Govt. to hold exhibition on Emergency on June 25
The Delhi government will organise an exhibition in Connaught Place's Central Park on June 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, Delhi's Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra said on Friday. 'This exhibition is being held to highlight the background of the Emergency and its impact on democracy,' said the Minister. The exhibition will commence at 10 a.m. and feature documents and photographs related to the period. 'During this period, the Constitution was sidelined, citizens' rights were violated, and press freedom was suppressed,' he added. Terming the Emergency as the 'darkest chapter' in India's history, Mr. Mishra said, 'It is essential for the new generation to be informed about what happened on June 25, 1975, and how the Constitution of India was undermined.' The 21-month Emergency from June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977 was declared by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. In a statement, the Delhi government said it will support a series of cultural and intellectual programmes, including seminars, art and photo exhibitions, to mark the occasion.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta holds review meeting for preparations for Kanwar Yatra 2025
New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta convened a high-level review meeting on Tuesday to discuss the preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra 2025, focusing on planning, arrangements, and facilities for the devotees during the yatra. In a post on X, the Delhi Chief Minister's Office (CMO) stated that the meeting was held with the focus to ensure a seamless and respectful experience for the lakhs of Shiv bhakts expected to participate. Gupta directed that every devotee should receive respect, facilities, and security, emphasising that the event is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity for service and dedication. 'Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta held a high-level review meeting today at the Delhi Secretariat regarding the preparations for Kanwar Yatra 2025. In the meeting, the planning, arrangements and facilities to be provided to the devotees of Kanwar camps to be set up in Delhi this year were discussed in detail,' the CMO stated. 'The Chief Minister directed that it should be ensured that every Shiv devotee gets respect, facilities and security. She said that Kanwar Yatra is not only a festival of faith but also an opportunity for service and dedication. The Delhi government will ensure its organisation with devotion, arrangements and sensitivity,' it added. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, and senior officials from relevant departments at the Delhi Secretariat. Following the meeting, the Delhi CM detailed the setup of Kanwar camps across Delhi, with a focus on improving the infrastructure and services compared to previous years under the AAP government. She noted that the camps are scheduled to operate from July until Sawan Shivratri. 'The government will pay special attention to the lakhs of Shiv bhakts who come to Delhi with Kanwar. They will be provided with facilities. The government will work towards eliminating the irregularities in the aid and arrangements that used to happen during the time of the previous governments. Kanwar camps will start from July and will continue till Shivratri,' she stated. Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, who was present at the meeting, elaborated on the government's commitment, saying, 'Lakhs of people take part in the Kanwar Yatra in Delhi, and the Chief Minister has decided that special preparations will be made to serve the Kanwariyas, and a grand Kanwar Yatra will be taken out in Delhi. This meeting was called for those special arrangements. The Chief Minister and the Cabinet Ministers are sitting with all the organisers of the Kanwar Seva Samiti, and a grand and beautiful Kanwar Yatra will be taken out in Delhi. We are all ready to serve every Kanwariya.' In the Kanwar Yatra procession, Kamwariyas collect water from a river and carry it hundreds of kilometres to offer it to the shrines of Lord Shiva. According to Hindu beliefs, Parshuram, a devotee of Shiva and Lord Vishnu's avatar, participated in the initial procession. Devotees across the country perform worship, fasting and pilgrimage dedicated to the Lord Shiva. (ANI)

Delhi govt to start evening buses for tourists to PM Museum, War Memorial
Tourism minister Kapil Mishra on Friday said the Delhi government is going to start AC electric bus services to ferry tourists from Pradhan Mantri Sanghrahalya to the National War Memorial on an evening tour. He said more such bus services are being planned for other tourist places in the Capital. 'We have planned to start evening tours by AC electric buses from the Prime Minister Museum to the National War Memorial. We will hire new nine-metre electric buses from the Delhi Transport Corporation for the purpose. The service is going to start soon,' Mishra told HT. The Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya at Teen Murti Bhavan is a tribute to all Prime Ministers of India. The museum was inaugurated in 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The National War Memorial at India Gate is a memorial to the valour and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation. It was inaugurated in 2019 by Modi. Mishra said the details of other tourist places which will be covered under this service are being worked out and will be finalised soon. The minister said the buses will have a coloured design to make them stand out. An official in the minister's office said that according to the fare plans discussed so far, the bus ride will cost ₹500 for adults and ₹300 for children aged between six and 12. There will be a tourist guide on-board who will inform visitors about the significance of these places. Fares are likely to be finalised soon, officials said. While presenting the 2025-26 budget, chief minister Rekha Gupta had announced that her government would develop a new tourist circuit to cover the National War Memorial, Kartavya Path and the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya.

Flyover connecting North Delhi and Ghaziabad: PWD to carry out feasibility study
To provide smooth connectivity between North Delhi and Ghaziabad, the Public Works Department (PWD) has proposed an integrated transit corridor development project. The department has invited bids to carry out a feasibility study for constructing a 6-km-long elevated corridor under this project, starting from Nanaksar Gurudwara T-Point in Northeast Delhi's Sonia Vihar Pusta Road to the Delhi-UP corridor near Tronica City. According to officials, the stretch currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (I&FC), but as the PWD is the expert agency executing roads and flyovers, the department will hire an agency to carry out the feasibility study. Currently, the 6-km-long stretch is plagued by encroachment by the roadside and traffic snarls caused by vehicles, e-rickshaws, and pedestrian footfall. 'It was a long-pending request from residents… development of an elevated corridor will ease traffic movement for commuters and residents… The stretch passes through a densely populated area, which also has a market… Also, there are trees on both sides of Pushta Road… a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) underground water pipeline also falls on the route… all of this will be taken into consideration during the study,' said officials. The DJB's Sonia Vihar treatment plant is located near the alignment of the proposed flyover. In April, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, along with Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, inspected the stretch and announced the project. Officials said it is likely to cost approximately Rs 500 crore.

Bakrid celebrations: what the Delhi Police's detailed advisory says on sacrifice locations, waste disposal
As Bakrid or Eid al-Adha is celebrated across the Capital on Saturday, authorities in Delhi have issued detailed advisories aimed at ensuring a peaceful and responsible celebration of the festival. Delhi Art, Culture and Language Minister Kapil Mishra took to social media on Friday to emphasise key directives, stating, 'We have sent a copy of the advisory to Delhi Police and have given clear instructions that cows and camels should not be sacrificed, sacrifices must only take place at designated slaughter houses, and no posts about the act of sacrifice should be made on social media. If this happens, immediate action will be taken.' The Delhi Police has also launched a public outreach and patrolling initiative across East Delhi. Abhishek Dhaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Delhi, highlighted the efforts on social media. Earlier, the Delhi Police shared a detailed advisory on Tuesday. It emphasised responsible celebration, compassion, and public order during Eid al-Adha, which is a symbol of sacrifice, unity, and devotion. Citizens were urged to follow strict guidelines: The police also conducted widespread vehicle checks on Friday night ahead of Bakrid celebrations on Saturday. Sanjay Kumar Jain, Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern Range, said on Friday, 'All police officials are on the field and are conducting the checks along with Delhi Traffic Police. We are ensuring that no criminal activity takes place at night.'
