Southern Railway completes 100% automatic signalling on Golden Quadrilateral routes
CHENNAI: Southern Railway has become the first zone in Indian Railways to complete 100% Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) on Golden Quadrilateral/Golden Diagonal (GQ/GD) routes, covering a total of 275 km. This includes the vital Chennai–Renigunta (134 km) and Chennai–Arakkonam (141 km) corridors. The final stretch — Puttur to Pudi — was commissioned on June 15, completing the automation of the Chennai–Renigunta section. The stretch spans over 33 km and includes upgraded electronic interlocking at Tadaku station and modifications at Puttur, Pudi and Sri Venkata Perumal Rajupuram stations. Train No 17652 Kacheguda–Chengalpet Express (UP) and a BCN goods train (DN) were the first to run on the newly signalled corridor. Key upgrades include 19 automatic signals, 58 dual MSDAC detection points, 33 new track sections (UP and DN), and the installation of five Auto Location Huts (ALHs) for real-time monitoring. A manual level crossing at Tadaku was also converted to electric operation. The section now supports future migration to next-gen rail safety and traffic systems such as KAVACH, LTE-R, and Centralised Traffic Control (CTC). The project was jointly executed with Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL). With this upgrade, the corridor is expected to handle more trains, reduce delays and significantly enhance safety for both passengers and freight.

Farooq Abdullah takes ride in Kashmir's Vande Bharat train, says will boost tourism
Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and president of the ruling National Conference (NC), Dr Farooq Abdullah, said on Tuesday that the train service to Kashmir Valley will boost tourism and the local economy. Dr Farooq Abdullah said this after boarding the Vande Bharat train from Srinagar to Katra. He told reporters before boarding the train, 'I am very happy that I am travelling by this train to Katra today. It has been the biggest benefit for us.' He said that since the train service connects Kashmir with the rest of the country, it will boost tourism as well as the local economy. 'It is a reliable transport link for the people of the Valley. The road between Srinagar and Jammu gets closed sometimes, and the airlines start fleecing the people by jacking up the prices. With this train, people will be saved from that. This will also prove to be beneficial to the horticulture sector in Kashmir as the produce will reach the markets faster', he said. After reaching Katra, he could not hide his happiness and said, "I'm so happy that tears welled up in my eyes. Has that day really come when I can travel from Kashmir to the rest of India by train?... I want to congratulate all the workers and engineers who built the highest railway bridge in India...' He was accompanied by several party colleagues, who joined his journey from Srinagar to Katra town of Reasi district in Jammu division. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vande Bharat train service from Katra to Srinagar on June 6. The Vande Bharat train takes three hours to reach Katra from Srinagar and vice versa. The railway link also includes the Anji cable-stayed railway bridge, which is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge. The Vande Bharat train has been especially designed for the weather and topography of the region. It offers a modern and enhanced travel experience with features like fast acceleration, a high-speed operation of up to 160 km/hr, and a range of amenities. These include comfortable seating, mobile charging sockets, onboard catering and enhanced safety features. Safety and Security features include KAVACH signalling technology, CCTV cameras in all coaches, emergency push buttons, talk-back units, fire extinguishers, and aerosol-based fire detection and suppression systems. Fully sealed gangways, automatic plug doors, reclining and ergonomic seats, mobile charging sockets, bio-vacuum toilets, sensor-based water taps, and a passenger information system. Onboard Catering includes a Mini pantry with provisions for a hot case, bottle cooler, deep freezer, and hot water boiler. The train has a Special lavatory for Divyangjan (physically challenged) passengers, emergency openable windows, and disaster lights in case of emergencies. Ircon Stock Soars After Rs 898 Crore Project Boost

The stock went up even though the overall market was not doing very well. In May, Ircon got new projects worth over Rs 898 crore. These include work in railways, power, and industrial development. Some important projects are: A project worth Rs 187 crore to build a rural industrial park in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. A Rs 458.14 crore project for civil construction work at the Tato-I Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. A Rs 253.6 crore contract to install the KAVACH train safety system on 778 km of railway lines in the Bengaluru and Mysuru areas. Other railway-related company stocks also went up: RITES rose by 6.5% Texmaco Rail & Engineering went up 8% Titagarh Rail Systems increased by 4% HBL Power Systems gained over 3% Even though Ircon's earnings in the last quarter were not strong—its profit fell by 3.8% to Rs 246.8 crore, and its operating profit (EBITDA) dropped by 56.3%—investors are hopeful because of the new contracts and future spending on infrastructure. Analysts are still careful and have set an average target price of Rs 158, which is lower than the current price. But the stock's rise in the last three months, especially today's jump, shows that people trust Ircon's ability to handle big projects and grow in the future.

While Ircon reported a 3.8 percent year-on-year decline in Q4FY24 net profit to Rs 246.8 crore, and a sharp 56.3 percent fall in EBITDA, the new contracts and expected capex upcycle appear to have overshadowed near-term financial softness. Analysts have assigned a cautious outlook with an average target price of Rs 158, suggesting downside from current levels. However, the stock's rise over the past three months, bolstered by today's surge, indicates growing market confidence in its project execution capabilities and future growth prospects.
