Southern Railway completes 100% automatic signalling on Golden Quadrilateral routes
CHENNAI: Southern Railway has become the first zone in Indian Railways to complete 100% Automatic Block Signalling (ABS) on Golden Quadrilateral/Golden Diagonal (GQ/GD) routes, covering a total of 275 km.
This includes the vital Chennai–Renigunta (134 km) and Chennai–Arakkonam (141 km) corridors.
The final stretch — Puttur to Pudi — was commissioned on June 15, completing the automation of the Chennai–Renigunta section. The stretch spans over 33 km and includes upgraded electronic interlocking at Tadaku station and modifications at Puttur, Pudi and Sri Venkata Perumal Rajupuram stations.
Train No 17652 Kacheguda–Chengalpet Express (UP) and a BCN goods train (DN) were the first to run on the newly signalled corridor.
Key upgrades include 19 automatic signals, 58 dual MSDAC detection points, 33 new track sections (UP and DN), and the installation of five Auto Location Huts (ALHs) for real-time monitoring. A manual level crossing at Tadaku was also converted to electric operation.
The section now supports future migration to next-gen rail safety and traffic systems such as KAVACH, LTE-R, and Centralised Traffic Control (CTC). The project was jointly executed with Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL).
With this upgrade, the corridor is expected to handle more trains, reduce delays and significantly enhance safety for both passengers and freight.

Namo Bharat trains achieve 160 kph operational speed during successful rial-run
NCRTC has successfully conducted a full-length timetable trial run of Namo Bharat trains between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram, completing the journey in under an hour. Meerut Metro trains were also running simultaneously with Namo Bharat trains during the trials and the systems performed perfectly. This marks a significant operational milestone in the implementation of India's first Namo Bharat corridor, connecting Delhi, Ghaziabad, and the trial, Namo Bharat trains ran seamlessly at the maximum operational speed of 160 kmph across the entire 82-km stretch. The trains made stops at every station from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram and covered the entire distance in less than one hour, adhering to the planned schedule targeted by NCRTC. The advanced ETCS Level 3 Hybrid signalling system over LTE backbone deployed on the corridor, a global first, performed flawlessly, along with the Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) installed at every station. This successful run underscores system readiness and represents a firm step forward towards full-scale present, 55 km of the corridor with 11 stations is already operational for commuters. Trial runs, along with final finishing works, are progressing rapidly on the remaining sections i.e. 4.5 km between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and about 23 km between Meerut South and Modipuram in Meerut. advertisementThis milestone signifies a crucial advancement toward the full commissioning of the entire runs of the Meerut Metro are also underway on the stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram Depot. This is the first time in the country that local metro services will be provided on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat trains. Works on Sankar Vilas flyover to begin despite pending land issues
Guntur: Notwithstanding the pending legal issues with regard to land acquisition, the district administration has decided to kick-start the works on the prestigious Sankar Vilas flyover. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The R&B department has been given a go ahead by the district collector to launch the works from Monday. The first phase of the four-lane rail over bridge (ROB) will be launched from AC college junction (East constituency). The Union govt has granted Rs 98 crore to take up the long-pending flyover project almost eight months ago. Curiously, the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) could not complete land acquisition due to strong resistance from the owners of commercial properties on Brodipet main road. About 50 property owners approached the court and got stay orders on acquisition of their properties until payment of compensation under the land acquisition Act. However, GMC had been negotiating them to accept the transferable development rights (TDR) bonds as it did not have sufficient funds to give the compensation in cash. The GMC estimated that it would require at least Rs 50 crore to clear the compensation through land acquisition Act. While the property owners have been waiting for the relief, district administration gave them a shocker by deciding to launch the work. Sources said that this is a strategic attempt to push the property owners, who refused to budge and accept the TDR bonds as compensation, into a corner. Sources said that the main road on both the sides of existing ROB will be closed for vehicular movement from Monday and R&B department will start bringing down the existing flyover before laying the pillars for the new obe.

Namo Bharat trains zip across 82-km Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor in trial run
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has completed a successful timetable trial run of Namo Bharat trains across the entire 82-kilometre Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. During the trial run, the trains covered the distance from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in under an hour. According to NCRTC, the trains maintained the maximum operational speed of 160 kmph and stopped at every station. Officials said the trial adhered to the planned schedule and demonstrated system readiness for full-scale operations. It said all systems, including the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 3 Hybrid signalling deployed over an LTE backbone, and Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) at all stations, functioned without any issues. 'This marks an operational milestone for India's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS),' an NCRTC spokesperson said. 'With this successful trial, the corridor is moving closer to full commissioning.' The 23-km Meerut Metro section, which includes 13 stations, is being built on the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat trains. During the trial run, Meerut Metro trains also operated on the same tracks. Officials said this is the first instance in the country where a local metro is operating on the same infrastructure as a regional rapid system. The section includes 18 km of elevated and 5 km of underground alignments. At present, 55 km of the RRTS corridor — with 11 operational stations — is open to the public. Trial runs and final civil and systems works are progressing on the remaining 4.5 km stretch in Delhi (between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar), and the final 23 km in Meerut (between Meerut South and Modipuram). The Namo Bharat corridor, developed at a cost of over Rs 30,000 crore, is the first of several RRTS lines planned to connect parts of the National Capital Region. Once fully operational, the system is expected to reduce travel time and ease congestion between Delhi and nearby urban centres.
