin wrapped the conversation with a wry prediction that she might face backlash. 'All right, well, let's leave our viewers with that, because we can't top that. I'm gonna get in trouble and I can't wait.' The candid conversation comes as the president and his 'first buddy' Musk air out their dirty laundry in a very public feud which has seen both men take to social media to criticize the other. In the past few days, Musk has grown increasingly critical of the 'big, beautiful bill' Republicans are trying to pass through Congress - arguing it reversed his work with DOGE - but on Thursday, he took aim at Trump himself. Trump took to Truth Social Thursday afternoon after first criticizing Musk in the Oval Office. 'Elon was "wearing thin," I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!' Trump wrote. The president then threatened to pull SpaceX and Tesla's government contracts. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!' Trump wrote. Musk then taunted Trump to act. 'This just gets better and better,' he wrote. 'Go ahead, make my day …' Trump's swipes came after Musk said the Republican would have lost the 2024 election had it not been for the world's richest man's help. President Donald Trump (left) and Elon Musk (right) took their spectacular spat online Thursday after Trump was asked in the Oval Office about Musk's recent criticism of Republicans' 'big, beautiful bill' 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,' Musk claimed. 'Such ingratitude,' the billionaire added on X. Musk had publicly endorsed Trump on the heels of the July 13th assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania and poured $290 million of his fortune on the Republican's campaign. The billionaire also joined Trump on the campaign trail when he returned to the site of the Butler shooting in early October, a month before Election Day. During the transition, Trump announced that Musk would run the newly created Department of Government Efficiency or 'DOGE,' allowing the businessman to take a chainsaw to alleged waste, fraud and abuse. Those efforts didn't play well with the American public, with Musk formally out last week. Now the 53-year-old South African-born billionaire is asserting that he has more staying power in US politics than the 78-year-old president.
