Bakrid celebrations: what the Delhi Police's detailed advisory says on sacrifice locations, waste disposal
As Bakrid or Eid al-Adha is celebrated across the Capital on Saturday, authorities in Delhi have issued detailed advisories aimed at ensuring a peaceful and responsible celebration of the festival.
Delhi Art, Culture and Language Minister Kapil Mishra took to social media on Friday to emphasise key directives, stating, 'We have sent a copy of the advisory to Delhi Police and have given clear instructions that cows and camels should not be sacrificed, sacrifices must only take place at designated slaughter houses, and no posts about the act of sacrifice should be made on social media. If this happens, immediate action will be taken.'
The Delhi Police has also launched a public outreach and patrolling initiative across East Delhi. Abhishek Dhaniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Delhi, highlighted the efforts on social media.
Earlier, the Delhi Police shared a detailed advisory on Tuesday. It emphasised responsible celebration, compassion, and public order during Eid al-Adha, which is a symbol of sacrifice, unity, and devotion. Citizens were urged to follow strict guidelines:
The police also conducted widespread vehicle checks on Friday night ahead of Bakrid celebrations on Saturday. Sanjay Kumar Jain, Joint Commissioner of Police, Southern Range, said on Friday, 'All police officials are on the field and are conducting the checks along with Delhi Traffic Police. We are ensuring that no criminal activity takes place at night.'

Suspecting affair, man murders wife in Paharganj hotel
New Delhi: A 24-year-old woman was killed at a hotel in central Delhi's Paharganj allegedly on suspicion of an extramarital affair on Friday night. An inquiry revealed that it was the husband who called Uttar Pradesh Police, admitting to killing his wife. Delhi Police has arrested him. At 3am on Friday, police received a call from the manager of a hotel in Paharganj about a woman's body lying in one of its rooms. A police officer said the manager said he received a phone call from UP Police around 2.45am, asking him to check the hotel room. The manager found the woman lying dead on the bed and informed the sub-inspector from UP Police. The sub-inspector told the manager that the accused was with him. He also informed Delhi Police. The local police found that 24-year-old Gopal Sharma checked into the hotel at 6.35pm on Thursday along with Kirti Sharma as husband and wife. Around 9pm, he left the hotel alone on the pretext of bringing food from outside. However, he never returned. Gopal travelled to Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, where he called the emergency helpline number 112 and confessed to killing his wife. Delhi Police later arrested him and brought him back to the city for questioning. He again admitted to committing the crime and described how he strangled Kirti, who was originally from Uttarakhand, to death. An officer said a murder case was registered and investigation was underway. The body was sent for postmortem, and forensic teams were called in to collect evidence from the crime scene. Police are also verifying the couple's background and any prior history of conflict. Earlier this month, a 29-year-old woman was murdered inside another hotel in Paharganj. Police arrested a man who was in a relationship with the woman and accompanied her to the hotel. Preliminary investigation revealed that she was strangled with a drawstring. The arrested man claimed he suspected that she was in a relationship with someone else.

Saiyed family buried together on 9th day of tragedy
Ahmedabad: Hundreds from the Khanpur neighbourhood in the walled city joined the Saiyed family on Saturday afternoon to bid a final farewell to four of its members. They parted with the family on June 12 on their journey to England, promising to meet again for another festival celebration. The Saiyed family came to India from England and was returning with their daughter after celebrating the festival of Eid-ul-Adha with family members. All four — Inayat Ali Saiyed, his wife Nafeesabanu, daughter Taskin, and son Vaqi Ali — became victims of a tragic plane crash a couple of hours after family members in Ahmedabad went to the airport for a sendoff. The Saiyed family, consisting of six brothers who live together in one building in the Khanpur area, waited for nine days before all of them were identified after the DNA match, allowing them to bury their dear ones. Inayat's eldest brother, Badesaab Saiyed, said that three bodies were identified two days ago, but Nafeesabanu's DNA matched on Saturday. "It was a feeling of our family members that we should bury all four members together, and therefore we waited for two more days," he said after returning from the burial at the Musa Suhag graveyard. Inayat and his wife lived in Wembley for 19 years. Their son, Vaqi, shifted to England a few years ago after completing his schooling. Taskin joined her parents in the UK to begin a new chapter in her life. She completed her MBBS from the NHL Medical College in Ahmedabad. Her uncle said that she cleared the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) exam conducted by the General Medical Council and became eligible to practice medicine in England. "She planned to pursue her postgraduation in the UK only. But she was supposed to join a hospital as a doctor there after 15 days. That is why she joined her parents," he said.

Fake news on attack with weapons goes viral
Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district police were quick to clarify after a WhatsApp message spread regarding an alleged attack with lethal weapons. One of the individuals reportedly ran towards the complainant's scooter. However, the complainant stated that he did not see any sword or weapon in the person's hand. Sensing something suspicious, the complainant told his relative, who was riding the scooter, to speed away. They did not turn back and went directly to their house in Nandavar, where the complainant informed his father about the incident. SP Arun K said during the inquiry, the complainant clarified that he has no connection with the false news being circulated on WhatsApp regarding a "sword attack" and that he did not gather any crowd at the spot. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at Bantwal Rural police station under Section 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). As soon as the police received information, a police sub-inspector reached the scene and noticed that a few people gathered there. When questioned, the public said that during the Bakrid festival, action was taken to seize cattle being transported in Sajipanadu, yet no action was taken in the attempt to murder case that occurred the same week. The authorities are also examining whether there is any connection between the attempted murder and the seizure of cattle during Bakrid, police said.
