Kathy Griffin rejected lucrative offer to join The View

Perth Now13 hours ago

Kathy Griffin once rejected a $1.4 million offer to join The View.
The 64-year-old comedy star has revealed that she was offered a spot on the TV talk-show in the mid-2000s - but the offer actually fell well short of what she was earning at the time.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, Kathy explained: "They made me an offer and the offer was for $1.4 [million] and I am just going to be honest, I had to turn it down because at the time between doing My Life on the D-List and touring - I was making about $10 [million] a year."
Kathy was caring for her parents at the time, too, and she was reluctant to "uproot [her] whole life" for the TV show.
Despite this, Kathy respects the celebrities who have starred on The View over the years, acknowledging that they face some severe "blowback".
She said: "I really respect those women for going on that show day in and day out because they know there's blowback. And by the way, to this day, The View is one of the most buzzworthy shows on television or anywhere."
Meanwhile, Kathy previously defended her decision to use a private jet for her My Life on the PTSD List tour.
The comedy star - who has battled lung cancer and an addiction to prescription drugs - suggested that her preferred mode of transport was a reward for years of hard work.
She told the New York Post newspaper's Page Six column: 'I don't give a s***. After everything I've been through, I justify it.
'I don't want to say I don't care if I make money on this tour or not, but I have prioritised the unimaginable with my normal Midwest background.
"I put in decades at the airport hotel, I put in decades at the cheapest, crappiest motel that the club put me in where there are bugs in the room.
"I confess to having A-list travel, right? It's all my own money that I earned by myself.
"I did not come from generational wealth. Nobody ever gave me a goddamn dime. And so this is what I'm doing."

Sarah Jessica Parker reveals ‘unpleasant' part of playing Carrie on Sex and the City: ‘Sobbing'

Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. Sarah Jessica Parker 'wasn't prepared for public commentary' about her physical appearance when Sex and the City debuted in 1998. 'That was really unpleasant at times when people would have opinions — not about the work,' the actress, 60, told podcaster Alex Cooper on Wednesday's episode of Call Her Daddy. While Parker would 'sometimes' get frustrated with viewers' 'misunderstanding' of her character, Carrie Bradshaw, she said it was 'the personal stuff' that really got to her, reports Page Six. 'At that time, I thought I was a fairly confident person,' she shared, explaining that 'it really comes into question and is tested when you're filleted, in a way, when you're opened up.' Despite the pain it caused, Parker said, 'I know you know this: We're better for those kinds of experiences, but not all of us are good at it right away.' Parker appeared as a guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Picture: Supplied When Cooper, 30, argued, 'It doesn't mean it doesn't hurt,' Parker agreed, adding, 'Up to that point, there was no chatter about me. … There was just my work.' When asked point-blank about some of the 'harder comments' she had to hear, the Hocus Pocus star replied, 'I think just discussions of my physical person. Like, stuff that I couldn't change and wouldn't change and had never considered changing — even still after hearing something that was like, 'What? Somebody would say that?'' To Parker, the 'chatter' about her face and body 'didn't feel like it was actually a conversation.' 'I didn't feel like I could sit in a room and someone would say to me, 'You're really unattractive,'' she said. 'And then I could say, 'Wow. First of all, that's hard to hear, but second of all, why do you seem angry about it? Why do you feel it's necessary to say it, to comment?'' She played Carrie Bradshaw on the original series – and has reprised the role in And Just Like That. The mother of three, who has been married to actor Matthew Broderick since 1997, recalled one specific time when 'a magazine said something really mean' about how she looks. 'It was like a kick in the rubber parts,' she admitted. 'I was just like, 'Why is this a problem? Why is this deserving of your time and why do you seem to delight in saying it?'' Parker confessed that the remark, which she did not repeat, left her 'sobbing because it felt so purposeful.' She believed that was 'the only time [she] really cried about' negative comments about her physical appearance. The Emmy Award winner, who made sure to note that social media has changed the landscape of how the public shares its opinion, wondered whether her critics would 'say it to [her] face.' Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend was ‘blindsided' by his red carpet debut with Janell Shirtcliff

Don't miss out on the headlines from Hook Ups & Break Ups. Followed categories will be added to My News. Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend, Priya Jain, was 'blindsided' by his red carpet debut with Janell Shirtcliff, Page Six has exclusively learned. 'They never broke up,' a source told Page Six on Thursday. The actor, 52, brought Shirtcliff to Wednesday's Los Angeles premiere of his new series, Countdown, with a source claiming to Entertainment Tonight that 'the two have been in an on-and-off relationship for over three years and care deeply for each other.' However, Page Six is told it was the first time Jain, 27, had ever heard of the director, 41. Our source said Jain, who has been photographed with Dane multiple times, met him last summer and that they became 'exclusive' in November 2024 — right before he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He announced his diagnosis in April. According to our source, Jain was 'devastated by the diagnosis' but stood by the Grey's Anatomy star's side. Interestingly, ET's source claimed that 'Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him.' It is understood told that since Jain and Dane met, she has spent almost every night at his house, where she has tons of clothes. The source added that the actress has even spent time with Dane's kids — daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13 — whom he shares with Rebecca Gayheart. Gayheart, 53, has since clarified that she and her on-again, off-again husband are 'staying a family' and remain the 'best of friends.' Not only did Jain and Dane get matching star tattoos late last year, but the Euphoria star also gave her a tattoo with an at-home tattoo gun shortly after, it was claimed. The source added that the last time they saw each other was this past weekend, while the last time they were photographed together was mid-May. Reps for Dane, Jain and Shirtcliff did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment.
